Chapter 10 - The Ghost of the Past

[INT. JULIEN'S APARTMENT – EVENING]

The dim light in the living room blends with the flickering glow of a few candles. Julien and Thomas are enjoying a quiet evening, sitting side by side on the couch with a bowl of popcorn between them. The sound of an old black-and-white movie fills the room, but their laughter and comments manage to overpower it.

THOMAS

(laughing)

Why is everyone in this movie running in slow motion? It's supposed to be a suspense scene!

JULIEN

(amused)

Because that's how it was back then, Thomas. It's an art form to make a chase scene feel endless.

Julien's laughter suddenly fades when a sharp sound cuts through the air: the ringtone of his phone on the coffee table. He reaches for it and looks at the screen, his eyebrows furrowing slightly.

THOMAS

Is something wrong?

JULIEN

(hesitant)

It's… it's a notification on social media. A friend request.

Thomas leans over to glance at the screen.

THOMAS

(mocking smile)

Another spam or fake profile?

But Julien doesn't laugh. He remains still, his thumb hovering over the screen.

THOMAS

(serious)

Julien?

JULIEN

It's Adrien.

THOMAS

Adrien?

JULIEN

My ex. From high school.

Thomas straightens up, a new tension settling in his body.

THOMAS

And what does he want?

JULIEN

No idea.

Julien accepts the friend request, unable to resist his curiosity. Almost instantly, a message pops up:

"Hi, Julien. It's been a while. I came across your profile by chance and wanted to say hi. I hope you're doing well."

Julien reads the message aloud. Thomas crosses his arms, his gaze fixed on Julien.

THOMAS

And are you going to reply?

JULIEN

(sighing)

It's just a message.

Julien types a quick response and hits "send."

---

[INT. JULIEN'S APARTMENT – LATER]

After chatting briefly with Adrien, Julien sets his phone down on the table and tries to focus on the movie again. But Thomas is silent—too silent.

JULIEN

(hesitant)

Do you want to talk about it?

THOMAS

(speaking softly but firmly)

I don't know… Why is he resurfacing now?

JULIEN

(shrugging)

I have no idea, Thomas. Maybe he's just… curious.

THOMAS

Or maybe he wants more than that.

The silence between them grows, heavy and uncomfortable.

---

[INT. CAFÉ – THE NEXT DAY]

Julien sits at a table near the window, nervously fiddling with the spoon in his cappuccino. He has agreed to meet Adrien, driven by a curiosity he can't explain.

When the door opens, he spots him. Adrien, older but still as charismatic, walks toward him with a warm smile.

ADRIEN

Julien! It's so good to see you again.

They exchange a quick hug before sitting down.

ADRIEN

You haven't changed. Still the same smile…

JULIEN

(with a nervous laugh)

And you, still the same charm.

The conversation flows naturally, as if the years that had separated them had never existed. Adrien talks about his work, his travels, and Julien, despite himself, finds himself smiling at his jokes.

But a part of him remains guarded, aware of the complexity of this reunion.

---

[INT. JULIEN'S APARTMENT – EVENING]

When Julien returns home, he finds Thomas sitting on the couch with a book in his hand. He looks up when he hears the door.

THOMAS

Well?

Julien hesitates.

JULIEN

It was… nice. We talked. He told me about his life, his plans…

THOMAS

And how do you feel?

JULIEN

(frustrated)

I don't feel anything, Thomas. It was just a conversation.

Thomas stands up, arms crossed, his gaze piercing.

THOMAS

It was more than a conversation, Julien. I can see it in your eyes.

JULIEN

(sighing)

What do you want me to say? Yes, it felt good to see him again. But it doesn't change how I feel about you.

THOMAS

And what if he wants more?

The silence settles again. Julien steps closer to Thomas and places a hand on his arm.

JULIEN

Thomas, you're the one I love. Not Adrien. You.

Thomas looks away, still troubled.

---

[EXT. PARK – DAY]

A few days later, Julien receives another message from Adrien. This time, he invites him for a walk in a park. Julien agrees, thinking it would bring closure to their reunion.

But when he arrives, Adrien greets him with a serious expression.

ADRIEN

Julien, I need to tell you something.

JULIEN

What is it?

ADRIEN

Seeing you again has brought back feelings I thought I'd forgotten.

Julien takes a slight step back, caught off guard.

JULIEN

Adrien… I'm with someone.

ADRIEN

I know. And I don't want to complicate your life, but I had to be honest.

Julien remains silent, his heart heavy.

---

[INT. JULIEN'S APARTMENT – NIGHT]

Julien tells Thomas everything—the honesty of Adrien, his own doubts.

THOMAS

And now?

JULIEN

Now, I want us to move forward. You and me. Adrien belongs to the past, and that's where he should stay.

Thomas looks at Julien, searching his eyes for the truth. Finally, he sighs and nods.

THOMAS

Then let's do it. Together.

They embrace, united despite the shadows of the past.
