Chapter 3 - System

Fang Yuan spent the next hour or so trying to find what caused such attraction to him on this item, but no matter how much he searched for a clue, he couldn't find anything special about this golden case.

Whether it was its material, or its empty interior, it was completely ordinary.

"Is it an illusion?", Fang Yuan thought and inexplicably disappointed, he pushed the vase aside and let it sit at the edge of the counter.

Then, he sat down on his chair and leaned back, ready to close his eyes and return to sleep.

He wanted to see if he would have the same nightmare again and if he would be able to remember its contents this time.

Fang Yuan had always been a person with a strong curiosity, and the fact that he experienced the same exact dream every day for a month straight made him want to further explore this strange nightmare.

"Ding, ding, ding!"

Just then, the bell on the shop's door suddenly rang, making him slightly annoyed.

Following the bell's ring, the door of the shop opened and a young woman stepped inside in a hurry.

The woman was in her early twenties and had short brown hair that reached her shoulders, while her eyes were golden and contained a hint of immaturity.

She was wearing thick clothes to prevent herself from feeling cold, but because of her low height, she looked a little funny when dressed like this.

Her cheeks were red and she was gasping for air, looking like she had been running for quite some time.

"Boss! I'm really sorry for being late! I swear that it will never happen again!", Luo Li looked at Fang Yuan with teary eyes and said, and her voice trembling from the fatigue and her nervousness.

Fortunately, Fang Yuan didn't reprimand her for being late but just nodded his head slightly: "It's okay, but I'll have to deduct a bronze coin out of your salary for this month."

Hearing these words, the nervousness in Luo Li's eyes lessened and she breathed a sigh of relief.

Even though losing one bronze coin would put her in a tough financial position, it was at least better than being fired and having to searcg for a new job again.

Moreover, even if she was lucky to find one, it was unlikely that she would be paid as much.

"Thank you boss! You're the best!", Luo Li said happily and after the two exchanged a few more words, she walked to the corner of the shop and picked up a wooden bucket and a rag that were sitting inside a closet.

Soon, she started cleaning the various antiques in the shop with the rag in her hand, cleaning up the dust that had accumulated on them.

There were all types of antiques in the shop, ranging from ancient paintings to broken mirrors, keys and other personal or not items.

Even so, Luo Li's actions were quite meticulous and she was obviously very familiar with most of the items on the shop.

With the arrival of Luo LI, Fang Yuan was no longer in the mood to sleep.

Since he had nothing better to do and it was unlikely that a customer would come, he started thinking about his next plans and the future of this little shop.

This shop was left behind by his missing parents and was located at the Oak Town, a small town in a relatively remote place with a population of a few thousand people.

Most of the people in the town worked as farmers or craftsmen and very few people had the ability and wealth to open a shop.

Although Fang Yuan's antique shop didn't seem to be anything impressive and it would be overlooked in the modern era, it was in fact enough for Fang Yuan to be considered an upper-class person in the Oak Town.

"Fortunately, I'm quite lucky in this life and I have 'wealthy' parents. As long as I continue operating this shop, there won't be any issue with surviving for the most part."

Even though Fang Yuan was a reincarnated person, he wasn't too ambitious and didn't hold any expectation that he would change the world.

To be more accurate, it wasn't that he wasn't ambitious, but just felt that it was not worth the effort.

No matter how much money and status he obtained, life in this era would still be tough regardless.

If he had to work hard in order to survive in this life too, Fang Yuan would have to wonder whether reincarnating was actually worth it.

Time went by slowly and while Fang Yuan was deep in thought, Lin Luo continued wiping the antiques with the wet rag in her hand.

Not long after, she was finally done cleaning and was about to put the rag down, when she suddenly noticed a golden vase sitting at the wooden counter.

Lin Luo wasn't too surprised by this new addition to the antique shop's collection, as she knew that from time to time, people would visit the shop to sell their ancestor's belongings for a few bronze coins.

Even though this seemed to be a little wasteful and unfilial, there were many people in this era that were struggling to survive and had difficulty putting food on their plate.

For these people, holding onto their ancestor's belongings was useless.

Even if they were accused of being unfilial, they wouldn't care but would proudly admit it.

Shaking her head to suppress these thoughts, Lin Luo walked to the counter and leaned her body forward, and started wiping the vase as she whistled.

However, out of nowhere, she slipped on her feet, causing her fingers to unintentionally touch the vase and push it over the counter's edge.

In shock, Lin Luo tried to catch it in the air, but her efforts were to no avail.

"Crash!"

The sound of ceramic shattering interrupted Fang Yuan's thoughts and woke him up.

When he raised his head to see what happened, he discovered an embarrassed Lin Luo and a bunch of ceramic shards that were everywhere on the floor.

Feeling his eyes landing on her, Lin Luo became nervous.

"Boss! I'm sorry! Just deduct it from my salary! Please don't fire me!", she spoke quickly and her eyes turned red, looking like she was about to cry.

However, Fang Yuan didn't give her an answer, but his eyes focused on the broken vase on the floor.

Jumping up from the chair, Fang Yuan leaned down and rummaged through the remains, following the instincts of his body.

Soon, he discovered a folded piece of paper hidden among these pieces.

The paper was yellow and its appearance made it very obvious that it had existed for a long time.

Fang Yuan's hands moved on their own and he quickly unfolded it.

There were many words written with black ink on the paper, but unfortunately, most of the words had been erased by time because of its old age.

Only two words were barely recognizable: "animals" and "boxing".

However, Fang Yuan didn't have the time to pay attention to these words, let alone understand their meaning.

The moment he unfolded the yellow page, the feeling of attraction that guided him disappeared and a weird cold energy poured from the paper into his hands and then flowed to the rest of his body.

Fang Yuan was shocked by this sudden change, but the thing that happened next shocked him even more.

In his field of vision, two strings of semi-transparent words appeared and flashed continuously.

[Life Item has been detected...]

[System has been activated...]

The moment Fang Yuan read those words, many pieces of information poured right into his mind and he felt as if his brain was about to burst.

Gritting his teeth, he bore the pain and his entire focus turned on digesting this information, trying to prevent himself from fainting.
