Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

The moon loomed large in the night sky, casting its silver glow over the dense, mysterious forest. The crisp air carried the faint scent of pine and the haunting call of distant wolves. Beneath the towering trees, Serena Ryder moved carefully, her boots crunching softly against the frosty ground. She had always felt a strange connection to these woods, as if their ancient secrets called to her in a language only she could hear.

Silverwood was a town steeped in eerie legends about the forest stories of wolves that weren't ordinary, of glowing eyes that hinted at something more. Serena had never paid much attention to these tales, dismissing them as fanciful myths. But recently, her dreams had been haunted by the image of a golden-eyed wolf. Its presence unsettled her, yet it also felt oddly familiar.

As Serena ventured deeper into the woods, an uneasy silence surrounded her, broken only by the sound of a low growl. She froze, scanning the shadows, her breath misting in the cold air. A massive black wolf emerged from the darkness, its amber eyes locking onto hers. Fear gripped her, but she couldn't look away. The wolf's gaze held an uncanny intelligence, almost as if it understood her.

"Hello?" she called out, her voice trembling.

The wolf made no move to attack but stepped closer, deliberate and calm. Serena, too frightened to run yet strangely compelled to stay, whispered softly, "I don't mean any harm."

The wolf tilted its head, studying her, before retreating into the shadows. Without thinking, Serena followed. She felt drawn to it, her curiosity outweighing her fear. The wolf led her to a small clearing illuminated by moonlight, where something incredible happened.

Before her astonished eyes, the wolf began to change. Its body shifted and twisted, fur fading as bones reformed. In moments, the creature was gone, replaced by a man. He was tall, broad-shouldered, with the same piercing amber eyes. His dark hair was tousled, and his wary expression hinted at secrets Serena couldn't begin to fathom.

"You shouldn't be here," he said, his deep voice edged with warning.

Serena's breath hitched. "What… what are you?"

"Dangerous," he replied, his gaze never wavering.

Their tense exchange was interrupted by distant howls, growing louder with each second. The man's expression shifted to urgency. "You need to leave. Now."

But Serena stood firm, her curiosity refusing to let her back away. "Not until you tell me what's going on."

He hesitated, clearly torn. "If you stay, you might regret it."

The howls drew closer, sending chills down Serena's spine. She knew she had stumbled into something far beyond her understanding. But even as danger loomed, she felt certain her life was about to change forever.
