Chapter 23 - Traumatic Incident

The group fell on a town block, surrounded by forests, "Jeez, this so-called Cycle has only happened for a month, how is there already moss on buildings?" Sakonori said, as she was a little intrigued on how long it has been. "This is an abandoned town, Hamesville, it is the closest town from the city we were at when this all started." Edward said to her in a calm tone.

The group starts walking through the street, filled with cars with shattered windows, and destroyed stores. "Please, god, please let me be safe, please, I beg of you all." The group heard from a run down school.

"Were those prayers?" Rayna questioned, as she heard the prayers. "I believe so, I just don't remember the religion." Satoya said as they were walking to the source of the sound. "I'll go investigate it." Isaac said, but as he was walking over there, a man told him not to go.

"Do not go over there…that place is full of those wretched demons!" the man says as the group saw a man with a missing arm, a gouged out eye, clinging on to life. "But if you are going, please save my poor girl…she is the one saying those prayers, my poor daughter, my only family ever since my wife was killed by those beasts." The man said in tears.

"Don't worry sir, we are void hunters!" Sakonori said in an uplifting tone, the man teared up, "Oh thank you kind people, may the heavens bless you.." the man said.

"May Ariboli save my daughter." The man mumbles as they walk towards the school. Ariboli is the most powerful god in Ariboli's pantheon, pantheons are real world mythologies, except instead of "Greek mythology" it is Zeus' Pantheon, Ariboli is the fictional deity.

"So much graffiti, this place reminds me of my middle school strangely enough," Sakonori said, "Stay on your guard, we need to recover the man's daughter, stay silent, we need to listen to those prayers." Edward said, as he was trying to listen to the prayers.

"I don't want to die..." The man's daughter's prayers got slightly louder each floor they got on.

"I hate 3 story schools, Ugh!" Isaac complained, while they got up, "Satoya, don't move a single inch!" The voice said to Satoya, "Stop." Satoya gestured to the group, "Something is wrong, I can tell, the girl's prayers are quiet." He whispered to the group.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" A young child's voice said, the group saw a girl around the age of 16, holding a box cutter, horribly injured, with a horrified face. "Where is my dad.." the girl said in a tone that seemed like the girl was being held hostage, the group looked into the dark hallway and saw the girl walking toward them.

"Oh is that her?" Rayna asked, as Satoya started approaching the horrified girl. "Don't be afraid, we are here to save you." Satoya said in a calm, gentle tone, the girl stumbled toward him, dropping the box cutter along the way.

"It's strange frankly, how did she survive this long?" the voice in his head pondered. Suddenly the girl's chest was shot through by a bright laser, the laser pierced through hitting Satoya's side. The group is in shock as they also witnessed the horrific scene happen, he saw the girl's pupil slowly fade, Satoya didn't even realise he was also hit.
