Chapter 17 - Awakening the genius

{Mia}

As I ran I couldn't help but think that I should get back to school. ' it's safer there ' I thought.

" Scarlett" I said , as I glanced at my wrist, searching for her approval, remembering the moment when Scarlett was destroyed, grief overwhelmed me, tears streaming down my face. Then I remembered the man's words

"You're weak , crying won't solve the problem."

Struggling, I pulled back my tears, and ran back to school .

As I entered the halls , I glanced around , no one was in sight . I ran to the nurse's office, making sure to avoid the hall monitors . As I entered my eyes scanned the room for any signs of the man . But there were none , I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

My eyes dropped to the floor where my broken smartwatch was lying. Seeing her shattered on the floor felt like losing a part of myself.Scarlett wasn't just a smartwatch; she was my lifeline, my constant companion.

' I will avenge you ' . I stated confidently.

Then the bell rang and it was time for chemistry class .

' you can do this Mia just a few more hours ' I told myself.

Feeling a little more confident,I ran towards class , and sat in my seat .

As class started I felt my eyelids drop closed , and I dozed off.

Later, the teacher woke me up . " Mia " she said strictly " you think, you're smarter than the rest of the class ?" She asked with a questioning gaze .

" Go ahead and teach the class . "

I asked sleepily " what's the subject again?"

She looked at me with blazing eyes and said ." Ionic and covalent bonds " she muttured under gritted teeth .

I stood up shrugging and explained the whole lesson in under 10 minutes.

I turned around and smirked and the teacher. The look on her face was priceless. I could also see the look of utter disbelief in the students eyes I knew they weren't expecting that .

" Easy " I said dropping the marker on the table .

I felt pround and accomplished, I never knew I could've done this !

Her eyes widened in shock as she continued." H-how did you do that ?" She asked in utter disbelief." Did you cheat ? Do you have an earbud in your ear ?"

" No miss "

" I think you should come with me to the principal's office."

My train of thoughts stopped abruptly when suddenly she pulled me by my wrist and dragged me toward the principal's office. My mind raced as the teacher dragged me along. The hallway stretched endlessly before me, each step like a drumbeat in my chest. I could feel the stares of invisible eyes pressing down on me. Was this it? Would they label me a fraud?

Did she really think I cheated? Was she worried about her reputation? My palms grew clammy, and my heartbeat roared in my ears as we reached the door. The principal's cold, commanding voice cut through my thoughts. "Come in."

As we entered I could faintly smell the smell of freshly printed papers mixed with window cleaner .

I looked around the office took in the brown bookshelf, with black wallpaper and two seats in front of her desk , I froze when my gaze locked with hers I felt like a bullet was penetrating my forehead, I trembled then I heard her voice ." Don't tell me she caused trouble already?" She asked raising her brows looking amused .

" No-no , not at all " the teacher began with hesitation evident in her voice ." I just wanted to have her tested.... You know ,for the opportunity to get moved to a higher class ."she stated

" Interesting. Not many students catch my attention like this… let alone in chemistry."

I was surprised, did she really think I belonged in a higher class? I wasn't always like this. Just last month, I struggled with equations and formulas. But now… now it's like the answers come to me before I even finish reading the questions. Was this some side effect of the secret room? Or was it something deeper, something inside me?

My train of thoughts were interrupted when I saw, the principal's amused smile faltered as she studied me, her sharp eyes narrowing.

The silence stretched between us, broken only by the hum of the air conditioner. I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. Did I really belong in a higher class? Or was I about to be put in detention .

"Tested, you say?" she repeated slowly, as if turning the idea over in her mind.

I straightened my back and met the principal's gaze head-on. If this was my moment to prove myself, I wasn't going to back down.

Then the principal, started tapping furiously on her computer, I couldn't help but be intrigued in what she was doing, then , suddenly, the printer started working and papers appeared.

She stood up put the papers in front of me and stated firmly." You have 1 hour . You will be tested in all subjects, to see if you will pass ." Smirking she continued " and you will do it in front of me of course, to check if you're cheating."

She set a timer , and I began . I picked up the pen, my hand steady despite the weight of their stares. The questions blurred for a second before snapping into clarity, almost as if the answers had been whispered into my ear. Numbers, dates, equations .It was almost like the equations unraveled themselves in my mind, as though I had solved them a thousand times before. I didn't just know the answers I felt them, like they were part of me. I solved them all without hesitation.

As I scribbled down the answers, I realized something: this wasn't luck, and it wasn't chance. This was me. Whatever had changed inside me, it made me unstoppable. A smirk tugged at my lips.

" Done ." I stated smirking .

" Impossible " she stated firmly." It's only been 20 minutes."

I smirked." Check it ."

I watched in amusement as she called the professor in charge and he started correcting . The professor's pen hovered over the paper before moving again, each checkmark like a thunderclap in the quiet office. My heart raced, but I forced myself to stay calm. This wasn't just a test it was proof.

The color drained from the principal's face, her hands trembling slightly as she gripped the desk. "This can't be," she muttered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the professor's pen scratching the page. " You cheated." She snapped.

" How could I have cheated, you watched me the whole time ." I smirked.

The principal's knuckles turned white as she gripped the edge of the desk. "This is… impossible," she murmured, her voice barely concealing the tremor of disbelief.

She looked at the professor and he nodded.

" You should be going straight to university, but since you have no college credit, it's impossible, so I'll have to put you in the 12 th grade ." She said hesitation evident in her tone ." You can go home for now, come back tomorrow and we will send your schedule shortly ."

I smiled, " thank you for this opportunity miss " I said faking respect .

Then I got out of school and headed home .

As I walked out of the school gates, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me. The wind whispered through the trees, carrying a promise of trouble.
