The labyrinth's air was heavier than ever, the shattered obelisk's remains casting faint glimmers in the dim light. Alaric examined the glowing crystal in his hand, the Fragment of the Labyrinth's Core pulsating gently, a promise of power and answers yet unseen. The scavengers looked to him with a mix of awe and cautious hope.
"We've taken out a critical piece of the labyrinth's defenses," Alaric said, his voice steady. "But that also means whatever's controlling this place won't take us lightly anymore."
Krag grunted in agreement, slinging his weapon over his shoulder. "We're not exactly lightweights either. What's the next move?"
Alaric turned to the Heart of the Labyrinth, still cradled in his skeletal hand. He could feel the artifact's connection to the labyrinth deepening, threads of control extending into pathways, traps, and even the remaining constructs. A sudden surge of intuition struck him as the Heart pulsed with guidance.
System Alert: Hidden Pathway Revealed.
Location: Subterranean Artery Beneath Current Coordinates.
"There's a hidden path," Alaric announced. "It runs beneath us. If we follow it, we might find the source of the labyrinth's power—or at least more clues about its true nature."
Lira frowned, her wiry frame tense. "And if it's another death trap?"
"Then we survive it," Alaric replied simply, his glowing eyes meeting hers. "We've come too far to turn back now."
Descending to the Artery
Using the Heart's guidance, Alaric located a narrow shaft concealed behind a crumbling wall. The scavengers worked together to clear the debris, revealing a spiraling staircase carved from smooth, black stone. A faint, otherworldly hum emanated from the depths below.
"It's almost alive," Krag muttered, running a hand along the wall. The surface felt warm and pulsed faintly beneath his touch, as though responding to his presence.
"Stay close," Alaric warned, leading the way. The light from the Heart illuminated their descent, casting eerie shadows that danced across the walls.
The staircase wound downward for what felt like hours, the air growing colder with each step. Finally, they emerged into a vast underground chamber, its ceiling lost in darkness. A river of luminous liquid flowed through the center, casting an ethereal glow that lit the room.
"What is this place?" Lira whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the river.

Warning: Presence of Hostile Entities Detected.
"An energy source," Alaric said. "And it's guarded."
The Liquid Guardians
As they approached the glowing river, ripples spread across its surface. The liquid began to rise, coalescing into humanoid forms that shimmered with an inner light. The figures had no distinct features, their movements fluid yet purposeful.
"Liquid constructs," Alaric muttered. "They're likely linked to the river itself. Be ready for anything."
The constructs advanced silently, their forms shifting and flowing as they moved. Krag let out a battle cry and charged, his weapon cleaving through one of the figures. The construct split apart but reformed instantly, its body shimmering with renewed energy.
"They're regenerating!" Lira shouted, hurling a dagger that passed harmlessly through another construct.
Alaric stepped forward, raising the Heart of the Labyrinth. The artifact pulsed, and tendrils of energy shot out, wrapping around one of the constructs. The liquid form trembled, its glow dimming before it collapsed back into the river.
Observation: Constructs Can Be Neutralized by Disrupting Their Core Energy Signature.
"Aim for their cores," Alaric instructed. "Disrupt their connection to the river."
The scavengers adjusted their tactics, focusing on precise strikes. Alaric used the Heart to manipulate the battlefield, creating barriers of stone to funnel the constructs and limit their movements. Slowly but surely, the group gained the upper hand.
Crossing the River
With the constructs defeated, the group approached the river cautiously. The liquid's glow was hypnotic, and Alaric could feel its energy pulsing in rhythm with the Heart of the Labyrinth.
"We need to cross it," Alaric said. "But we can't touch it directly. Its energy would overwhelm us."
"Any bright ideas?" Krag asked, eyeing the river warily.
Alaric focused on the Heart, willing it to interact with the river. The artifact pulsed, and a section of the liquid began to solidify, forming a narrow bridge. The scavengers exchanged uneasy glances before stepping onto the glowing pathway.
The crossing was tense, the group moving carefully to avoid disturbing the unstable bridge. Halfway across, the river surged, and new constructs began to rise. Alaric acted quickly, using the Heart to reinforce the bridge and summon spikes of stone to deter the attackers. The scavengers hurried to the other side, narrowly avoiding the constructs' grasp.
A Door of Light
On the far side of the river, the group found themselves before a massive door made of shimmering light. Intricate symbols danced across its surface, shifting and rearranging in a mesmerizing pattern.
"This must be the way forward," Alaric said, studying the door. The Heart of the Labyrinth reacted to its presence, glowing brighter as he approached.
System Alert: Door Requires Activation Key—Fragment of the Labyrinth's Core Detected.
Alaric held up the Fragment of the Core. The symbols on the door aligned, and the light intensified, engulfing the group. When the light faded, they found themselves in a new chamber, its walls covered in pulsating veins of energy.
"We've stepped deeper into the labyrinth," Alaric said, his voice filled with both wonder and caution. "And whatever lies ahead will test us even further."
