As Emily listened to the laughter, she felt a chill run down her spine. It was a cold, mirthless sound, and it seemed to be coming from all around her.
Max noticed her expression and stood up. "What's wrong?" he asked.
Emily hesitated before answering. "I heard something," she said. "A laughter. It sounded like it was coming from outside the room."
Max's expression turned serious. "Stay here," he said. "I'll go check it out."
As Max left the room, Emily was left alone with her thoughts. She couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched, and the laughter had only added to her unease.
After what felt like an eternity, Max returned to the room. His expression was grim.
"What did you find?" Emily asked.
Max hesitated before answering. "I didn't find anything," he said. "But I did find something strange."
Emily's curiosity was piqued. "What is it?" she asked.
Max pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket. "I found this on the floor outside the room," he said. "It looks like a hidden message."
Emily's eyes widened as she took the paper from Max. It was a cryptic message, but it seemed to point to an ancient cult that had been thought to be long extinct.
As Emily read the message, she felt a sense of unease. They were dealing with something much bigger than they had initially thought.
"We need to get out of here," Emily said, looking up at Max. "We need to tell someone about this."
Max nodded in agreement. "But who can we trust?" he asked.
As they pondered their next move, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that they were running out of time. They had to act fast, or risk being silenced forever.
