Chapter 2 - The school's beauty saves me?

The air echoes with the clash of two objects colliding, and my eyes widen as if on autopilot—I already know who it is. Snow, also known as Seol, is the reigning school beauty. Though right now, I can't decide if I should call her the school's queen of elegance or its weapon-wielding lunatic!

"What the hell are you doing just standing there help me!" She grumbles out but as I glance over her shoulder, I view the two creatures going larger and larger.

"Right," I mutter, trying to control my trembling voice, as open my palms to create something like before but nothing.

[Magic is unable to form]

"I can't do anything!" I say, watching her struggle to keep them back with her sword.

"Fine, then—" she huffs, letting out a sigh just as a burst of blue energy arcs from her sword, blasting them backward. Without missing a beat, she grabs my hand and takes off, dragging me along like a human kite. "We run!"

Our hurried steps ripples through the empty school but the creatures rushing towards us from behind thumps are much louder. Looking behind for a second I glimpse their inhumane forms rushing towards us like dogs mouths dripping with silver and claws now the size of my head.

Gasping for air, I manage to blurt out, "What in the heavens are those things?!" My breathing sounds worse than a dog after a marathon.

As if this was nothing she answers completely level-headed. "Sanity consumers." My mind instantly goes blank as she says that. "First level daywalker."

What the hell are daywalkers and sanity consumers, is she crazier than me? Or maybe it's another lucid dream-

Suddenly one of the creatures from behind me pulls a door off its hinges and throws it, crashing into the wall next to me a piece of wood slices through the flesh on my cheek and on her left leg reassuring me it is not a dream for the both of us.

[Stasis: 10%]

"Have your Stasis accumulated enough?" Seol questions in front of me.

"How do you-"

"No questions now ask later." She replies before I can ask.

"Oh okay!" I say, pushing back all my questions like she asked to force on what's happening at the moment. "Yeah, I have enough!"

"Good!" she declares, spinning around with eyes alight and a smirk curving her lips. "Get ready!"

"What?!" I skid to a stop behind her, watching in stunned silence as she slams her blade into the ground.

The creatures barrel toward us, their monstrous forms crashing through the chaos, but she doesn't flinch. Energy begins to pulse around her, building in intensity. Her white locs whip wildly in the growing storm, adding to the otherworldly scene.

Just as one of the creatures lunges, its massive claw glowing with blue energy, the floor erupts. Glowing blue webs spring from the ground, ensnaring the beast mid-attack. In an instant, the webs crystallize into icy vines, tangling and freezing both creatures in a place like nature's wrath incarnate.

"Now!!" She yells. "End it!!"

Snapping back from my literal out-of-body experience, I reply with a quick. "Right!"

Extending my palms outwards, I concentrate and form a rocket launcher, but as I press down on the trigger instead of a missile coming out a bright golden beam bursts forth hurling towards the monsters with an unstoppable speed.

"BOOYAHH!!" I shout in triumph as it splits through them with ease.

"Impressive." I hear her mutter but before I can question her about anything the surroundings change back to how it was before with the girls walking past me as if nothing just happened.

What...the...

Reaching my hand to my face, I wipe the blood still seeping from the opened wound on my cheek.

"Don't you feel that?" The same girl's irritating voice reaches my ear. "I feel way lighter than before!"

"Same here, before I was feeling all heavy."

So it did happen? Seol!

Flipping around, I rush back to class in a hurry and burst back open the doors to see her sitting right there, all prim and pretty, but as I take in her full body I notice an open wound on her left leg which she tries to cover.

"Souta, did you tell the principal?" The teacher matches up to me. "And did they call your parents?"

"No, and my parents are dead," I say blankly, my eyes not moving from Seol once.

Sigh Mr. Arata only shakes his head. "Come in." He moves aside and I walk in. "No more distractions or sleeping."

"Right." I bow respectfully and take my seat, still, I can't wait for lunch period to talk to her.
