Chapter 3 - The Problematic Celebrity 1

The loud knocks on his door made Jax groggily open his eyes and then close them again, hoping to ignore who was disturbing him at the door. But then the knocks sounded louder and harsher like someone was trying to break his door. He groaned as he rose from the couch and covered his eyes, shielding them from the harsh sunlight streaming through the window. His head pounded in sync with the loud knocks on the door.

''Oh, who the fuck is that!'' he groaned again and scratched his head, wondering how he had ended up on the couch. His legs brushed against the empty bottles of alcohol scattered beside the couch, and he cursed angrily as he winced in pain. He recalled the drinking binge he had gone on after quitting his job and how he had spent a day and a half on the couch drinking while trying to console himself.

''Oh, Jax,'' he ran a hand through his messy hair and looked towards the door as the knocking persisted. He got up and headed towards the door, wondering who could visit him early that morning. With a grunt, he staggered to the door and yanked it open, revealing his boss's face on the other side.

''Hey, Jax,'' Regina said, eyeing him. ''I have been trying to reach you for days! What is going on?''

Jax rubbed his eyes, surprised to see Regina at his door. He had not expected her to show up when he had already quit the job, and knowing how Regina usually worked, he believed that she might have come because she wanted him back.

''what are you doing here, Regina?'' Jax asked, yawning and rubbing his hair.

''I have been calling your phone for days, and it is switched off. I only had the time to come down here.''

Jax groaned and rubbed his temples to ward off the pounding headache. ''What are you doing here, Regina? I already quit my job.''

''And that is why I am here.''

He glared at her and then scoffed. "Nothing you say will make me change my mind, Regina. I am done with you and that company." With that, he entered his house, leaving the door open, and Regina followed him.

She quickly covered her nose as she entered, her eyes roaming around to see the bottles of alcohol on the ground. ''Jax, have you been drinking?''

Jax groaned as he sat down on the couch, rubbing his temple again. ''Obviously,'' he rolled his eyes and then folded his arms. ''what the hell do you want from me?''

''The company wants you back,'' Regina announced, her expression serious.

''oh,'' He responded and then suddenly burst into laughter. ''Are you joking now? If you are or not, it doesn't concern me anymore because I am never coming back!''

Regina sighed. ''We are offering you the job of the manager that you wanted.''

Jax raised his eyebrows, and for a moment, he was taken aback, but then he thought about all the benefits he could get from the position. The offer was tempting, but he shook his head in response when he remembered how they had ignored him the first time. No matter what happens, he never returns to the company that ridiculed him for years. ''I am not interested.'' A bitter smile twisted on his lips. ''it is a little late for that, and seeing as it took me to quit to wait for you to realize my worth, it means something must have happened, and you needed me to fill in?'' he asked, and when Regina didn't answer, he scoffed because he already knew the answer. ''It is a little too late for that because I am no longer interested.''

''Jax!'' Regina said through gritted teeth. ''We have no choice in this, and you are right when you say something happened because it did happen. The celebrity doesn't want anyone else aside from you!''

Jax shifted on his couch and laughed again. ''Ridculous,''he said. ''You expect me to believe a celebrity knows me? someone famous knows a nameless person like me?'' He knew that there was no way Regina could have used that to lie to him, but he was finding it hard to believe because he had no connection with no celebrity. ''please stop making up stories, Regina!''

Regina groaned, and her eyes darkened. ''you know what…'' she paused as she angrily yanked out a folder from her bag and stretched it towards him, urging him to take it. ''This is the job offer, and even I would kill to have it!''

Jax took the folder from her and started reading through it.

''it is not an ordinary managing position! This is higher and has huge benefits. Anyone would kill to be in your shoes right now, including me, but the celebrity only wanted you.''

Jax's eyes scanned through the folder, his gaze lingering on the benefits.

A six-figure salary per month

A luxurious apartment in the city

A brand-new carAccess to exclusive events and parties

And other benefits the client will agree on.

As Jax read on, his eyes widened in shock. He exchanged looks with Regina, who nodded at him, and then he continued to read about the managing job. The job required him to be with a celebrity for six months, monitoring and helping him with his Rehab on an exclusive Island. He frowned when he saw the word Rehab, and the only thing that came to his mind was the kind of celebrity that would be assigned to him.

''What kind of problematic celebrity wants me?'' he asked. ''how the hell do they even know who I am?''

Regina didn't respond. Instead, she stared at her wristwatch and then looked around the room, searching for something until her eyes landed on the TV in the center. ''Where is your remote?'' she asked.

Jax eyed her but searched for the remote. When he found it, he looked at her, and she asked him to turn the TV on.

''it should be on by now,'' Regina said, and Jax wondered what she meant. When the screen flickered to life, showing a news anchor's serious face, Jax realized it could connect to his new job.
