Kieran's team had been on high alert since receiving the message from the Overseer. They knew that the enemy was still out there, waiting for its chance to strike.
And then, without warning, disaster struck.
Elara was walking down a deserted alleyway, her guard down, when suddenly she was ambushed by a group of Overseer agents.
"Elara, no!" Maya screamed, rushing to her friend's side.
But it was too late. Elara had been fatally wounded, and as Maya held her in her arms, she knew that her friend was slipping away.
"Kieran..." Elara whispered, her voice barely audible.
"I'm here, Elara," Kieran replied, his voice shaking with emotion.
"I'm sorry...I didn't..." Elara's voice trailed off, and she was gone.
Kieran's team was in shock, unable to believe that they had just lost one of their own.
But they knew they couldn't afford to grieve now. They had to keep moving, to keep fighting against the Overseer.
And so, with heavy hearts, they vowed to continue their mission, to make sure that Elara's sacrifice was not in vain.
