Chapter 1 - 01. VIKRAM RATHORE

"What's up, everyone! Vikram here, with another game..." With a pause, the youth closed in on the camera and did his signature brow raise. "Now guys, this game is something... well, let's say not so famous."

"The dev of the game is just a new guy, and I'm playing his first-ever game!" Vikram redirected his gaze toward his PC and started playing the game.

"Now listen guys. This game had been sent directly to my mail, so it's..." He paused and looked at the camera with intended pause, and continued. "It's... I don't know. Let's just stop yapping and play the game already."

Vikram was a YouTuber, who built up a surprisingly 10 Million subscribers within 5 years. He was the fastest-growing YouTube channel in the entire platform. It brought its own disadvantages and advantages. He was an Indian, that brought multiple criticisms alone.

But Vikram thrived on that.

Narcissistic to the core, his motto was any kind of attention was good. Such an attitude, often the demise of many, surprisingly didn't apply to Vikram. He was a minor celebrity on Earth, recognized globally, particularly by the gaming community in India. His fame wasn't solely rooted in gaming skills but thrived on his arrogance, a trait that would typically ruin a celebrity.

Yet, Vikram, with his terminal illness, managed to escape the repercussions of his arrogance. It was also the reason why he had so many subscribers. Doctors had said he wouldn't live that much longer, and there was no cure.

It was public knowledge, and Vikram had made it his life goal to make the biggest YouTube channel before he died.

If that were it, he wouldn't have reached where he was now. It was a mixture of knowing when he should display arrogance and when he should be funny that he had amassed a gigantic following of 10 million.

The disease he detested ironically granted him immunity, like a free-from-jail card, allowing him to show arrogance more than what was permissible.

Despite having no hope of enjoying the fame that he got for a long time, Vikram garnered public adoration through gaming. His narrative, a tragic tale of an orphan battling a menacing sickness, resonated with many.

His channel is about comedic commentary about funny videos about soul games. His channel flourished, amassing 10 million subscribers. Fearing obscurity, he played with a single goal: to win.

And right now, he had shifted gears and played a pixelated game which a anonymous indie creator had sent him. He would not check these type of emails that were of dubious origins, but something about the game had captivated him.

Vikram recorded and played the game, but the strange part was that he was so engaged in the gaming that he forgot to tell jokes or make an engaging video.

He was too engaged in gaming for the first time, that he was almost hypnotized with the game. He forgot his surroundings, and he forgot he had to record a video for his channels. The game itself was pixelated, which made it hard to compete in today's market of gaming unless it had an attention-grabbing point.

This game had exactly that.

"Vik, are you okay to... Oh, sorry," A woman, who was young and chirpy opened the door and looked at Vikram, who was recording. Seeing that she had interrupted the recording session, she made a face of apology.

He looked at the girl, and paused the recording, and only then did he realize that he hadn't spoken for a moment, and was too engaged in the game, which astonished him.

He motioned her to come inside and asked why she was here.

"I forgot my purse! I am really sorry for interrupting your gaming sessions though... Hey, my face is up here!" She pouted and went about her own way, meanwhile, Vikram gulped at the massive twin peaks.

Saying that, she went forward to slap him on the head lightly, and went towards to take her phone and purse on the table that she had forgotten.

"Hey, what were you doing though? Normally, you would have made a ton of voice..." She said as she picked up her items, meanwhile, Vikram just scratched his bald head.

"Don't know... Kinda left my mind that I was recording..." He said as he looked at his monitor, to see the character moving idly.

"Anyway, Katherine, you're getting late. You should go to your home right now. Your mother and brother are probably waiting for you, and... Wasn't there something about your boyfriend problem? I wish you good luck." Vikram said as he slowly took his eyes away from the raindrops that were constantly clattering on his glass window and looked at the girl.

Katherine was one of his friends and his helper throughout his life after he hit one million. Katherine had claimed to be his most loyal fan and said that she was an excellent editor, which she really was.

She, most of the time, hung out in his house and helped him if he were to face some discomfort, which he would do at a regular period.

And just looking at her was enough for his pain to ease up, because she was that beautiful. Her black hair, blue eyes, her body, everything about her screamed of charm.

Vikram sighed as he looked behind Katherine who was going away from his room. If he had a chance, he would have given it a try to date Katherine, but for how many years could that last?

Two years?

Three years?

Let's give myself a solid chance... Five years?

And then what? If Vikram was anything, he was arrogant, and with that arrogance came an almost obsessive level of drive towards responsibility. Even though Vikram didn't know it, it was not just the arrogance that had won the hearts of the masses, but the responsible trait that came with it!

But still, he wanted to feel.., before he...

Vikram's shook his head and slowly turned towards the door towards his PC. His sunken, dark, and lifeless eyes started to ignite as he saw the game.

A menacing grin broke apart on his face, his sickly and bald head creating a visage of someone that was going to do something extremely nefarious things.
