I am a demon, I love being evil, the moment I realised Lyra wasn't paying attention to me I wanted to bite her, but I decided to scheme instead.
"Ah, okay."
Using her unknowing agreement I can do whatever I like. So I lied to her and told her that she just agreed to marry me. I enjoyed the sheer amount of panic on her face, well why didn't you pay attention to me then? In the end, it worked for me anyway. I can get her out of this damn house and into my home. Now, I will have her by my side at all times.
When I learnt of the present era I understood the importance of courtship, in my era when you are arranged to marry, you marry and produce heirs right away. I like the idea of not having kids, I want to enjoy alone time with her for a while before any brat comes between us. This era's liberal views suit me well.
After I got Lyra to agree with me I started planning the grandest wedding. And for it to be the grandest I needed her side of the family present. I finally contacted the Norwood family and informed them to welcome my fiance. I wanted to make sure Lyra had a proper title and prestige so that no pesky elders could point fingers at her.
The moment I informed the elder of the Norwood family, I received a call from his daughter.
"Theodore Valois, to remind you again, I am Felicity, the heiress. I am calling to inform you that we cannot take Lyra back at this moment, we need more time so I recommend not rushing these things."
Hah, what a joke. I am well aware of what kind of a woman Felicity is and she didn't do a good job hiding it. She wanted to marry me and rebuild the alliance. Her emphasis on the word 'heiress' couldn't be clearer. Of course, I can understand being wary of someone who is trying to take your position away however, she isn't worthy of it, especially since the object of her disdain is my Lyra.
I've explicitly told her to stay away from me but she didn't seem to get the message. I don't care if she tried to attack me in any way, but if she tries something with Lyra I'll make sure to deliver her a slow painful death.
When Lyra came back I could see that she cried, her eyes were red and so was her nose.
I wanted to give her space but seeing her cry only caused me intense pain, I could feel her emotions. I wanted to comfort her, I was taught how to pleasure women but not console them. The only thing I could do was to kiss her poor swollen eyes. Her emotions overwhelmed her, she threw herself at me.
"So, when are we leaving?" I could hear her muffled voice, her face was completely buried in my chest, and she didn't want to let me go.
"Whenever you're ready, I would've given you more time but there are many eyes on me. I found you, but it's only a matter of time before my enemies do too."
She finally lifted her face, she looked at me with her bright brown eyes and nodded. Her tears were glistening and her eyelashes were clumped together from the tears. I hated that at this moment I wanted to fuck her hard. I took a deep breath. I won't fuck her when she cries, but I'll make sure she cries when I eventually fuck her.
My car was waiting for us downstairs, I didn't want anyone looking at her when she was like this. I picked her up, but she didn't object to it, she buried her face in my neck instead. Looks like she doesn't want anyone to look at her when she's like this either.
My car had tinted windows so she could be at ease. I could feel her reliance on me and that made me feel better.
She was quiet throughout the drive to my manor, she simply leaned on my shoulder and closed her eyes. I could feel her emotions calm down, she wasn't sad anymore, and she drifted into sleep.
Rows of servants lined up to greet their new Madam. I informed Henry to dismiss them for now. I didn't want anyone waking her up. I interrupted her sleep so I must take responsibility. Carrying her up to my bedroom I saw the servants talking in hushed tones. I narrowed my eyes at this. What gossip are they spreading?
I summoned Henry into my study and asked him about the situation.
"Master, Lady Felicity left not too long ago. She wanted to meet Miss Lyra but I informed her you weren't here."
She was here? Was she trying to proclaim herself as the Madam of the house again? I took a deep breath, any woman other than Lyra was nothing but a nuisance to me. I hated their coveting gazes when they laid eyes upon me even as a young boy.
Before my fiance wakes up I should deal with all the trouble.
The Norwood family residence wasn't far from here. All the families of the past resided in this area because it used to be the capital city. Once both factions retreated from the human world, we settled here.
"Theodore Valois, you're here." Pitch black hair and a soul that matches it. Felicity sounded like she awaited my arrival. It wasn't the first time she did something like this but now that I am responsible for Lyra I will make sure it's the last time.
"Cut the pleasantries, I am here for one thing only. To make sure Lyra gets her family name back and, receives the inheritance she is owed."
Felicity didn't hide her disdain, "She is not owed anything, Theodore. I am a Norwood, she isn't and will never be! I am the heiress, if you form the alliance again you have to marry me and only me. If she is your heart you can keep her as a mistress I don't care. But the one you WILL marry is me."
"I am sorry your family didn't give you the mental treatment you severely need. I blame your family for feeding into your delusions. What Lyra is owed she will get. You may follow the laws of the human world but it doesn't govern me. I do not mind killing you if you get in my way, then the only successor left will be Lyra. So either keep your life and give her the title she is owed or die losing everything you worked for."
Her crazy mother fed her delusions of grandeur about how one of the Norwoods would wed a Valois and restore the alliance. Once she caught wind of my awakening I've been dodging her relentless amount of requests.
These people removed themselves from the situation by casting out the cursed leader of theirs, and now they come begging for an alliance once they realised I was awake. Vampire hunters are truly disgusting. They are just as much of a monster as we Vampires are but they act like they have the higher moral ground.
After talking to the actual head of the Norwood family, Robert Norwood, I arranged for Lyra's debut to take place in a week. He insisted she stay with them until then but I shot that down as it came up. She wasn't going anywhere with them. While leaving Felicity bumped into me, thankfully she didn't strike up another conversation. She looked distraught but I didn't care. I wanted to leave this place as soon as I could.
"Theodore!" Lyra was all dressed up in a beautiful sundress. Just a few hours ago she was still unable to accept that this was happening so fast but now her attitude was different. She brightened up this otherwise gloomy manor. Standing on the stairs and looking down at me, it felt like a scene out of the classics.
"I am glad you are up and about Lyra Norwood." I raised my voice so she could hear.
"Norwood?" She asked in surprise. Right, I didn't tell her the name of the 'grand' family she came from.
"You are a Norwood now Lyra, the niece of the current head Robert Norwood. He will be arranging your debut ceremony soon."
She was not as excited as I expected her to be but her smile didn't diminish.
"When is the debut ceremony?"
"In a week. Henry will help you learn the rules and etiquette." She didn't what a debut ceremony is, maybe she already knows.
I am sure Lyra will do well. She has always been a fast learner, she earned a lot of praise from her teachers in school and college.
She nodded and headed into our room. Does she know that it was our room and not her room? As much as I want to surprise her right now, I think night time is more appropriate for me to do so. You cannot blame a demon for acting within his nature.
