Chereads / Dragon Ball: I Am Broly / Chapter 22 - Meeting Frieza

Chapter 22 - Meeting Frieza

And so, the group of four, led by Sorbet, headed toward the castle where Freezer resided.

Along the way, Sorbet couldn't stop complaining.

He feared this situation might affect the impression Freezer had of his efficiency.

As a result, it could jeopardize his position within Freezer's forces.

Finally, he decided that Broly should carry the other three and fly to shorten the travel time.

Broly, showing no objection, picked up Cheelai, Lemo, and Lepa, enveloped them in his Ki, and lifted them effortlessly. In mere minutes, they had reached the castle.

Freezer's castle was impressive, a futuristic white design reflecting advanced technology.

It was heavily guarded by soldiers, all armed.

Sorbet led the group inside, opening doors and walking through corridors without encountering any obstacles. Finally, they arrived at the reception hall.

There, Broly finally saw Freezer.

The galactic emperor had his back to the door, seated in his iconic floating vehicle. From his position, he gazed through a large window offering a breathtaking view of outer space.

Frieza tail hung outside the vehicle, swaying lazily. He was in his base form but radiated a Ki that Broly had never seen before.

At that moment, Frieza had just finished his four months of training after being resurrected.

"Lord Frieza, Broly has arrived."

Sorbet stepped forward, bowing deeply.

Cheelai, Lemo, and Lepa were visibly nervous.

Cheelai, who had never seen Freezer in person and only knew him through rumors, felt a knot in her stomach.

Lemo and Lepa, although they had seen Frieza before, had always done so from a safe distance. Being this close to him now was an entirely different experience.

It was impossible not to feel overwhelmed.

After all, they were in the presence of the Emperor of Evil, the supreme commander of Frieza forces. The boss of all bosses in a hierarchy they could barely comprehend.

But Broly was different.

He observed Frieza with a calm expression. There wasn't a trace of fear on his face. On the contrary, he looked at him with interest, studying him.

In his previous life, Freezer was one of the most famous—or perhaps the most famous—villain in the Dragon Ball franchise. Among anime's most iconic antagonists, Frieza always held a prominent place.

Now, seeing him in person was… surreal.

"Ho, ho, ho~ Sorbet, is this Broly?" Frieza slowly turned his floating vehicle.

"Yes, my lord," replied Sorbet, placing a hand on his chest and bowing slightly.

A faint smile appeared on Freezer's lips as he observed Broly from head to toe.

His crimson eyes sparkled with growing interest as he examined him.

Broly's appearance, with his attire, reminded Freezer of a savage from the past. However, for someone like Frieza, such superficial details were insignificant. What truly mattered was what his instincts screamed at him: the being before him concealed immense, terrifying power.

Even that overwhelming energy surprised him.

After all, no matter how it was viewed, Broly was still in his base form.

"Ho, ho, ho~" Frieza let out a soft laugh, his eyes narrowing with delight. "This level of power… is truly impressive. It seems I haven't been lied to."

Despite his tone, there was an implicit threat in every word.

Freezer tilted his head slightly, still smiling as his piercing gaze fixed on Broly.

"Tell me, Broly… are you not afraid of me?"

"No," Broly replied with his usual calm.

"…"

For an instant, the air in the room seemed to grow heavier. Sorbet's pupils contracted, and his hands trembled slightly before he managed to steady them. Cheelai, Lemo, and Lepa exchanged panicked glances, clearly terrified that Broly had crossed a dangerous line.

The three tried to convey with their eyes: Be careful what you say! This is Frieza!

However, Frieza didn't seem upset.

On the contrary, his smile widened, revealing a glint of his sharp teeth. His laughter echoed, sending chills down their spines.

"Ho, ho, ho! Not being afraid… that's good," his voice was almost seductive. "Only someone who doesn't fear me can prove they're truly powerful."

Sorbet's shoulders relaxed, and Cheelai and the others let out a sigh of relief.

Frieza turned slightly and continued, "Everyone involved in bringing Broly here will receive generous rewards. Sorbet, handle it."

"Understood, Lord Frieza!" Sorbet responded with a respectful bow.

He then turned to Cheelai, Lemo, and Lepa, gesturing for them to follow him.

"Come with me."

The three nodded quickly, trying to contain their excitement.

Although they wanted to jump and celebrate inwardly, Frieza presence kept them subdued. They could only bow and repeatedly thank him.

As they left, Cheelai, with her usual cheekiness, couldn't resist winking at Broly before following Sorbet.

Soon, the large reception hall was empty.

Only Broly and Frieza remained.

The galactic emperor gazed calmly out the massive window that displayed the vastness of outer space.

"Broly, from now on, stay by my side," he said in his elegant tone, laced with authority.

Broly narrowed his eyes slightly before nodding. "...Mmm."

It seemed Freezer hadn't recognized his Saiyan origin.

Perhaps it was because his tail had been severed as a child, or maybe the pursuit of Lemo and Cheelai by monsters upon their arrival on the planet had distracted from any connection between Broly and Paragus.

Besides, aside from their tails and a few specific traits, Saiyans didn't differ much from humans in appearance.

It wasn't strange that Frieza hadn't identified him as one of them.

While he pondered this, the topic abruptly shifted.

"When are we going to Earth?"

Freezer turned to look at him, his eyes gleaming with interest.

A smile appeared on his face. "Very soon… very soon."

"Seems like you're in a hurry. Tell me, dear Broly, do you have unfinished business with the Earthlings?"

Frieza appeared indifferent to the fact that Broly didn't address him with any honorifics. Perhaps, in his mind, someone with such extraordinary power deserved some leniency in that regard.

Broly shook his head. "No, I just want to fight."

"Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho!"

Frieza laughter echoed through the hall as he covered his mouth with his hand. "I didn't expect that response…"

He observed him closely, his eyes narrowing.

"You resemble a race I exterminated long ago…"

Race?

Broly didn't respond.

Noting his silence, Frieza smile widened further. "Do you need me to be your training partner?"

"…"

Broly evaluated the proposal.

It was obvious that Frieza had noticed his immense potential. Perhaps he saw him as a tool to face Goku and Vegeta in the future.

After a few moments of thought, Broly replied calmly, "If you're willing."

"Of course, I'm willing." Frieza seemed delighted with the idea. "Training a powerful subordinate is one of my greatest pleasures. I hope you can surprise me."

Broly nodded slightly.

Surprise? What awaits you will be more of a fright.

He didn't plan to reveal his true identity as a Saiyan before reaching Earth, nor did he intend to use his transformation.

However, even in his base form, he was more than capable of crushing Freezer in his normal state.

After all, his base strength far surpassed Goku and Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue levels.

Well, not yet.

But it would only take one fight to get there.

And at this point in the story, Freezer's base form was barely comparable to Goku's in his base form.

As for Golden Frieza?

There was no way Freezer would use his golden transformation just for training.

Absolutely impossible.
