Chapter 2 - The Villainess

Crash!

Smash!

Shatter!

Bang!

Clank!

Clink!

Crack!

Glasses and plates on the Duke Wynter's dining table flew and shattered, scattering fragments throughout the room.

Terrified servants stood frozen near the doorway. Male servants and knights stared, dumbfounded, at the young woman hurling dishes in every direction.

Her face reddened, overcome with emotion.

"Why didn't you serve the food I requested?" she screamed. "Why must I wait so long for my tropical fruit salad?"

The servants exchanged bewildered glances, struggling to respond. How were they supposed to get tropical fruits in the middle of winter, especially here in Duke Wynter's freezing lands?

After clearing the table, the young woman stormed out, her heels clicking angrily. Servants parted, fearful. The young woman's angry footsteps faded after she stormed out, slamming the door.

The servants exchanged disbelieving glances, surveying the ravaged dining room. Food, sauces, and shards littered the floor, even reaching the curtains.

A middle-aged servant took initiative, beginning the cleanup. Female servants followed suit, while male servants righted overturned chairs.

They were cleaning the room with hushed conversations. They were talking about my behaviours, and why the Duke and Duchess let me act like this.

***

That was me, once. A young woman whose every whim was catered to and every whim obeyed. Failure to comply came with consequences. Sometimes I went beyond the lines.

My name is Aurora Wynter, though my family affectionately calls me Rory.

Peoples will see me as a stunning beauty, with porcelain-like skin, long blonde hair and striking green eyes.

Those unfamiliar with my true nature will shower me with admirations. Numerous young nobles have proposed, but my father rejected them all.

At social gatherings and tea parties, I'm consistently the center of attention, praised as "the enchanting doll-like beauty" and "the kind-hearted darling".

My parents and brother spoil me excessively. Anything I desire, they'll try to fulfill, sparing no expense, of course, unless my request is difficult to grant.

My family is extremely wealthy, coupled with our prestigious title of Duke. My father is brilliant in business. Our mines are everywhere. Therefore, I constantly adorned in sumptuous, designer gowns and exquisite, priceless jewelry.

My brother, Julian Stellan Wynter, shares my features, with a taller, more muscular build and broad shoulders.

My brother has always been overly protective of me. I was told that when I was four, I wandered off during a family trip to the capital's temple. Lost in the crowd, I stumbled onto the main road.

A galloping carriage hurtled toward me, its horses' hooves pounding the ground. Miraculously, the carriage screeched to a halt mere inches from my tiny frame. Though spared from fatal injury, the shock left me battered and unconscious.

That harrowing incident sparked their suffocating protectiveness. Now, they cater to my every whim, fearful of history repeating itself.

Do you think my behavior is very bad?

Yes, it is indeed very bad. Bad girl. Arrogant girl. Cruel girl.

Wait, I am not a cruel one.

I can't even kill an ant.

And like other girls, I am afraid of bugs. How will you not afraid? Their tiny limbs are filled with tiny thorns... Arrghhh, the point is... I hate bugs. How can I even killed them?

Hmm...

I talked too much nonsense already.

Alright, now I will tell you how my room looks like.

It is a very biiiiiigggg room, with a big bed, and a fireplace to warm the room.

If you imagine a very luxurious and definitely cute girly style for a princess, yes, you are correct. But I don't like pink, so don't imagine my room has pinky decorations on it. Not a single pinky minky tinky in my room.

Oh, the room will have the burnt firewords you say? Of course not. It smells so nice, my maids will give scented oils to be burnt in the fire. I prefer flowery scents, and today I am using lavender aroma. Yes, it is refreshing.

Now can we move to my wardrobes, yes?

What do you want to see first, my designer's dresses, my expensive shoes collections, or my precious and beatiful jewelries?

Madame Elisa made most of my dresses. She has a great taste, indeed, suitable with my preferences. My shoes of course, chosen by her as well, to accentuate my dresses she said. I could not understand it well actually, my shoes will stay hidden inside my lengthy gowns, so which part will get accentuated.

Oh well, whatever. Let's see my jewelries now will you? Many valuable gemstones I have. Mainly I have jades, because I love its color matching with my green big eyes. And do remember my family has a lot of mines. You name it, diamonds, rubbies, jades. Even the king's daughters are jealous of me. They don't have jewelries as many as I do.

Now do you understand how rich my family is?

Oh no, don't suspect me to be very happy at all. My family is super protective of me, right? I am a beautiful bird with beautiful cage, beautiful accesories, and expensive meals. I am caged! Not free!

My only outings will be on other families invitations to banquets, dance parties, or tea parties. Sometimes it is boring to hear the girls gossiping, but what can I do? I am bored! This is my only entertainment.

But, I always pretend to be a very elegant and kind princess in public. I will not join if my friends bullying others. Why?

I have my own norms. I have my own dignity. I am a Wynter. I love my father, my mother, and my brother. I won't make them get any humiliation because of my actions.

Oh yes, my hobby? Umm, nothing much. I have nothing to do, so I just laze around, taking strolls at our vast gardens, reading books, and sleep. I don't eat much, my mother will nag me if I don't care for my weight.

Isn't it the kind of life all of you always wanted, is it? Slacking life? A life where you can be lazy, not doing anything, but you are so rich so you don't have to work. Well, I bet you are jealous of me.
