The low sobbing of the little girl drew my attention and I checked up on her. She had bruises on her legs and arms. I tried approaching her but she only screamed and crawled away in fear. Seeing this, I dropped all my weapons, showing that I was not a threat to her, even the she refused to come any closer but her screaming had stopped. Her eyes were swollen from the tears and her white hair and skin stained with dirt. I heard her stomach growl and got an idea. I checked in a small pouch I always carried with me for some bread and found some. I gently placed it before her and stepped back, hoping she would at least eat.
She watched the bread for a moment, her gaze alternating between it and I . After a while, she launched at the bread, ravaging it. For some reason I let out a smile as I watched her. She stared at me for a while after eating, her blue eyes almost putting me into a trance.
"What is your name?" I asked her.
She said nothing, her gaze not wavering from me. I noticed her hand trembling despite how hard she tried to hide them. She still didn't trust me.
I let out a sigh and decided to leave.
"Frey" she said, as I tried standing.
"Frey? I said in a soft voice sitting back down, "that's a nice name. I am Mason"
She said nothing, her body language however was now a bit more relaxed. Her arms had stopped trembling and her breathing was now steady.
"There's a camp nearby, would you let me take you there for medical attention?" I asked.
She crawled back, her gaze not leaving me.
"Don't worry, we won't harm you. I promise on my pride as a warrior." I said.
That seemed to have convinced her as she nodded at me. I stood up and approached her slowly and carefully, not looking to frighten her anymore. She leaned away from me as I stretched my arm to her, her eyes widened in fear like she expected something bad to happen. I grabbed her gently and lifted her up, her body tensed up at my touch.
"You can't walk with all those bruises." I said, a soft smile curling on my lips. Her eyes relaxed and her body loosened after my words. She held on to my armor, closing her eyes as I carried her back to camp.
Moments Later
An explosion rocked the camp, sending waves of wind through the forest, the smell of charred flesh and wood filled the air. I stood in shock at the sight before me, my armor shattered, my eyes widened in disbelief . The large camp once littered with soldiers now lay in ruins, nothing but black ash and burnt bodies around.
"Forgive me." A soft voice said, filled with regret and pity.
I glanced at the sky to find Frey, the little girl I had saved floating above, her body engulfed in flames yet she was not harmed. She did this, she killed everyone-no I did it, I brought her to the camp, I brought an emperor into our home base. My knees buckled under me as I dropped to the floor, unable to speak, overwhelmed by shock.
"Solar flare." Her voice echoed, a massive ball of fire formed above her head, it's heat distorting the air around. It gradually began moving towards me, it's mass casting a massive shadow over me.
"What have I done?" I thought to myself. "Father…..Code…..My brothers in arms all fallen because I brought her back."
I closed my eyes as guilt washed over me, I had accepted my fate, i deserved to die, I could blame no one but myself…..
"Where is your pride?" Sango's voice boomed through my mind. I heard the sound of drums beating, warriors chanting and dancing, energy surged through my body like lightning, following the beat of the drums. My rage burnt like fire. I felt myself let go as the fireball hit me, raising a large cloud of dust. I felt my skin burn and I could have sworn I disintegrated for a moment.
"Where is your pride warrior?" Sango's voice boomed again, this time I felt the energy around me get absorbed. My eyes opened to find myself crackling with lightning, flames blazing through my armor.
"Go warrior," His voice echoed in my head like music, drums beating in the background, "avenge your fallen brothers."
I immediately locked eyes with Frey, my fists clenched in rage and I felt my power run wild. I let out a scream and charged at her, shooting myself up with great force. With my fists folded, I threw a punch, my body moving by instinct. Lightning surged through my body and into my hands, causing a devastating strike. She was too surprised to evade, her mind unable to register what she was seeing.
The force from my punch sent her crashing into the ground, she smashed into the earth, creating a large crater on impact. Swiftly she stood up, flames covering her like a shield, her eyes glowing as she summoned another attack.
"Sunburst Lance." She called, a large glowing spear appeared out of thin air, it's body engulfed in flames. In one swift gesture, she shot it at me , it's force kicking up a huge cloud of dust. I dodged the spear, by an inch of my hair before grabbing it and sending it back at her.
Her eyes widened in shock at the sudden counter, she crossed her arms, bracing for impact. A large explosion shattered the sound barrier as she is sent flying backwards.
"Amplify." I yelled out a command, not having what it meant.
I had lost myself to rage, I charged her not minding anything, I had no tactic, no plan, just the thought of ending her life. I dropped on her, a large bolt of lightning following behind. The loud rumble of thunder accompanied me.
I pinned her down, my knees on her abdomen. My blade crackled with lightning as I placed it next to her neck, my breathe heavy, rage filled me and my hands trembled violently. I was about to slit her throat when I saw her eyes, they gleamed with innocence, filled with sorrow and sadness. I felt my rage begin to subside as I stared into her eyes. It was as though she was pleading for help, pleading to be released from something beyond me.
Her flames began to die down, slowly estinguishing as tears rolled down her cheeks. I felt her body tremble under my knees,
"I never wanted this." She said, barely able to mutter the words out.
I tried to stay angry, tried to carry out my resolve but I couldn't. Her words, her tears quenched my rage. I loosened my grip around my blade, raised my knees off her and fell by her side.
"Why?" I asked, "Why did you do this?" My voice trembling in sorrow as I lay beside her.
"I have no choice," she began, "I have no control over my abilities, no control over when I'm awakened, that's all in his hands." Her voice shook as she spoke, she was terrified.
"Who?" I asked, looking for who to pour the rage I was stuck with on.
She went silent at my question, holding her breath in fear for a moment.
"Baron Faux." She whispered, her breath trembling…..
