Shuri was so startled by what was happening that she began to question the reality in front of her.
Did Karlene really just hit Roy Lloyd, the vice-director of Lloyd Media Group, at the police station with so many officers around?
"Ugh… What am I supposed to do?" Shuri sighed in defeat as she observed a couple of officers restraining Karlene while the rest assisted Roy in getting up from the ground.
At that moment, Shuri believed that her sister was so done for.
Not even a top lawyer like Ethan could help her out of it this time, right?
How Shuri wished Noran was here at the moment, so she could faint into his arms and escape from this reality.
Unfortunately for her, Noran didn't appear, and the police were about to apprehend Karlene once again for causing harm to Roy.
"I guess I can only pray for a miracle." Shuri clasped her hands together and began a silent prayer, "Dear god, please help my foolish sister. She might be making a bunch of stupid decisions these past few days, but please give her one more chance to find her lost brain cells and put them to good use."
Then, it was as though heaven had answered her prayer when Roy exclaimed, "Stop! I asked for it."
"???"
There were question marks on everyone's face before one of the officers asked, "What do you mean, Sir?"
"I mean, I asked her to hit me, so let her go!" Roy explained loudly, wiping the blood off his split lips as he spoke.
The officers exchanged glances, clearly shocked by the turn of events.
On the other hand, Ethan quickly took the opportunity and stated, "Since getting hit by my client was a request from Mr. Lloyd, then my client is not a fault here. Please release her."
What the hell was happening?
"Did my prayer work, or do I have another ability that I didn't know of?" Shuri wondered in disbelief.
She watched as the officers released Karlene, and Roy looked at Karlene with a silly smile, as if he didn't mind her hitting him at all.
Now, everyone present believed that one of the most prominent figures in the city had either lost his mind or was a masochist.
Karlene ignored Roy and hurried back to Shuri. "Let's get out of here."
Before Shuri could protest, she took Shuri's hand and left the police station.
"Hey Karlene, wait!" Roy shouted, chasing after them.
Karlene continued to ignore him and walked out of the gate with Shuri.
"Karlene, please listen to me…" Roy continued to call out to her from behind.
Karlene turned around and warned Roy, "Stop following me! Do you want me to hit you again?"
Shuri quickly interfered and said, "Lene, I don't know what happened between you and Mr. Lloyd, but you shouldn't have treated him this way. He was the one who hired Mr. Hughes to help you."
"Sis, you don't understand. He…" Karlene wanted to explain but was suddenly at a loss for words.
She couldn't possibly tell her sister that Roy was her first love. He had persistently courted her in the past and when she finally agreed to start a serious relationship with him, he suddenly ghosted her. It took her so long to finally let go of her feelings for him, and she couldn't control her anger upon meeting him again.
"…You just need to know he's a coward," Karlene replied to Shuri, offering little explanation.
She then turned to face Roy, glaring angrily at him. "I didn't ask for your help, and I don't want it either. I'll pay Ethan his attorney fee."
"I'm the one who hired Ethan, so I'll pay on your behalf…"
"I think I have the right to decide who's paying for my service," Ethan, who was standing beside Roy, intervened before Roy could finish his sentence.
"Good, I don't like owing others favors. I know you're expensive, but no matter the cost, I'd definitely pay you for your services, even if it meant it would take a lifetime," Karlene replied confidently.
"I don't mind you repaying me for a lifetime." Ethan smiled, looking at Karlene as if he had just found a new toy he wanted to bring home.
Being one of the most sought-after lawyers in the country, Ethan had met many people, mostly rich and manipulative, seeking his help for their own selfish reasons. They lacked depth and genuine concern for others. Therefore, Karlene appeared like a breath of fresh air. While her actions appeared rather questionable, Ethan found her bravery and straightforwardness intriguing.
What intrigued him even more was Roy's unexpected interest in Karlene. Roy, known for always fooling around with women and never taking them seriously, displayed genuine interest in someone like Karlene was an anomaly. This complexity in their relationship dynamics fascinated Ethan, prompting him to dig deeper into their connection.
"Stay out of this, Ethan," Roy said, becoming irritated. "This is between me and Karlene. Don't butt in."
As the two men began to engage in an argument. Shuri, who was at the sideline, covered her mouth in surprise. Unlike Karlene, Shuri, being the insightful one, realized Ethan's and Roy's interest in her sister.
Shuri was definitely delighted to learn that one of these good-looking men might one day become her brother-in-law. Obviously, since Noran was her bias, she couldn't quite see them as better looking than him, but she acknowledged that both Roy and Ethan were fine men.
"Allow me to remind you that Karlene is under my representation. May I inquire as to the nature of your association with Karlene?"
Shuri watched as Ethan responded to Roy in his typical professional manner, displaying the expertise expected of someone in his legal profession. Top of Form
In her eyes, Ethan emanated a deep and calming shade of blue – a color that signified intelligence and trustworthiness. Thus, she believed Ethan would complement the fiery red aura of Karlene, making them compatible partners.
On the other hand —
"Ha! You dare act like you're much better than me when you've only known Karlene for an hour." Roy didn't back down either. "Just so you know, Karlene and I've known each other for twelve years!"
Shuri looked at Roy and thought he was rather interesting. His aura radiated a vibrant shade of green with a hint of gold, suggesting ambition and loyalty, yet also indicating a logical and far-sighted nature, albeit with a touch of self-centeredness. Growing up observing people's auras, Shuri had learned that individuals with red auras like Karlene were often drawn to those with green auras like Roy's.
"I don't know a coward like you!" Karlene, unable to tolerate it any longer, interjected into their argument. She glared at Roy before he could respond and snapped, "Get out of my sight before I hit you again!"
"Karlene, can't we just talk?" Roy asked, his tone softening, sounding somewhat pitiful. After what he did to her, he knew she'd be upset with him, but he didn't expect her to be this mad. After all, twelve years had passed, and he hadn't anticipated she would still hold it against him after all this time.
"I have nothing to say to you!"
After leaving Roy with no chance to explain himself, Karlene quickly exchanged contact with Ethan and bid him farewell. She didn't even bother to glance back at Roy before departing with Shuri.
