Chapter 94: Love You, Never Let Go
Yan Ruoxi's eyes narrowed as she confronted the doctor and nurses. "What have you done to her?"
The doctor attempted to remain composed. "Ms. Yan, we haven't done anything to Ms. Liang. She came here for a check-up. Her body is extremely weak, and the fetus is developing abnormally. We suggested that terminating the pregnancy would be the best course of action for her health. She got emotional, but we were only trying to help—"
"Shut up!" Yan Ruoxi cut him off, her voice filled with icy fury. She wasn't a fool; she wouldn't fall for such obvious lies.
The doctor froze, unable to continue under her withering glare.
"Don't let me see you here again. You don't deserve to call yourselves doctors, let alone 'angels in white,'" she hissed. Her fury was barely contained as she dismissed them.
The doctor and nurses, knowing they couldn't afford to provoke someone like Yan Ruoxi, quickly fled.
At that moment, Ruoxi's own cardiologist stepped out, having overheard the commotion. Concern etched on his face, he said, "Ms. Yan, I've warned you before not to get overly emotional—it's bad for your heart."
Ruoxi gave a bitter smile. "I'm fine," she replied, brushing off his concerns.
The doctor sighed but didn't press further, knowing her stubbornness.
Ruoxi focused all her attention on Liang Xiaoluo, waiting patiently for her to wake up. Half an hour later, Xiaoluo's eyelids fluttered open. She woke with a start, memories of what had happened flooding back. Trembling, she cried out, "No! Don't hurt my baby! Please, no…"
"Xiaoluo, Xiaoluo!" Ruoxi gripped her hand tightly, trying to calm her.
Xiaoluo's eyes slowly focused on Ruoxi's familiar face. Relief washed over her as she registered that she was safe. But the next moment, tears streamed down her cheeks. "Sister-in-law, my baby…"
Ruoxi gently brushed her hair and soothed her. "Your baby is fine. Don't worry, it's still there."
Hearing this, Xiaoluo clutched Ruoxi in a desperate embrace. "Really? My baby is still here? Is it really safe?"
"Yes," Ruoxi said softly, stroking Xiaoluo's back. "It's okay now. Everything is fine."
In that moment, Ruoxi's earlier anger and jealousy evaporated. Seeing Xiaoluo so vulnerable, she couldn't bring herself to hold onto those feelings.
Xiaoluo finally felt a semblance of peace. But the relief didn't last long. Ruoxi gently pressed her, "Xiaoluo, tell me—what happened? Who brought you here? Who wanted to harm your baby?"
Xiaoluo stiffened. Images of Mr. and Mrs. Gu's cold, calculating expressions flashed in her mind, along with their cruel words and veiled threats. Fear coursed through her, and her body began to tremble again.
"I… I can't say," she stammered, shaking her head.
Ruoxi gripped her shoulders firmly. "Xiaoluo, you have to tell me. I can help you, but I need to know the truth."
But no matter how much Ruoxi pressed, Xiaoluo refused to divulge anything. She couldn't risk it—not when her father's safety and her child's future were being used as bargaining chips.
Eventually, Ruoxi sighed, seeing she wouldn't get an answer. "Fine. Let's go home first. We can talk about this later."
When Xiaoluo hesitated, Ruoxi added, "You need rest, and your baby needs you to stay healthy. Let's go."
Xiaoluo nodded weakly. As Ruoxi helped her stand, Xiaoluo suddenly clutched her arm. "Sister-in-law, please… don't tell Tianlin about this. Don't tell anyone."
Ruoxi froze, shocked by the request. "Why not? Someone tried to hurt you—tried to kill your child! How can you hide this?"
"I'm begging you," Xiaoluo pleaded, tears in her eyes. "Promise me, please."
Ruoxi struggled with the decision but eventually relented, unable to refuse Xiaoluo's desperation. "Fine," she said quietly. "I won't say anything. But you have to promise me you'll take care of yourself."
Back at the Ye family estate, the atmosphere in the living room was lively. Laughter echoed through the halls as Ye Tianlin, Mr. and Mrs. Gu, Gu Lingzi, and Ye Lao sat together like a picture-perfect family.
As Ruoxi entered with Xiaoluo, she raised her voice deliberately. "Grandfather, we're back."
The room fell silent, all eyes turning to the two women. Mr. and Mrs. Gu quickly stood to greet them.
"Xiaoluo, why are you so late getting back?" Mrs. Gu asked, feigning concern. She turned to Ye Tianlin and Ye Lao with an explanation already prepared. "We took her for a check-up. She said she wanted to go for a walk afterward, and we couldn't stop her. We were so worried, but now that she's safe, it's a relief."
Gu Lingzi chimed in, her tone laced with false sweetness. "Daddy, Mommy, how could you leave Xiaoluo alone? What if something had happened?"
Mrs. Gu sighed dramatically. "You're right, Lingzi. It was our fault. We won't let it happen again."
Their words were like daggers to Xiaoluo, but she kept her face emotionless. Ruoxi, however, was seething inside. She had pieced together enough of the truth to know these people were far from innocent.
"Mrs. Gu," Ruoxi said sharply, "you mentioned you took Xiaoluo for a check-up?"
Mrs. Gu nodded quickly, not sensing the trap. "Yes, the doctor said everything is fine—both the baby and Xiaoluo are healthy."
"Oh?" Ruoxi's eyes narrowed. She could tell they were lying through their teeth, but Xiaoluo's earlier plea held her back from exposing them.
Xiaoluo tugged discreetly at Ruoxi's sleeve, silently begging her to let it go. With great effort, Ruoxi swallowed her anger.
"I'm feeling tired," Xiaoluo said, breaking the tension. "I think I'll go rest."
"I'll help you," Ruoxi offered.
"No, thank you," Xiaoluo said softly. "I can manage."
Ruoxi watched her retreat upstairs, her heart heavy with unspoken truths.
Later that night, Xiaoluo lay in bed, her hand resting protectively over her belly. Tears slipped silently down her cheeks. Her child was still safe, and for now, that was enough.
But how long could she endure this pain alone? How long could she keep the truth hidden from Ye Tianlin, the man she loved?
In the quiet of the house, as she passed the study on her way to get water, she overheard Ye Lao's voice from inside:
"Tianlin, I'm begging you—please, just do this for me."
