Chapter 6 - Black Serpent

The ground began to melt and freeze simultaneously in Trinity's presence. In response, the figure across from him casually stretched. "You know I don't use that name, right? Just call me Zero." Zero's voice kept its oppressive property despite his nonchalant tone.

Trinity smirked in response, unresponsive to the effect of Zero's voice, unlike Rozelle. "Fine. You deserve that much respect after all the havoc you've caused." Trinity's voice became hysterical as he spoke.

Finishing his stretches Zero stood up straight and brought his palm to his neck before cracking it. Keeping to a relaxed tone he spoke. "You're too weak to kill me as you are, you don't want to just talk things through?" Then they widened the distance with the flap of his two black and white gradient wings.

The base of the wings were covered in a golden coat, encasing one mystical eye each. Their slit pupils directed themselves at the fuming and laughing Trinity.

Trinity's distorted laughter caused the ground and air to tremble. After a few seconds, he calmed his laughter and spoke. "And? I loathe you! I hate you! And most importantly, after the war, there is no way you are at your most powerful!"

Instantly an inferno of scarlet engulfed the wasteland. Having obstructed Zero's vision a bolt of lightning flew through the fire. Sparks of electricity sparked off connecting with the ground as it forced the surrounding flames to swirl around it.

Unlike against Rozelle, the masked figure didn't disappear and instead gently moved to the side. As they did they flapped one of their wings in front of them, blocking Trinity's kick who manifested out of the lightning.

A shockwave blew the fires away turning them into a ring surrounding them instead. Zero's gloved hand reached out from behind his wing with a grasping motion. Instantly the other swung their arm up as they turned into embers. Spikes of earth rose from the ground piercing the air where Zero stood.

The fleeting embers ignited back into Trinity's form. He searched around with his eyes for Zero, who had disappeared. You won't be able to sneak behind me that easily. A smirk appeared on his face as a chilling gust froze the air behind him.

Assuming his opponent dodged, Trinity prepared a follow-up attack. Suddenly, his pupils contracted before he could turn around. He saw an expressionless mask not even an inch away from his face.

Trinity felt a sharp, invisible force press against him. Instantly, he turned into incorporeal flames, creating a gap where the force was before dispersing. Having seemingly teleported, Zero appeared above him and kicked the dispersing fire.

Trinity's figure reappeared as he plummeted, not allowing him to get kicked around he threw bolts of condensed flames in all directions preventing Zero from appearing there.

The moment he brushed against the ground he sank in as if it were a cushion. At the same time a dozen earthen spikes launched out of the ground. With a flap of their wings, Zero remained stationary in the air.

They snapped their fingers and the traveling spikes fell into cleanly cut pieces. Zero raised his hand while he looked down at Trinity. The sky rumbled and a bolt of bright lightning shot down colliding with a translucent umbrella above Zero before being deflected as its fragments struck the ground with a roar.

The ground submerging Trinity pushed him back up. Trinity looked up at Zero with a smile before suddenly frowning. The masked figure directed their translucent umbrella at him as it shifted the open side towards him. It was like an umbrella flipped inside out by the strong wind.

A lightning-like bolt sparked and reflected along the umbrella's panel before shooting off with a boom. Trinity swiftly swung his arm up, forcing a wall of earth to rise. The lightning collided with the earth shattering it.

His arm still raised Trinity clenched it into a fist. Fire, ice, and wind converged into an unstable air orb. With a flick of his wrist, Trinity made the orb turn into a compressed beam that traveled faster than sound. Zero remained unperturbed as the beam exploded in front of them and a large cloud of smoke surrounded them. With a wave of their hand, the smoke blew away, revealing a transparent five-winged butterfly. Three of its wings appeared to contain an element that made up the earlier beam.

The transparent butterfly flew into Zero's open palm and appeared to turn to dust, seeping into their hand. Then suddenly two giant slaps of floating earth smashed together around the masked figure seemingly crushing him.

Evidently unsatisfied with the uncertain result, Trinity created a dozen elementary converged orbs surrounding the square of earth. Each shot out a beam and moved, cutting the block of earth like a laser—frozen lines formed on the square before exploding with intense heat.

The square fractured before bursting into melting fragments of earth. A shockwave flew beyond the horizon blowing the nearby clouds away. Within the remains in the air, the expressionless masked Zero flapped his wings remaining unscathed.

Watching the winged figure wave coolly, Trinity's facial muscles twitched angrily. Scarlet flames engulfed his fists and froze over. The frozen fire cracked and crumbled revealing a pair of sinister gauntlets underneath.

They beckoned the ground as it rose, turning into a mountain. Trinity opened his arms as if tightly hugging the air. Wind condensed, spinning and intertwining with electric sparks. Then, with a pushing movement, he let it shoot out.

Dozens of electrified, sharp wind chared the air as they rapidly approached their target. Zero waved his arm, revealing a swarm of five-winged transparent butterflies, each colliding with a corresponding projectile and absorbing it.

The butterflies with now electrified and stormy wings branched out and dispersed, shooting out the electrified gales back at Trinity. Looking at the projectiles that were returning he raised one of his gauntlets. With an almost magnetic radiance, the projectiles changed their course and flowed into the gauntlet.

Sparks emitted from his skin before Trinity turned into a bolt. With a flash, he appeared behind his target and blocked the punch they threw. His body returned to his previous appearance beginning with his arms that he immediately used to throw a punch.

Zero crossed his wings, blocking Trinity's punch. His gauntlet trembled slightly before the air surrounding it turned cold, Zero's wings were covered in a layer of crystalline frost. The two verticle pupils embedded in the golden top of the wings turned their gaze towards Trinity.

In an instant, they turned green and black. Suddenly the slight body hairs on Trinity grew rapidly and sealed his movement. Trinity's expression turned solemn as his skin ignited burning the hairs restricting him.

He clicked his tongue noticing a translucent lance. The lance that floated in front of Zero's hand threw itself with a swing of their hands. It launched from behind their gradient wings piercing Trinity's abdomen.

Trinity frowned before kicking the air creating an ample distance between him and Zero. He then grabbed the lance and was about to pull it out. A grimace appeared on his face. Trinity recalled a memory, he could already imagine the smirk behind Zero's mask.

"Bloom." Instantly spikes appeared on the lance piercing through Trinity's hand. The rest of the spikes elongated and branched throughout his body. Spikes protruded across the entirety of Trinity's body before fading leaving him with countless bloodied holes.

A layer of frost spread across his body filling up all the gaps as Trinity let gravity pull him back to the ground. Watching him Zero contracted his wings and descended as well.

The two god-like figures landed on the ground, one with absolute silence and the other with a large tremor. Trinity gawked at the masked with fiery eyes, his skin constantly bursting into flames, sparks, wind, and ice in an attempt to turn incorporeal in vain.

He gathered the remaining elements into one gauntlet as the other dissolved into the first gauntlet. His gaze turned solemn as he prepared another attack.

"Caw! Caw!" Trinity raised his eyebrow in confusion and looked at Zero who showed no signs of moving.

A black blur appeared in the corner of Trinity's eye, his pupils contracted in response. It was the black raven Albion had turned into, its feathers covered in layers of thin deep red veins.

With a few flaps of its wings, it pierced into Trinity and burrowed into his back. Red crimson veins emerged and spread to cover Trinity. In that instant, he glared at Zero with rage as the crimson in his eyes dimmed.

His amber hair turned chestnut colored and his gauntlet dispersed into smoke. "I'm not going to kill you, you wouldn't die anyway." Trinity who expected Zero to kill him on the spot twitched in anger.

Ignoring him Zero continued. "Instead, I'll let the gods of this world face you." When he finished Zero waved his arm and countless five-winged butterflies swarmed Trinity. Reining in his anger he read in between the lines.

Trinity's angered face subsided and his lips curled up, forming a solemn yet sinister smile. "Alright, Deal." As the fading words escaped his mouth transparent chains flew out of the five-winged butterflies restraining Trinity.

His eyes glazed over and Rozelle remained hanging in the air out cold. Confirming that Trinity's presence vanished Zero walked closer to Roze.

They stretched out their hand and the bloodied gaps on Rozelle's body squirmed silently together, closing them. Then, a black tinge appeared in the blood covering his bare body. Slowly, it spread, turning all the blood black as it began to wriggle and take shape like a tattoo.

Black lines formed on his skin, forming a coiling black serpent. Its tail began at the edge of his eye, and its mouth ended on his arm. Its mouth was wide, threatening to consume the symbol on the back of his hand.

A triangle made of six separate components, underneath it were two wings of a black raven with slight veins spreading out of it. Zero watched silently before the symbols and the serpent seeped into Rozelle's skin and hid themselves.

He adjusted his glove and released Roze from his transparent chains, catching him by the neck before he fell over. With the snap of their fingers, a ripple spread through the air forming a transparent portal to a world of white.

Zero threw Rozelle through the portal, ripples spread along it as if it was a water surface that had been disturbed. The masked figure turned to look in the direction Rozelle had come from and saw the ivory and crimson forest.
