Chapter 8 - Unyielding Faith

There was a brief moment of silence as Shuri continued to stare at the explicit photo on the phone screen.

Sophia smirked, expecting that Shuri would either burst into tears from feeling betrayed or explode in rage.

However –

"Just because of this?" Shuri placed the phone back on the table and pushed it back to Sophia, looking as though the content she just saw didn't matter.

"Just because of this? I slept with your husband! Isn't that more than enough reason for you to divorce him?!" Sophia exclaimed, raising her voice in disbelief.

She couldn't understand Shuri's reaction at all. Shouldn't she be displaying shock, disbelief, grief, and anger?

Why did she still appear so calm?

"Miss Carter, I refuse to let my Ran be with someone like you. You're the worst kind of person," Shuri replied, her expression changing slightly as she gazed at Sophia as if she were a pest that needed to be exterminated.

Little did Sophia know that Shuri was born with a special ability.

She could distinguish between good and evil, and if she wished, she could even peer deeply into a person's soul.

Since childhood, those around her emitted colored auras in her eyes, with individuals displaying dark and eerie radiance often being identified as evil.

This was the reason Shuri could survive in this difficult world with Karlene after their parents' death. She was always surrounded by kind souls because she'd avoid those evil ones, and Sophia was one of the most, if not the most, wicked people she had encountered by far.

She referred to such individuals as pests because of the harm they would frequently inflict on others.Top of Form

The moment Shuri stepped into the café and laid her eyes on Sophia, she knew Sophia was a pest, not just any minor pest, but a major one.

Her years of experience taught her never to trust anything a pest said, and if she couldn't avoid one, it was best to stay calm.

Sophia smirked at Shuri's remark. "Miss Lee, I know you're poorly educated, but I didn't expect you to be so lacking in intellect. Me? The COO of the Carter group, the spokesperson of the Woman Empowerment Association, and nominated as the year's most influential woman, the worst kind of human? Ha! Your brain is clearly lacking."

"Lacking a brain is better than lacking morals, Miss Carter," Shuri retorted calmly.

"Morals? Why should I be talking about morals with someone as dumb as you? Stop playing games with me, Miss Lee. You clearly got nothing that's better than me. Unlike me, you can't help Noran strike in his life. You can't even have a child with him, ain't I right?"

Shuri lowered her head at Sophia's remark. "You're right. "I can't help my Ran in his career because of my poor background nor can I have a child with him because of my weak body…"

Thinking she had won, Sophia continued with an arrogant smirk, "That's why…"

"But neither can you," Shuri interjected, lifting her gaze with unwavering confidence.

"How dare you put me in the same caliber as you!" Sophia shot back, shooting an angry glance at Shuri as if she had just heard the most absurd statement.

"You've misunderstood me, Miss Carter. What I mean is, you can't help Noran because he'd refused to work with you. And you can't have a child with him unless he agrees to sleep with you. Ain't I right, Miss Carter?" Shuri smiled meaningfully at Sophia.

Sophia, taken aback by Shuri's response, was momentarily shaken but swiftly regained her composure. "Miss Lee, didn't I show you the photo of us..."

"Drugging my Ran and making him sleep beside you won't make you pregnant, Miss Carter."

"How do you…?!" Sophia widened her eyes in disbelief.

How did this seemingly stupid woman know about her flawless plan? Sophia had plotted everything carefully and made sure no one would learn about her scheme yet this woman…

"You want to trick everyone, including my Ran, that both of you had been intimate…" Shuri continued to expose her scheme mercilessly. "You can't trust that the drug would keep him unconscious, so you didn't dare to touch him more than what was necessary, fearing he might wake up halfway through the act, ain't that right, Miss Carter?"

Sophia shot up from her seat and widened her eyes in shock. "You…"

For the first time, Sophia felt fear as she looked into Shuri's eyes, which seemed to peer into her very soul.

"Wh-Who are you?!"

Shuri slowly got up from her seat to face Sophia, her voice carrying weight, "Miss Carter, unlike you, my Ran has such a lovely, pure soul. I can't forgive you for trying to stain him with your disgusting one."

Sophia's anxiety quickly turned into anger at Shuri's insult. "So what if you can't forgive me? I don't know how you learn about my scheme, but you can't do anything to me!"

"Don't make me see deeper into you, Miss Carter." As Shuri spoke, she locked her gaze onto Sophia's eyes.

Sophia shivered slightly under Shuri's watchful gaze, the same gaze that had pressured her moments earlier.

"Stay away from my Ran," Shuri warned in a serious tone. "If you try to hurt him again, I'll make sure to dig into all your other secrets and let everyone know the real you."

"Ho-How dare you…!" Sophia's voice trembled as her fear slowly turned to rage.

When confronted with danger, humans typically react with a fight-or-flight response, and as someone who was raised and taught to confront her fear head-on, Sophia grabbed the cup from the table, ready to throw it at Shuri.

She was determined to blind those hateful eyes so that they would never gaze at her in such a despicable manner again!
