Chapter Five: Omniscient God's Eye
The moment the group of individuals heard the middle-aged administrator's declaration, dread overtook their hearts and they despaired.
They trembled from head to toe, some even stumbling backward, their faces twisted in horror.
But the hovering man wasn't finished. His voice boomed once more, laced with a frightening killing intent.
"Not only did you doubt my ability to supervise this ceremony by defaming Mr. Nightfall, but you even dared to slander him in such treacherous ways! Good, good. You clearly don't respect me. It seems I've been far too lenient with you all. Now… DIE!"
Suddenly, a greatsword appeared in the man's hand, and the temperature in the room plummeted, sending shivers down everyone's spines.
"S-sir, I'm sorry. Please… please forgive me."
"Sir, please forgive us."
"Have mercy!"
Terrified, the individuals cried out for forgiveness as the greatsword fell with unwavering finality.
Immense regret washed over them, threatening to overwhelm their senses as they awaited their inevitable end.
But just as the situation seemed hopeless, a calm voice broke through, bringing a sliver of hope to the desperate crowd.
"Mr. Stone. If you don't mind, please spare them on my behalf."
In an instant, the greatsword stopped mere centimeters above the heads of the helplessly sprawled individuals.
Wrinkling his nose slightly, the middle-aged man frowned in anger and turned toward the source of the voice, his gaze searching for the speaker. Despite his high cultivation base, he had detected nothing.
What he saw made his eyes widen in shock and horror. Before him stood an obscure figure shrouded in a black cloak. Though the man's face was hidden and his presence was nearly negligible, the administrator's expression hardened the moment his gaze locked onto this assassin.
---
As the cloaked figure appeared, Twilight felt a strange power well up within him.
Unbeknownst to everyone, including Twilight himself, his eyes briefly flashed with a faint purple light.
[Activating passive innate ability: Omniscient God's Eye]
[Locking on target…]
[Target locked.]
[Revealing accessible information…]
[Name: Wilson
Race: Human
Potential: C
Cultivation Base: Third Stage Magic Knight
Lucky Information: An old man with assassination as his primary occupation. He once attempted to assassinate the city lord but failed miserably. However, he was later recruited by the city lord as a personal guard.
He hides his face and uses multiple identities to carry out various unscrupulous acts under the city lord's command. Wilson is also known as the Ghostly Blade. When fighting him, beware of his ghost mist, which can devour one's lifeforce entirely.]
In an instant, countless images and fragments of information flashed through Twilight's mind. It felt as if he had witnessed Wilson's actions firsthand.
To his surprise, Twilight also instinctively glimpsed Wilson's future. Though blurred, the vision in his mind showed Wilson being killed by a powerful monster during an invasion of Earth.
'D-damn.' Twilight shivered at the endless possibilities.
Too much information about the cloaked figure had been revealed. Even his cultivation base and potential hadn't been spared.
Although he hadn't activated his innate ability on purpose, it had triggered on its own. What shocked him most was the extraordinary level of detail provided by the Omniscient God's Eye.
If his information had been revealed to such an extent to someone else, he would instantly fly into rage. Yet here was the detailed life of a top-tier assassin at his beck and call.
Still, Twilight had his doubts. What if the information wasn't accurate? Then again, there was an easy way to find out. His eyes gleamed at the thought.
Initially, his time in the pond had been remarkably effortless. He encountered almost no resistance as he advanced through the water, as if the awakening pond itself wanted him to achieve a high-grade potential.
Naturally, Twilight saw no reason to decline such a beneficial opportunity. He absorbed Hope's Essence like a black hole, his fragmented vital core being nourished as messages of his progress flooded his mind.
'Right now, I'm at my sixty-eighth step. Just two more, and I'll be guaranteed an SS-grade potential,' Twilight thought, joy filling his heart.
However, as he crossed the seventieth mark, an uproar erupted from the crowd.
Many expressed disbelief, while a few outright called him a cheater. But what surprised Twilight most was the middle-aged administrator's swift decision to sentence all slanderers to death.
Twilight was stunned but also smug.
'Haha, serves you all right, you unqualified, envious fools,' he thought, though he didn't dare say it aloud.
Weren't they the ones who ridiculed him for being frail and thin? Weren't they the ones who laughed and even placed bets on his failure?
Now they were facing the consequences of their own foolishness, so why should Twilight care for fates? Instead, he prepared to enjoy the show.
But just as the greatsword was about to strike the terrified individuals, a mysterious figure cloaked in black suddenly appeared.
This unexpected arrival immediately activated Twilight's innate ability once more.
Ignoring the standoff between the middle-aged administrator, Mr. Stone, and the assassin known as Ghostly Blade, Twilight summoned his status screen.
[Name: Twilight Nightfall
Potential: Unawakened
Innate Ability: {Omniscient God's Eye}]
Twilight wasn't surprised in the slightest. Without stepping into the first realm of cultivation, a person's status remained severely limited.
Without the privilege of higher cultivation, accessing full information was impossible.
As for his 'potential' stat, the sovereign system would not record it until he left the pond and his results were officially declared by an administrator.
Twilight turned his focus to the innate ability tab. More information revealed itself:
[Innate Ability: {Omniscient God's Eye}
Type: Passive
Description: An all-knowing eye rumored to belong to a god. It unravels all information about the user's target and can perceive anything within a certain range. However, its capabilities depend on the user's strength. Activation is automatic and requires specific conditions to be met.]
'W-wow! So overpowered!' Twilight thought, awe filling him.
