Kasa forcefully grabbed his wife, his grip was iron, his breath reeking of alcohol as he muttered curses under his breath, she struggled against his grip— hitting her head against the wall in the heat of it all. A small shriek was all that left her lips.
Maybe she was getting acoustomed to the pain, who knew ...
Amara though small couldn't tolerate the sight of her mother in pain. She jumped to her feet
" Mama " She cried in fear, clucthing the sides of her mother's worn out gown. Her teary eyes looked up to see if her mother was okay.
Kasa wasn't interested in their well-being, he just wanted to get his hands on those money, and with those thoughts, he yanked her towards him reaching his hands into her bossom.
He knew she always hid it there, it was how women behaved, hiding money and small valuables in the bossom of their chest knowing no one would shamelessly reach into the bossom of a woman.
But Kasa was different, he was her husband and in his knowledge he owned everything of hers including her body, and with that thought he shamelessly reached into her bossom and fished out the money.
Behind closed doors, neighbors whispered but did nothing, the weight of their own struggles keeping them silent. No one wanted trouble—not even for a child's cry
Amara's heart pounded against her chest, every instinct screaming at her to run. But her mother's trembling figure kept her rooted, forcing her to fight back tears as she grabbed her father's legs from behind, pulling him so he would fall and let go off their mother.
Something she had never dared to do before, the thought of loosing her mother to the cold hands of death had spiked the courage in her. If she didn't do this her mother could die.
Kasa paused staring at his own daughter in shock, on the floor where he laid sprawled. She had grown so bold and daring now. He stood up his eyes burning with fury as he approached her with so much speed a drunk man shouldn't have.
" you see that— bad children ! " He huffed grabbing her by the hair before hurling her with so much strength against the wall.
Her mother who hadn't recovered from the hit, screamed helplessly watching her husband beat their daughter.
" You fool, let go off the poor child ! " A scruffy voice chided from outside their house, as the door was left ajar. Outside stood a mysterious man with two people behind him. He had seen everything that took place clearly and they could also see him clearly.
Kasa squinted, wondering who the hell had just ordered him around.
They were his family and he the head, however he treated them he wasn't to be questioned.
" And who the hell might you be ? " He glared his ego flaring up, he carelessly pushed aside his daughter before taking few steps to now stand at the entrance like he owned the whole village itself.
The man scoffed, he was slightly older than the drunk husband, but he obviously had no respect.
" Boys " He called, his tone grim. "Seize him " He ordered the men behind him and they moved, immediately going to do as told.
Kasa stumbled back, finally realizing the man was clothed in fine and rich materials.
' Is he a noble ? ' Kasa was now sweating, every ounce of drunkness fleeing his eyes, he was now sober. He wanted to run, but he knew he didn't have a chance against two sturdy men.
Falling to the ground he pleaded
" Forgive me, sire. I won't dare to question you again " His hands shaking as the men grabbed him.
" Please kind sire, spare my husband " His wife had crawled out to beg, her eyes welling up, much to the man's dismay. He thought she would gloat at the misfortune of the man who had dared to hit her but she did the opposite.
' How naive ' He clicked his tongue, before his eyes strayed to the crying boy by the corner, then to Amara who just glared back at him, much to his amusement, he liked her spirit despite in a bad shape she was still so fierce.
Amara who glared at the man, couldn't help but feel like the man came bearing ill intentions. No noble stepped into their village without a motive.
" What a filial wife you have—quiet a beauty i must say " His eyes had now returned to the woman, his gaze lingering a second too long. she stiffened under his gaze and her husband quietly seethed in jealousy.
Amara caught the flicker of something dark in the nobleman's eyes, and her chest tightened with unease.
The older man chuckled noticing this, he waved his hands and the men released Kasa, letting him rise to his feet, question in his eyes on who this noble was and why he was here.
The man could clearly see his curious gaze and he introduced himself
" They call me old man Jenkins, " he calmly spoke, with his hands behind his back like he owned the room.
He then flashed a deliberated wicked smile
" now, let's talk about the debt you have been so eager to avoid ".....
