With a chuckle, Kai slipped out of the bed, leaving the mewling Astrid behind.
It was time for him to officially start the day.
With a confident stride, he made his way to the suite's bathroom.
On one side was the bath, looking more like it belonged in the home of a billionaire than a student's room.
But that was a school of the elite for you. They certainly don't skimp on the luxuries.
Besides, His mind went to Kai's memories of the Velroth mansion, when you grow up as a noble, this is normal.
He turned away from the bath that likely cost more than the home of some peasants and walked to what looked like a shower head.
Standing under it, he saw that it was indeed a shower head. Looking around, he quickly found the knob to turn it on and off.
This world certainly doesn't have a lot of modern amenities but they'd definitely managed to figure out plumbing.
From his memories, the progress had happened after a previous king had massacred the hundreds of servants in the palace because he believed they'd divined secrets in his waste.
Necessity really was the mother of invention. The need not to lose one's head.
What if he'd transmigrated in a world where he'd have to do the deed in a chamber pot and have a servant wheel it away.
He quickly retrieved soap from nearby and began bathing, enjoying the familiar filling of warm water running down his back.
He relaxed as steam wafted off him, letting his thoughts drift.
This place really is something else. He mused.
The memory of yesterday's test flickered through his mind.
If he'd faced a direwolf and not gotten into the first tier, he'd eventually be okay with it but he'd have definitely flipped off.
Killing direwolves wasn't something any ordinary person could do. They'd only been able to do it because Kai was a master swordsman and Arlo had to be a genius brawler or something.
Talent did run through noble bloodlines.
Kai took his time, enjoying one of the few things he loved about earth.
By the time he was done, the air around him was thick with steam, and his skin tingled with renewed energy.
Wrapping a towel around his waist, he returned to the bedroom.
Astrid was lucid now, sitting up and stretching gracefully.
She caught sight of him and smiled, her cheeks faintly pink. "Good morning once again, master Kai."
"Morning." Kai replied, flashing her a grin.
"Your turn now." He gestured towards the bathroom. "Go take your bath before the day gets away from us."
Astrid arched a brow but obeyed, slipping out of bed and gathering her uniform.
She hesitated briefly before heading to the bathroom, casting a quick glance back at him.
Kai chuckled to himself as he watched her go, shaking his head.
Left alone, he turned his attention to the tray that Astrid had brought earlier.
He carried it into the sitting room adjoining his quarters, the space provided for the tier 1 student's visitors and private meals.
He settled into a comfortable chair, pouring himself a cup of tea before helping himself to a flaky pastry.
As he ate, he let his thoughts wander to what he'd do with the free day.
He'd have to find Arlo. The lazy bastard was likely still asleep, but Kai figured it was time they explored the academy properly.
From what he remembered of Kai's memories of arriving, the academy was built on a sizable estate.
There was no way he was going to waste his first free day cooped up without looking around.
When the tray was nearly empty, Kai heard the soft sound of footsteps approaching.
He glanced up to see Astrid entering, fully dressed and looking as impeccable as ever. Her violet eyes sparkled as she gave him a small curtsy.
"Ready for the day, young master?" She asked, her tone light.
Kai nodded, standing and stretching. "I am. Let's get me dressed."
*****
The corridors of Mythreach Academy buzzed with activity as Kai roamed through the halls.
On every door was a name tag indicating the student the suite belonged to.
He could see several students, some freshmen like him and others, juniors and seniors, hurrying past.
Every corner of the academy was alive with purpose and not always empty for long. There was always someone coming and going.
Kai took his time, taking in the sights and nodding politely to those who greeted him.
Eventually, he arrived at his destination.
Arlo's suite was tucked into one of the quieter wings of the first-tier section.
Kai reached the door and knocked, waiting for a response. When none came, he knocked again, louder this time.
"Arlo!" He called, leaning closer to the door. Still nothing.
With a sigh, he pushed the door open.
The suite was a mirror of his own, though less tidy.
Clothes and books were scattered haphazardly across the furniture, and the faint sound of snoring drifted from the bedroom.
Kai made his way to the bedroom, finding Arlo sprawled across the bed, half-covered by a blanket.
The curtains were drawn tight, leaving the room dim and stuffy.
He smirked, stepping over to the window and yanking the curtains open dramatically.
"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!" He cheered, the sunlight pouring in.
Arlo groaned, rolling over to bury his face in the pillow.
"Go away, Kai." He mumbled, his voice muffled. "It's too early for this."
Kai crossed his arms, leaning against the windowsill. "It's never too early to explore the most prestigious magic academy in the kingdom."
Arlo responded by flipping him the bird.
"Come on. You're not going to spend the whole day in bed, are you?"
"That's the plan." Arlo muttered, peeking out from under the blanket with one eye. "You go ahead. I'm staying right here."
Kai sighed dramatically. "You're hopeless."
Arlo grinned faintly, pulling the blanket back over his head. "And proud of it. Have fun, Kai. Let me know if you find anything interesting."
Realizing that coaxing Arlo out of bed was a lost cause, Kai shook his head and turned to leave.
"Suit yourself." He said over his shoulder. "But don't blame me when I find all the good spots and sexy babes without you."
Mythreach Academy, here I come!
