Chapter 2 - Why?

Wei Sucha opened the door and entered as silently as he could. He then made his way to the kitchen. It was almost lunch time, his aunt would usually be in the kitchen preparing the food.

Just like he had expected, a middle-aged woman with long black hair and normal clothing was preparing something. Wei Sucha smiled lightly and cleared his throat to get her attention.

His aunt turned around and smiled back at him, "So, how did it go?" She asked first. Wei Sucha raised the stitched bag in his hands with a chuckle.

His aunt sighed in relief and grinned, "Hehe! Congratulations Wei, you have turned 16... And yes yes, I know it's not until night, but whatever, the city already recognizes you as an adult now!"

Wei Sucha nodded his head back, "I get it yeah... My father left me... Quite a few things." The young man replied as he made his way toward his aunt.

He first gave her a big hug and then showed her the money inside the bag. His aunt almost couldn't believe her eyes.

"This is... This is a lot! I never knew that Wei Ran had such a treasure hidden away!" She exclaimed in surprise.

"Well... I know I've never really asked, but... What kind of person was he? Was he a Cultivator?"

"Oh? Where are these questions coming from all of a sudden? Does someone wanna become a Cultivator now that they became an adult?"

"Haha!" Wei Sucha laughed in reply, and his aunt smiled. She sighed lightly in relief and then turned to finish preparing the food as she said, "Go get your Uncle, lunch is done, let's eat together."

Wei Sucha nodded and left the kitchen fast. The blacksmith shop was located in the garage of the house. Even though they were mostly poor, the house his father had left for them was quite spacious.

They had thought about selling it a few times, but in the end decided against doing so. Even though Wei Sucha had told again and again that the house didn't hold much value to him, they still said that it was important.

'I don't know why, but very recently, I've become a little intrested in father... Okay, I think I know why, it's because of the inheritance.'

'Before now, I just thought that he abandoned me and refused to listen or hear anything about him... Do I hate him? I wouldn't say so, but do I dislike him? I think I probably do, but I'm not fully sure... At least, not anymore.'

'Now that I found out he's left me this much money... I don't know, this doesn't feel normal to me. I mean, why would he leave me with this much if he didn't care? My mom was already dead by that point, so it's not like he did it for her.'

'And this was left just for me, so it's not like he left it for my aunt and Uncle... Did he believe they would throw me out as soon as I turned into an adult?'

By law, it was forbidden to throw a child out, even if you hated them. If you were related to them in any such way, you needed to take care of them until they turned into an adult, which was considered to be at the age of 16.

That would mean, if Wei Sucha's aunt and uncle disliked him, they would still have to raise him until he turned 16 and then throw him out, but that obviously wasn't the case here.

'There are so many questions I have about him... And it's only now that I care at all to ask... I just hope to God that both aunt and uncle know at least a few things about him.'

The young man reached the workshop in a few minutes and knocked on the door, his uncle lifted his head from a sword he was inspecting.

"Oh, Wei! You've made it back already I see... So then, what happened? Did they give you anything of note? A letter? A sword? Money? You know, something at least!"

Wei Sucha repeated the same motion from earlier, he lifted the bag and smiled at his uncle in the process. His Uncle didn't seem to catch on immediately.

"You're smiling... Am I to assume it's money then?"

"What else could it be if not?"

"I don't know, a pill or something."

"Fine fine! You're such an overthinker uncle!" Chuckled Wei Sucha as he came closer. His uncle gave him a small slap on the head, "Don't talk like that to me young boy... Anyways, what are you here for?"

"Food."

"Food?"

"Food!"

His uncle put down the sword and breathed a sigh of relief, "Food!" He nodded his head in reply. The two exploded in laughter as they made their way toward the living room.

On the way there, Wei Sucha told his uncle about the amount his father had left him, but also mentioned the letter and strange token.

"That is... I was about to curse in shock, but no no! Wei always says, no cursing!" His uncle nodded with a smile.

"Good good!" Wei Sucha nodded back.

"A letter huh? Interesting, and a token you say?"

Wei Sucha passed his the red token. After inspecting it for a while, his uncle gave it back and shrugged his shoulders, "I have no idea what that thing is or means honestly."

"Was my father a Cultivator?" Wei Sucha asked.

His uncle stopped walking for a moment and gave him a very serious look, something he rarely did, "I'll tell you everything I know about your father after lunch, how does that sound?"

Wei Sucha agreed, and the two reached the living room. His aunt had already prepared the food, the two of them sat down and started eating after praising God's name.

As they ate, they laughed and discussed many things. The topic of marriage was brought up and Wei Sucha's cheeks became a little red.

His aunt wanted him to get married soon, she already had a few candidates in mind it seemed, while his uncle seemed to differ in opinion.

"If he's to join a school and learn how to be a Cultivator, it'll be hard for him to focus on marriage at the moment."

He then added, "I think it's best if he waits until he reaches the Second Rank or something before even considering the opition of marriage."

His aunt shook her head in reply, "He can train and find a wife at the same time. He's at an appropriate age for marriage, not only that, but he just got the money needed to support both a wife and his training bills."

The uncle replied in the next second, "I can see what you mean by that, but that also means he won't be as serious about practicing cultivation. If he's to achieve something, he needs to focus only Cultivation solely."

"Well, who says he wants to become a Cultivator?" The aunt replied.

"Why wouldn't he? If he doesn't, what else is he gonna do? Become a blacksmith like me? What will that do to him? He'll have to work day and night every day, sacrificing his whole life to barely afford normal living conditions... Who wants that? Who wants to live like that?"

His uncle continued, "He has an entire life ahead of him, and if God wills it and he trains hard enough, he can maybe even reach the third or fourth Realm of Cultivation!"

The aunt was just about to reply when Wei Sucha stepped into the conversation before it became another fight again.

This was a common topic the two argued about almost daily now, especially ever since his 16th birthday got close.

"Uncle, Aunt, please, don't fight over this... I will decide what I do with my life going forward. And before that, I think what you tell me about my father will help me make a better decision."

At the mention of his father, both of them turned a little serious. "How come you want to know about him when you've never asked before?" His aunt questioned.

"I remember telling you his name before and you put your hands in your ears saying you didn't wanna know anything about him." His uncle added from the side.

"It's because of the inheritance he left for me... I wanna know something... Why? Why did he leave me? And why did he leave this for me?"
