Chapter 13 - Thirteen*****

A Gentleman's Proposal

Damien started his day early, his routine precise and deliberate. After a brisk walk around his expansive estate, he performed a set of exercises in the cool morning air. His every move reflected the control he exerted over his life. As he finished, the maid appeared, carrying a tray with a light breakfast. He nodded his thanks, eating in silence, his mind already at work.

Once rested, he leaned back in his chair, gazing out the window as the city bustled below. He reached for his phone and called Greg.

"I need a full background check on Adam," Damien said curtly.

Greg, ever efficient, replied, "Consider it done, sir."

Satisfied, Damien ended the call. His thoughts shifted to Lily, and a rare smile crept across his face. Dialing her number, he waited as the line connected.

Lily's voice was soft but cautious. "Hello?"

"Good morning, Lily," Damien said, his tone light. "I want to take you out for dinner tonight."

She paused. "Dinner? Why?"

"Let's just say it's important," he replied cryptically. "And before you even think of saying no, I'm not taking no for an answer."

Lily chuckled, the sound unexpectedly rich and warm. "And what if I did say no?"

"Then I'll have no choice but to kidnap you," Damien quipped.

Her laugh softened, and Damien felt a peculiar sense of contentment hearing it. "Fine. What time?"

"I'll pick you up at eight."

After the call, Lily found herself lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She wondered about Damien's intentions and what the evening would hold.

Later That Evening

Damien arrived at Lily's door promptly at eight, dressed impeccably in a tailored black suit. The sharp lines of his attire and the confidence in his stance made him every bit the picture of a billionaire.

When Lily opened the door, Damien was momentarily caught off guard. She looked so beautiful, the red gown matched her figure, like it was perfectly made for her.

His eyes roamed her features , taking in every view, lily noticed and ask what are you staring at , he laughs a soft rich laugh, and says I am looking at a beautiful goddess.

Lily is amazed at his honest comment and lost for word's.

Damien smirked. "Shall we'?

Lily followed him to the sleek black car waiting outside.

The restaurant Damien chose was nothing short of spectacular. Nestled atop a high-rise, its floor-to-ceiling windows offered breathtaking views of the glittering city below. Lily couldn't hide her awe.

When the meal arrived, she noticed a peculiar detail—all her favorite dishes were served, down to the dessert. Surprised, she asked, "Did you do this?"

Damien leaned back, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Maybe."

Their conversation flowed easily, with Damien steering it toward lighthearted topics. For a moment, Lily felt herself letting go of her usual reservations.

As the night wore on, Lily decided it was time. She reached into her bag, pulling out the contract.

"I brought this," she said, placing it on the table.

Damien's eyes flicked to the document, then back to her. "So, you've made your decision?"

"Yes," she replied firmly. "I'll go through with it."

Damien didn't hide his satisfaction. "Good. Then there's something you should know. I want us to get married next month."

Lily's eyes widened. "Next month? Why so soon? I need time to prepare, to sort things out at work—"

His expression hardened for a brief moment, but he quickly masked it with a smile. "One month is enough. Do whatever you need to, but understand this—I don't have much patience."

The intensity in his gaze left Lily momentarily speechless.

Back at Lily's Apartment

Damien walked her to her door, his demeanor softening slightly. "Thank you for tonight," he said.

Lily gave him a small nod. "It was... unexpected, but nice."

As he turned to leave, Damien paused. "I'll see you soon, Lily."

Inside, Lily sank onto the couch, reflecting on the evening. Despite her earlier doubts, she couldn't deny that Damien had a way of making her feel seen. Looking at the signed contract on her coffee table, she thought, Maybe he's not as cold as I assumed. Maybe there's more to him than I've allowed myself to see.

Satisfied with the moment, she let herself enjoy the fleeting calm, knowing that the next month would change her life forever.
