{ Mia }
Once we arrived in front of this principal's office my body started trembling as I slowly turned the door handle.
Then, I felt a firm hand on my shoulder I turned to see Cole giving me a reassuring smile ." It's going to be fine. I'm right here with you ."
I smiled as my tense body loosened a bit.
Hesitantly I opened the door then, I heard the principal scream." Hasn't anyone ever told you how to knock !"
I flinched I wasn't expecting her to shout . Quickly I closed the door and lightly tapped on it. I took a deep breath as I heard her say." Come in ."
I slowly opened the door and was left speechless. My entire body locked up. The sight of him was a punch to the gut. He wasn't supposed to be here. He couldn't be here.
"No way… What—what are you doing here?" My voice barely came out a whisper, my throat dry.
The words slipped out, unbidden, leaving my mouth before my brain could catch up.
The principal frowned. "This is my office, Miss…"
"It's not you I'm talking to," I cut her off, my voice firm despite the growing unease twisting inside me.
The world froze. The air grew heavy, suffocating. The principal's inhale stuttered in the quiet, her expression locked in place like a mannequin. Cole, too, stood still as if the very ground had glued him there. But him... he was still moving.
Only the man moved.
My pulse hammered in my throat, each beat louder than the last. I balled my fists at my sides, but my hands trembled, as if my body knew something my mind couldn't comprehend.' what's happening?' ' Is it the end ?!'
"You know," he mused, his voice calm too calm. "No one else can see me. This cloak makes sure of that."
" Then how come I can still see you ." I stated my voice trembling.
" Mia," he murmured, tilting his head as if studying a puzzle. "You don't even know what you are, do you?" He stated removing a stray hair from my face
I stumbled back, my breath hitching. The strand of hair he had touched glowed for a second before shifting blonde, bright and unnatural against the rest of my hair. My fingers shot up, shaking as I brushed against it. Then, just as quickly as it came, the color faded back. My stomach twisted.
"What the hell is happening to me?" Then, I stared at him ."H-How did you do that ?!?"
He smiled widely " this is who you are Mia " he started " you've just been kept 'hidden ' to be safe, but you'll figure it out soon enough " he smiled sinisterly and disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Then, suddenly the world snapped back into motion. " Then who were you talking to miss?" I stood there unable to move my mind still reeling in shock. ' how did my hair turn blond?? how did it return to normal after I touched it ?!'
"Ahem," Mrs. Jones cleared her throat, her gaze piercing through me. "Are we done with our daydreaming, Miss Bianchi ?"
I snapped back to reality, turning to Mrs. Jones like I had been yanked from a dream I couldn't understand." N-n-nothing mrs Jones. I was j-just here to d-discuss why my n-name isn't registered in my new classes." I asked stuttering.
" Oh " her smirk flattered." But I did sweetheart."
" No the teacher told me I didn't belong there " I turned to Cole." Y-yes ma'am she sent me here with her to confirm."
Mrs. Jones tapped her chin, her eyes narrowing slightly before nodding. "Alright, I'll call her. Make sure she lets you in."
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Finally, something normal for once.
"Thank you, ma'am," I said, forcing a smile before practically rushing out the door.
