"What?!" I screamed eager to find out .
" This time ...." She paused as if hesitating." There are ten of them ."
I froze 'ten ?'
' how would we survive? No one could win 2v10'
Suddenly without thinking I ordered." Get Mom to my room. Wipe her memory of this. Now! " I barked then continued. " And give me the bubble bomb ." I smirked , they weren't going to get away with this .
At that moment I was proud of myself for inventing so many gadgets in my free time.
The memory eraser, was for when someone discovered Scarlett, the bubble bomb is a peice of gum that when chewed them launched at just the perfect force it would create a bubble prison for anyone 2 ft in the area .
As I started chewing I grimaced.' I really need to fix the taste .' I thought. ' just a few more minutes, then I can spit it out .' I encouraged myself.
" Scarlett alert the cops, after I'm done with them, tell them to look in the woods "
" Consider it done ."
I grabbed a sniper rifle, feeling it's weight in my hands, I walked towards the door, my palms slick with sweat, I could feel my heart beat increasing by the second.
I walked out, gripping the sniper rifle tightly. "No one move!" I barked, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me.
For a split second, they actually hesitated. I scanned them quickly black uniforms, military stance, well-armed. My eyes flickered to one of them, a man with a long, jagged scar running from his temple to his chin. My stomach twisted. Where have I seen him before?
The scarred man stepped forward, aiming his gun at me. "We were expecting Larissa, not some kid." His voice was sharp, almost amused.
I clenched my jaw. Larissa. Who the hell is Larissa?
He took another step toward me. "I'll ask one more time who are you?"
"Boss, what do we do?" one of his men muttered.
"Quiet," the scarred man snapped, keeping his eyes locked on me.
I forced a smirk. "I'll tell you," I said smoothly, playing for time. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the gum. "But first… gum?"
The goons exchanged confused glances.
"What the....."
Too late. I threw the gum with perfect precision, watching as it landed just between them.
Pop.
For a second, nothing happened. Then... BOOM!
A shimmering, translucent bubble expanded outward at lightning speed, engulfing them. The surface rippled like liquid glass, glowing faintly under the moonlight. The men stumbled back, some slamming their fists against it.
"What the hell is this?!"
One of them fired a shot the bullet bounced back, narrowly missing his own leg.
I smirked. "Scarlett, activate the fainting gas."
A soft hissing sound filled the air as an invisible gas spread inside the bubble. One by one, they started dropping.
The scarred man was the last to go. Before his knees buckled, his eyes met mine.
A flicker of recognition crossed his face.
"You…" he murmured, before collapsing.
My breath caught.
What did he mean by that?
" Scarlett, pop the bubble. And transport all of them to the woods. "
Then, I thought. But before I could stop her she had already teleported them away. ' I guess I'll have to wait another day to interrogate the scarred man .' I sighed.
" How's progress going with mom ?"
" Her memory is almost erased.i just need 10 more minutes."
I sighed." Clean up the house, make it look exactly the same as before she arrived. Once her memory is erased, put her in the car."
I turned away from the now-empty space where the scarred man and his team had been. The faint scent of burnt ozone lingered a side effect of Scarlett's teleportation system.
Something glinted in the grass.
I frowned, stepping closer. A small black device lay there, half-buried in the dirt.
"A communicator?" I muttered, picking it up.
A faint red light blinked on its surface. Still active.
My stomach twisted. Had someone heard everything?
"Scarlett," I called. "Can you decode this?"
Scarlett's voice crackled in my earpiece. "Analyzing now… Hold on. Mia, this is encrypted tech. Whoever these guys are they're serious."
I swallowed hard. "What the hell have I just gotten myself into?"
