Chapter 1 - The Experimental Hybrid

This chapter is only first person.

"Wakey, Wakey."

My eyes slowly open with the glaring bright light causing my eyes to swell with fluid. Squinting my eyes, I noticed a figure standing above me, it was hard to tell who it was. However, the distinct smell of perfume made it easy to tell it was a female. I could barely make out her figure but she held a needle filled with a strange purple liquid in her blood-stained hands.

"You're finally awake." She seemed grateful that I woke up. "Sorry, I already cut you open and began the surgery."

Surgery? What surgery?! Why is my large intestine in her hands?

I couldn't feel the pain, she must have went through the proper procedures.

"Just go back to sleep for me." Her flirty voice sounded so peaceful with the respirator she placed over my nose and mouth. My vision blurred with my eyelids growing heavier by the second.

....

Hours passed, and my eyes opened wide awake noticing the light that blinded my surroundings was gone. My arms are chains down like I was a beast meant to be kept in a prison.

"Where am I?" My abdomen felt wrong. Looking down to see my shirt missing, I noticed a large scar stitched up from under the chest cavity down to my belly button.

It was strange, I was sleeping in my room. Now I'm stuck like a monster.

Crack!

The sounds of my bones breaking and rearranging in places they shouldn't. Letting out a blood-curdling scream my body shaking violently, this felt like a never-ending course of suffering. My body burning from the sensation of killing pain. I wanted to die at this very moment

I suddenly heard the voice of the weird lady watching me on the other side of the metal bars in amusement. Her midnight waist-length black hair. Her Rust colored eyes showed her intelligence and lust for experimentation.

Desperately crawling to her, the chains only became tighter. There was a dimmed glow of a symbol causing the chains to keep me down. Time went on for hours, my body continued to mutate into something humanoid. I felt stronger, my senses enhanced further than anything, and my teeth hurt from growing fangs.

"The first stage went successful, Carmine." She shared with a tall woman with slick white-pink hair, her violet eyes examining my body. My eyes still reflected the tormenting pain.

The tall woman named Carmine spoke in such an orderly tone, "Very well. Get him painkillers and tomorrow we'll get him started with phase two. We need him ready by the end of August. Surely you understand, Shina." She looked down at the 5'6 female doctor. Carmine's Russian ascent surely gave off a bossy vibe.

"Of course, Carmine." Shina acknowledged opening the cell to my prison. Each step she took it felt like she wasn't scared if I could kill her while being in pain. Taking out a bottle of pills, she crouched down. "Take this, it will help soothe the pain."

I opened my mouth wide, and my fangs themselves revealed. She poured the bottle down. My body was forced to swallow the 20 pills that had entered. The pill was easy to swallow.

"Impressive, I modified these painkillers for you."

Weakly sitting up, I then asked. "What do you mean?"

The corner of her lips curled with excitement. "These aren't your average painkillers if a human took a single pill out of this... Let's just say they would die in a matter of seconds." She shared.

My eyes widened bewildered by the information. If I'm still alive that means I'm not human. "What am I?" I questioned weakly. Using my arm to wipe my eyes, I felt the pain slowly going away.

"You're a Dragon-Human hybrid." She giggled.

I almost laughed, I know dragons don't exist in the real world. Only fictional stories from books.

"Hehe. You're kidding, right?" I could see her smile widen.

"In this world, creatures such as Dragons, Angels, Demons, and even Gods exist. Such things as magic and technology existing within higher dimensional planes of existence could only be possible due to the Sea of Beriah. We as humans, are the weakest creatures in Lyria. We struggle enough with our darkness of war, death, and even greed. My mentor... who's now dead because of the supernatural had an idea. An idea that uses the power of the supernatural against them, borrowing the power of an ancient power of divine revelation called the Sea of Beriah. A power source of infinite power and the source of all-knowing within everything it creates, even us."

The information was shocking but to think I was within one of the many worlds of magic and technology. "That can not be right. Why me?"

"Well let's look at your file." She pulled back her lab coat sleeve slightly revealing a black slim metal bracelet. Tapping the center, a holographic projection appeared in front of her showing the information that she had on me.

"Amir Goch, 18 years old, a boy with no family, no friends. Parents abandoned you when you were only 10 years old. Sold you off to a mafia group, to repay a debt for freedom. And that's it, you're a suitable candidate. Since you have no one to care for you, why go back to a miserable life of suffering when I can make you into something special."

I remained silent, she knew so much about me. I could remember the suffering and torment I went through. Something no child should ever go through. I felt her soft hands caress my head, this was something I missed with my mother.

"I'll become your harbinger and make you the best version of yourself. I'll take care of you and in return, you help me create my mentor's dream." I stared into her eyes and saw the truth she wasn't deceiving me. My mouth opened and a simple word came out. "Yes."

Suddenly the cell glowed a radiant red color, and the back of her right hand glowed red creating a dragon rune on it. As the symbol was completed, the cell returned to its natural gloomy color.

"Let's change the world for the better. My experiment." Her voice soothes in my head. I felt like I could do anything with her around. However, I was unaware of the danger of the idea her mentor had.

...

It's been two days after becoming a "Shifter" from what Shina told me. A shifter is a rare power that allows species to change into their bestial physique. Some still use it, however, it does have a certain drawback they avoid. The shifters can never change back if they lose control of the runs within their bodies or a certain condition must be met.

A Harbinger, are partners that keep the shifters in check, especially in power. From what I have seen from videos, Harbingers with shifters can borrow a certain characteristic ability from the Shifter. This is based on the bond between the Harbinger. This dates back 10,000 years ago Before Eclipse.

I began understanding the world of where I'm in currently. This is the modern age, 21 years ahead. The day was currently August 12th.

My personality changed each time someone other than Shina approached me with a needle. I became more aggressive, snarling, and even snapping at the scientists. I even broke out of my restraints which had powerful runes on them. Magical symbols that are different from spells themselves. To write these runes, one must acquire a certain material within one of the higher planes of existence. The material is called Xerite, a material one can find in the Luminos realm.

I, however, have not been able to shift into a true dragon, although, my body grew scales on most parts of my body. My eyes were a forest green color with slit-like pupils.

"Such a rapid growth, Amir. His physical abilities are accelerated by a significant amount." Shina shared over the wristwatch, showing a holographic image of Carmine.

Carmine then asked with a stern glare. "Any problems with Amir himself?"

"Amir only shows aggression towards everyone but me. He is becoming more dragon-like, the blood-red scales, the fire-breathing, and the amount of energy he possesses from said DNA." Shina looked in the corner of her eye, Amir was inside a cryo pod filled up, the exhilarating blue light showed more of the gleam in his eyes than his scales. He was hooked up to several wires monitoring his health and magical power.

"Despite being within a cryo pod, he can still hear things from outside the laboratory." Shina continued. "I believe that he will be perfect now that I became his Harbinger."

Carmine turned to see the sleeping hybrid within the cryo pod. "Is he okay?"

"He's bathing modified dragon blood, his body seems to be attracted to blood. Whatever bone marrow we extracted the DNA from seemed to be from an ancient dragon that predates the Dragon God Ascension.

"Wasn't that over 458 years ago?" Asked Carmine resting her hand in her hands.

Shina nodded confirming Carmine's question. "All the dragons did die 45 years ago, so whatever dragon had blood-red scales must be very special. Other than that how's the next project coming along? We know the Wolf and her Harbinger and the Demon his Harbinger have been making haste trying to destroy what we're quickly."

Carmine's holographic change shows an image of four people. The first one was the picture of a tanned woman with wolf features, she had a burgundy color wolf-cut hair. She had an ear piercing on her right wolf ear, hers golden like one of the moons in a fantasy. The next image was another Asian female with black curly smooth hair, her red eyes showed passion. Another image was a young male with messy black short hair, his eyes blue like the crystalized sea, he had two horns on the side of his head that represented the sinister demon's power. The last one was a pale female witch with a purple pixie-cut hairstyle, her grape color eyes showed her magical power.

Shina looked back, hearing the dragon snarling calmly. Her lips curled into a wide smile. "Let them, our dragon wants to fight so bad. In two months, Amir will become the strongest creature."

"Very well, I'll be over there in a week to see the progress."

Shina had to nod, even though she knew that Carmine wanted a weapon while Shina wanted a creature to show that her mentor's wishes would come true.

Ending the transmission, Shina approached the cryo pod. Her gaze studying the sleeping dragon bathing in the purple liquid. Placing her hand on it, she could feel the multiple heartbeats within him beating simultaneously.

"Don't worry, Amir. I won't let them terminate you if you become too much for this world. Your world has now become a part of mine... Use this power to change the world. Devour the Guilty and save the innocent whether it is from the gods themselves."

His dragon's eyes slowly opened halfway, the green eyes glowed with her words entering her brain. His objective has been given to him by the person who cares for him. His lips moved slightly muttering a single word.

"...Devour..."
