"Shhh, I'm trying to listen," Lexy said, placing her finger to her lips, shushing her companion.
"I pray they catch you," she added, blowing gently on her perfectly polished nails.
"Yeah, yeah," Raven replied, and just as the words slipped from her lips, the door swung open. She nearly stumbled forward, almost landing on her face. Regaining her balance, she managed an awkward grin, while the figure at the door shook his head and headed downstairs. As he left, she slowly closed the door behind him and walked inside.
*This girl will never change. She couldn't even knock; she just barged in as if she owns the place,* Raven thought as she straightened up and made her way to the stairs, trying to maintain her composure.
"Come in!" she heard from the other side of the door. As it swung open, she stepped inside and immediately confronted Lexy.
"Look at you lounging on the bed as if it belongs to you. Is this your room? Can't you behave yourself wherever you go? Must you always announce your presence? Why can't you just hide yourself, Lexy Chen?" Raven snapped, causing Kayla, who was seated on the bed, to twitch her lips to the side awkwardly.
"And you didn't even knock before entering," Raven added, her tone sharp.
"You and your sister are something else entirely. She's a backstabbing witch who goes around stealing other people's boyfriends and husbands, and you—you're just a loser," Raven continued, her eyes blazing.
"And as for you, Kayla, you'd better keep a tight grip on your boyfriend, Roman. He's quite the catch, after all. Because these sisters are like witches who fly in the daytime. That saying about witches flying at night? It's not just a myth. Nowadays, some witches take the form of young girls like us and cause chaos during the day, breaking up homes and families. And your sister is one of them," she said, her voice trembling with anger, almost to the point of tears. This revelation made Kayla wonder about the feud between Raven and Lexy's so-called twin sister.
The mention of Roman stirred something in Kayla. She had always wanted him, but the look in his eyes suggested he didn't feel the same.
Lexy stood up and approached Raven, patting her gently on the shoulder. "I'm sorry for what my sister—"
"Don't you dare touch me! Take your filthy hands off me!" Raven yelled, glaring at Lexy. With almost lightning speed, Lexy withdrew her hand as if it had been burned.
"If you ever lay your filthy hands on me again, Lexy, I swear I will not only kill you but bury you myself! You're no better, nor different from that rubbish you call a sister," Raven spat, but to her annoyance, Lexy remained unfazed as she plopped back onto the bed—a quality Raven found infuriating.
"Okay," Lexy replied leisurely before stretching out on the bed.
"And your sister? If I catch her anywhere near my house again, only God knows what I'll do to her," Raven warned, checking the clock on her wrist.
Then Her tone softened. "Um, Le—I mean Kayla, I have to go now. It's getting late, and I don't want my parents finding out I ditched school," she said, starting to walk away.
"Ummm, bye! Do you need a ride home? I'm very good at driving, you know. And just so you know, I already have my driver's license," Lexy teased, clearly enjoying Raven's discomfort.
"You're so annoying! Did I ask you for a ride?" Raven shot back, slamming the door behind her with a loud creak.
"Please don't break the door! This isn't your freaking mansion where you can slam doors as you please!" Lexy called after her, a smirk on her face.
Lexy hissed in frustration. "You want my twin, yet you can't even get rid of that foolish girl. If you had just killed her, I could have enjoyed being my father's daughter, and we could have been on good terms—maybe even best friends! But all you do is talk and never act. If you're serious about this, try killing her. I'd cover your tracks. It's not like you're not an aristocrat yourself." Another hiss escaped her lips as she finished her rant, leaving Kayla momentarily speechless.
"Sorry for my outburst. Anyway, I'm leaving too," Lexy said, leaning in to kiss Kayla on the cheek before walking out of the room.
Kayla watched the two girls, shaking her head. They seemed to oscillate between friendship and conflict. *Next time they'll be on good terms, and the next, they'll be at each other's throats,* she mused.
But now it was time for her shift. She remembered that tomorrow was the engagement party she had to attend. At least Akim would be there—thank goodness for that, she thought.
Taking her café uniform, she sighed as she tied her hair into a messy bun and left for work.

### Moon Café
"Good afternoon, sir," she greeted her boss as she stepped inside.
"You're late," he said sharply, glancing at his watch.
"Look, Kornels, I didn't hire you for this. If you're too fragile for the job, just resign. I need someone capable to manage this place because your laziness has my cooks complaining about your inactivity. I know you were a star once, but please don't let that drag my shop down. The money we earn here is what I use to support my family. Miss Kornels, if it weren't for Roman, I wouldn't have employed a failure like you. If this happens again, I'll fire you, and you can look for a job somewhere else. My remaining cafés are my priority," he said, his voice stern.
"Yes, sir," she replied, bowing her head slightly.
"Now scram," he yelled, causing her to dart out of his presence, feeling the weight of his disappointment.
