Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Silent War

Days turned into weeks as Tang Xiu immersed himself in his training with Xu Liang. Each lesson was harder than the last, but it also brought him closer to the power he sought. The ancient martial techniques he was learning were transforming his body, refining his senses, and unlocking hidden potential within him. His mind was sharp, his reactions faster, and his understanding of martial arts had deepened.

But with every advancement, Tang Xiu could feel the weight of his mission pressing down on him. The Dragon's Fang clan was not just a group of powerful martial artists—it was a sprawling network, with influence that reached into every corner of the city. To defeat them would not just require strength; it would require patience, cunning, and careful planning.

One evening, as Tang Xiu trained in a secluded area outside the city, Xu Liang approached him with a serious look.

"We've got a problem," Xu Liang said, his tone grave.

Tang Xiu stopped mid-motion, his senses immediately alert. "What's happened?"

Xu Liang motioned for him to follow. "Come with me. I'll explain on the way."

They walked quickly through the dim streets, their footsteps the only sound in the quiet night. Xu Liang spoke as they moved, his voice low.

"The Dragon's Fang is aware of us. We've been careful, but they've caught wind of our plans. They've already begun making their moves, trying to silence anyone who could threaten their control."

Tang Xiu's expression hardened. "How do they know?"

Xu Liang's lips tightened. "There's a traitor in our midst. Someone within our circle has been feeding them information. We don't know who, but we need to find out fast before they take further action."

Tang Xiu's fists clenched. The thought of someone betraying him—and Xu Liang—was infuriating. "What should we do?"

Xu Liang's gaze was cold and calculating. "We'll need to act quickly. We can't confront the entire Dragon's Fang clan head-on just yet. But we can disrupt their operations. If we strike at their key players, we can force them to reveal themselves. We need to be swift and precise."

Tang Xiu nodded. "Let's do it."

The first target was a key figure in the Dragon's Fang clan—a man named Bai Zhen, a ruthless enforcer who had control over several underground operations in the city. Xu Liang had gathered intel on Bai Zhen's movements, and they knew he would be attending a private gathering in a remote area on the outskirts of town.

"It's a perfect opportunity," Xu Liang explained as they made their way to the meeting spot. "Bai Zhen is a brutal man, and his influence over the clan's business is unmatched. If we eliminate him, the Dragon's Fang will lose a significant piece of their operation."

The two of them arrived at the location just as nightfall covered the city. The area was surrounded by trees, the buildings old and decaying. The gathering was being held in an abandoned warehouse, and there were guards posted outside.

Tang Xiu surveyed the scene, his mind working through the possible scenarios. "We'll need to take out the guards quietly. Too much noise will alert the others."

Xu Liang nodded. "Agreed. Follow my lead."

Tang Xiu and Xu Liang moved like shadows, blending into the darkness as they approached the warehouse. The guards outside were no match for their stealth and speed. One by one, they silently incapacitated them, leaving no trace of their presence.

Once the area was clear, they crept inside the building. The interior was dimly lit, with a few tables and chairs scattered around. Bai Zhen and several of his men were sitting around, talking quietly among themselves.

Tang Xiu's eyes narrowed. "Let's move quickly," he whispered.

Without another word, the two of them advanced. Xu Liang took the left side of the room, while Tang Xiu moved to the right. In an instant, they were upon the first set of guards. Tang Xiu's movements were fluid, his strikes precise and devastating. He disabled two men before they even had time to react.

The rest of Bai Zhen's group didn't have the chance to fight back. Xu Liang was just as fast, his actions lethal and controlled. Within moments, the room fell silent, save for the sound of Bai Zhen's panicked breath.

Bai Zhen, realizing something was wrong, quickly stood up and pulled out a concealed dagger. "Who dares?" he hissed.

Tang Xiu stepped forward, his gaze icy. "I dare."

Bai Zhen froze when he saw Tang Xiu. "You…" His eyes widened in recognition. "You're the one they've been talking about. The new blood who thinks he can challenge the Dragon's Fang."

Tang Xiu didn't respond. With a swift movement, he disarmed Bai Zhen, sending the dagger flying across the room. "Your time is up."

Bai Zhen, now vulnerable, staggered back against the wall. "You don't understand. You can't defeat us. The Dragon's Fang controls everything. Even if you kill me, there will be others. Stronger than you."

Tang Xiu stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "I don't need to defeat all of you. Just enough to break your hold."

Xu Liang approached, his eyes hard. "There's more to the Dragon's Fang than you think, Bai Zhen. We know about the traitor in our ranks. And we're going to find him."

Bai Zhen's face twisted with fear. "What do you mean? Who's the traitor?"

But Xu Liang was already walking away. "You'll find out soon enough. For now, enjoy your last moments."

Tang Xiu gave one final glance at the fallen man before turning to leave. They had dealt a significant blow to the Dragon's Fang, but the bigger battle was yet to come.

As they left the warehouse, Tang Xiu's mind was racing. The Dragon's Fang had many enemies, but their own betrayal was a weapon they couldn't afford to ignore. Someone inside their ranks had been working against them, feeding information to their enemies.

The traitor was the real target now.

Xu Liang spoke as they made their way back to their hideout. "This is only the beginning, Tang Xiu. We've made our move, but they'll retaliate soon. We need to be ready."

Tang Xiu's eyes darkened. "I'll be ready. The traitor will lead us to the heart of their operation."

As the night grew colder, Tang Xiu knew one thing for sure: this silent war was far from over. But he was no longer a novice—he was becoming a master of the game.

Would you like to explore the upcoming confrontation with the traitor, or focus on the next phase of Tang Xiu's rise to power?
