Fortunately, Ursaring has now woken up from its sleep, and its Ability, Guts, has completely deactivated.
"Scyther, get ready to fight!"
Analyzing the situation, Paul swiftly sent out another Pokémon, one he had captured alongside Kricketune.
"Quick Attack on its leg!"
"Scy!"
The warrior-born Scyther showed no fear as it darted toward the struggling Ursaring, who was trying to get back on its feet. Scyther's sharp scythes slashed at Ursaring's injured leg with blinding speed.
"Graaa!"
Just then, Ursaring shook off the effects of its earlier move. Its glowing arms swung upward, preparing to deliver a devastating Hammer Arm.
"Double Team!"
Scyther's form blurred, splitting into three copies. One clone dissipated as Ursaring struck, but the other two retreated, creating distance.
"Double Team again!"
The remaining Scyther used the move again, creating four duplicates that surrounded Ursaring.
At the center, Ursaring's red-glowing eyes were sharp, having regained clarity after its initial rage. Despite the pain in its leg, Ursaring's gaze darted among the Scyther clones, ready to strike.
"X-Scissor!"
At Paul's command, all four Scyther clones lunged simultaneously, their scythes aimed at Ursaring from every direction.
Ursaring, never known for its speed, found itself at a disadvantage due to its injured leg. Dodging was impossible.
But as Scyther's attack closed in, Ursaring's face twisted into a fierce grin.
The X-Scissor landed!
Boom!
"Scyy!"
Ursaring didn't flinch from the attack. Instead, Scyther was flung backward, screaming in pain before collapsing on the ground, unable to continue.
Paul stared at the fainted Scyther and the faint glow surrounding Ursaring's body.
"Counter..." he muttered.
Counter, a move that returns double the physical damage received, had turned Scyther's powerful attack against it.
The battle had taken its toll on Ursaring. It was breathing heavily, but the fiery determination in its eyes remained undiminished.
"Elekid, you're up!"
Paul tossed out his final Poké Ball.
"Bzzt-bzzt?"
Excited to battle, Elekid prepared to charge in with Brick Break.
But upon seeing the massive Ursaring before it, Elekid froze, stepping back cautiously, its eyes filled with wariness.
Paul spoke calmly, "Don't engage head-on. Use Thunder Wave."
Elekid understood and unleashed a wave of electricity that enveloped Ursaring, causing its massive body to shudder as paralysis set in.
Guts activated!
Attack increased!
Empowered by its Guts ability, Ursaring's eyes glowed brighter as it charged at Elekid with a glowing Hammer Arm.
"Magnet Rise and Quick Attack to evade!"
The paralyzed and injured Ursaring struggled to keep up with Elekid, who deftly floated upward and avoided its attacks.
"Thunderbolt!"
Now in control of the battle, Paul ordered Elekid to strike.
A powerful bolt of lightning crashed down on Ursaring, who roared defiantly, slicing the lightning apart with its claws under the influence of Guts.
But Elekid wasn't idle. It began spinning its arms rapidly, charging itself with energy.
Seeing this, Ursaring roared and launched a Hyper Beam straight at Elekid.
Elekid, unfazed, quickly finished charging and crossed its arms just in time to summon a green protective barrier.
Protect!
Boom!
The Hyper Beam collided with the barrier, shaking it but failing to penetrate. Elekid remained unharmed.
"Thunderbolt!"
Paul's voice was cold and precise.
"Buzz!"
Elekid unleashed another massive Thunderbolt. This time, Ursaring's body visibly stiffened, and a pained roar escaped as it finally showed signs of severe damage.
"Charge!"
Paul wasn't in a hurry to finish things. He had Elekid power up again, enhancing its next electric attack while raising its Special Defense.
On the ground, Ursaring managed to recover and unleashed another Hyper Beam, determined to land a decisive blow.
But Elekid once again used Protect, smirking as it blocked the attack effortlessly.
"Thunderbolt!"
With the final charge complete, Elekid unleashed its most powerful Thunderbolt yet. Ursaring tried to counter with Hammer Arm, but its paralyzed body betrayed it.
The Thunderbolt struck true, enveloping Ursaring in a blinding flash of electricity.
When the light faded, Ursaring remained standing for a moment, but its eyes were empty. A gust of wind passed, and the giant collapsed with a thunderous crash.
"Poké Ball, go!"
Paul threw a new Poké Ball, striking Ursaring and capturing it. The ball shook three times before locking with a click.
Picking up the ball, Paul immediately scanned it with his Pokédex.
Ursaring
Type: Normal
Gender: Male
Ability: Guts (Attack increases by 50% when afflicted with a status condition. Burn does not reduce Attack.)
Moves: Slash, Hammer Arm, Hyper Beam, Counter, Foresight
"Finally, one that meets my standards," Paul murmured, a rare smirk appearing on his face.
Though he hadn't captured the same Ursaring as in the anime, this larger, stronger version was more than satisfactory.
Paul left the Forest of Illusions feeling content with his success.
Author's Note:
Regarding Ursaring knowing Foresight—this isn't the games, and Pokémon learning unconventional moves can make sense. As long as the explanation is reasonable and not absurd, it works.
For example, Garchomp learning Dragon Dance isn't far-fetched. Dragons dancing is logical!
So Ursaring knowing Foresight to counter Stantler's illusions? Perfectly reasonable.
