Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

Raven's p.o.v

Sleeping in the same room as her was torture, a wound I wasn't sure I could heal from. But Kenny was ecstatic, his tail wagging within me.

I delayed going back, hiding from my problems rather than facing them. My wolf's emotions were three times more intense than others'. I wasn't an ordinary wolf; I never had been. I could enter that room and make mistakes I'd regret.

Nana's visit was unexpected. It wasn't her usual time of year, but news of my mate must have reached her. As a strict enforcer of tradition, she would never approve of us sharing a room or resisting the mate pull. I could only pray to the Moon Goddess that she wouldn't stay long.

After a while, I finally returned to the room. My mate was asleep, and Kenny purred at the sight of her. I resisted the urge to trace a finger across her smooth cheek.

Then the mindlink block opened. Diego, my beta, informed me of a rogue scent on our territory. I quickly dressed, waking her with the noise. When she asked what was wrong, I told her and insisted she go back to sleep. Kenny's protective instincts flared when she offered to help. I left with a strict warning for her to stay inside.

She seemed so fragile, so delicate, and I couldn't afford to see her hurt.

The rogues' scent grew stronger, filling the air with a threatening musk. Some pack members were already outside, poised for defense. I had mindlinked everyone, urging them to stay on high alert. This felt like an ambush—too many scents mingled together, signaling more than just one rogue lurking in the shadows.

The darkness blanketed the surroundings, with only the moon casting a faint, silvery glow across the ground, making it harder to gauge where the threat was coming from. Then, a loud snarl tore through the silence. A massive wolf emerged, its form obscured except for the gleam of its fierce, icy blue eyes. It was unmistakably an attack.

"Stay together!" I commanded, my voice firm as more rogues materialized from the undergrowth. Five colossal wolves stood before us, muscles tensed, fangs bared, each one snarling with bloodthirsty intent.

"Protect the children!" I shouted, rallying our fighters to action.

The wolves lunged, and chaos erupted as warriors, both men and women, sprang into the fray. Some of our strongest female fighters, seasoned and fierce, joined the battle, their movements swift and relentless as they tackled the rogues head-on. While a group of our members formed a protective barrier around the young and the elderly, keeping them safely out of reach, others clashed with the intruders, claws flashing and growls echoing into the night.

A fierce struggle ensued as we fought tooth and nail against the invaders. Each rogue was ruthless, but our warriors held their ground, protecting the vulnerable and pushing back against the relentless force that threatened our home.

Three rogue have been killed and more injured pack members who had shifted to their werewolf, now back to their human forms on the floor, wriggling in pain, I couldn't shift, at least not in the presence of my pack members, so I fought with sword,I killed another rogue, leaving me with the last wolf, the larger one of them.

He attacked me, he seemed to be the strongest among the rest. The rest of my pack members were already attending to the injured lot, so I was left to battle with him alone, my sword as my only weapon.

The wolf threw me off, jumping on me and scratching at my skin, the sword fell off my hand at the brutal punch, I was left at the mercy of the wolf, I had no other choice than to risk it and shift to my wolf form. Blood was already trinkling down from my hand.

Then a large white wolf, with a little color of brown on her neck, surface, throwing the rogue off me and facing it head on. I know that scent all too well to realize who that was.

The white wolf moved with grace, each step bold, her brown-marked neck standing out like a crown in the moonlight. She sprinted toward the rogue, powerful and determined. With one swift, calculated strike, her fangs latched onto the rogue's throat, delivering a fatal bite. The rogue's body convulsed before it fell lifeless.

I watched, torn between awe and frustration. Her courage was admirable, her defiance even more so. But anger simmered within me. She had ignored my warning, put herself in danger. Kenny was happy, filled with pride, but I could not shake my protective anger. She was mine to protect, and yet here she was, risking herself.

As her golden eyes met mine, fierce and fearless, I felt a mixture of relief and irritation. My own wounds throbbed, the healing slower than usual, a reminder of my vulnerability tonight. I fought against the instinct to pull her close, to shield her from harm. But she held my gaze, her stance steady, daring me to see her as an equal.

I growled, the irritation clear in my voice. Her gaze was strongly challenging, telling me without words that she would not be controlled, that she was more than capable of standing by my side.

I noticed she was about to shift into her wolf form but I wouldn't let that happen, the thought of the rest of the pack seeing her naked was daunting. I heard the pack members cheer from the background.

She had just won their trust…

I motioned for a wolf to bring a cloth, or material, anything to shield her nakedness and in seconds it was given to me.

"Don't you dare shift here, follow me" I ordered and left the field, walking to the secluded part of the pack and as I heard steps trailing behind me, I smiled to myself, she listened.
