Voices.
The peace that wrapped around the packhouse was broken like glass very early in the morning. The maids had brought me something to eat —a very sumptuous meal last night, and for the first time in a long time, I slept like a baby on the soft bed.
I was just starting to get used to the quietness and ease of my new room when the sound of raised voices burst into my ears.
My eyes fluttered open and I stared into space. At first, I thought I was having a bad dream, but then the voices grew louder, and they seemed to come from somewhere in the Packhouse.
The voices grew louder and even angrier and I could hear the unmistakable tension that rose in the air.
What is the name of the moon goddess was going on?
I sat up on my bed and I listened ….
" I don't care about your responsibilities, Caden! I've been waiting for weeks for you to come see me as you promised but you never came!"
The voice that yelled was high-pitched, a female, and it was filled with frustration and so much hurt. The female, whoever she was, was yelling at Alpha Caden.
I rubbed my eyes sleepily and threw my legs down from the bed, it was so impossible to ignore the tension that was wrapped around and drifting in the air. Curious nudged me at my sides, and I knew I couldn't stay out in the room, not with all the yelling.
I slipped my feet into my new slippers and walked cautiously to the door, I pulled it open quietly and peeked out down the corridor. The voices were coming from somewhere downstairs and it was growing more intense by the second.
I couldn't stop myself as my feet moved out of the room, and I found my curious self stepping out into the corridor.
"So you think you can just ignore me? Do you think you can keep me in the dark? You just shut me out because of some lame responsibility excuse?"The voice yelled again, demanding and piercing the air.
I walked down the corridor and stood at the corner of the stairs, and I peeked; I saw them at this angle. Alpha Caden stood with his hands tucked arrogantly into the pocket of his trousers, his back straight and his shoulders were stiff as he looked away.
My eyes moved to a very beautiful lady with blonde hair which fell in waves over her slender shoulders. Her eyes were supposed to be pretty but they were fierce as they looked up at Alpha Caden.
"Ivy...I need some space for the meantime"Caden spoke up for the first time, "I have a lot of things to deal with and I hardly have time for anything aside from the matters of this pack"
Ivy scoffed, her eyes burning," Space? You must be kidding me. You're avoiding me for weeks, Caden, weeks! I waited for you, but the moon goddess knew what you were doing. "She folded her arms and pushed her hair away from her face," We are supposed to be closer now that our joining is approaching, but what do you do? You push me away?"
"I'm not pushing you away and neither am I ignoring you, Ivy. I just.."His voice trailed off tiredly and he sighed. He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration, and he bit his lips," I have something at hand, and I need to focus on it. The weight of this pack is on my—"
" Oh, please, "Ivy spat, cutting him off; her words were like venomous daggers, "So, in other words, I'm not important, right? After everything we've been through together, you think I'll just sit back and watch you discard me like some garbage?"
Caden sighed, he opened his mouth to speak, but Ivy cut him off again, and he looked away tiredly.
"You promised me that we would be together; you promised to love and cherish me, Caden! I saw a bright future together with you; you saw it too, but now you're acting like I've suddenly become invincible."She said and placed her hand on her face as she choked back a sob—it seemed like a pure pretense to me," Why are you acting like I mean nothing to you?"
"I never meant for it to be like this," he said, his voice quiet," I told you I would come see you; you don't need to make a scene like this; this is so uncultured. You need to give me some time to focus on other things first, I'm doing the best I can right now"
Ivy stared at him; she was breathing heavily now, and her chest was rising and falling with so much anger," The best you can? Really?" she asked and scoffed," Well, the best you can is certainly not good enough, Caden! I don't need all this right now, I need you, Caden, you!"
I bit my lip and thought of what to do; I figured out that it was best I let them be; it would be wise to just go back to my room and pretend as if nothing had happened, and that was exactly what I was going to do.
I took a step back, but as I tried moving back, my leg hit the wall, and I let out a silent curse—but I guess it wasn't silent at all, and I froze.
Both Caden's and the lady's eyes snapped up at me, and my eyes widened in fear; I swallowed.
The moon goddess help me!
The lady's expression shifted from being angry to a slash of surprise as her angry eyes fell on me, her eyes darkened as she glared at me as I stood still like a soldier who had stepped on a landmine.
"Who the hell are you?"She spat, her voice laced with venom and hostility.
