Alessia's mind was reeling as she tried to process the information Sabine had just revealed. The idea that Drake's mother, Queen Lirien, had been responsible for the death of Draven's mother, Queen Niamh, was almost too much to bear.
As she sat in the dimly lit room, surrounded by the opulent decorations of the castle, Alessia couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She had thought that she was marrying into a family of powerful vampires, but now she was beginning to realize that there was so much more to it than that.
"Sabine, why are you telling me this?" Alessia asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Sabine's expression was serious. "Because, Alessia, you need to know the truth," she said. "You need to know what you're getting yourself into. This family is not what it seems. There are secrets and lies, and you need to be careful who you trust."
Alessia felt a shiver run down her spine as Sabine's words. She had always known that the vampire world was complex and treacherous, but she had never imagined that it was this bad.
"What about Drake?" Alessia asked, her voice hesitant. "Is he involved in all of this?"
Sabine's expression was guarded. "Drake is... complicated," she said. "He's a product of his upbringing, and he's been taught to put the needs of the family above all else. But I think he's starting to question that. I think he's starting to realize that there's more to life than just power and loyalty."
Alessia felt a surge of hope at Sabine's words. Maybe, just maybe, Drake was not as entrenched in the family's web of deceit as she had thought.
But as she looked around the room, Alessia couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. That there were eyes and ears everywhere, waiting to see what she would do next.
And then, just as she was starting to feel like she was going to lose her mind, Alessia heard a faint noise coming from the hallway. It sounded like footsteps, light and cautious, as if someone was trying not to be seen.
Alessia's heart skipped a beat as she turned to Sabine. "What was that?" she whispered.
Sabine's expression was serious. "I don't know," she said. "But I think we should be careful. We don't know who might be listening."
As Sabine spoke, the footsteps stopped, and an eerie silence fell over the hallway. Alessia felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized that she was trapped in a web of deceit and danger, with no clear way out.
As the silence stretched out, Alessia felt her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that she had to be careful, that one misstep could mean disaster. But she also knew that she couldn't just sit back and do nothing. She had to take action, had to try and uncover the truth about the vampire royal family and their secrets.
Sabine seemed to sense her unease, and she reached out to take Alessia's hand. "Don't worry," she said. "I'll protect you. I won't let anything happen to you."
Alessia smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Sabine. She knew that she could trust her, that Sabine would do everything in her power to keep her safe.
But as they sat there, holding hands and waiting for whatever was going to happen next, Alessia couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. That unblinking eyes were trained on them, waiting for them to make a mistake.
And then, just as she was starting to feel like she was going to lose her mind, the door to the room creaked open. Alessia's heart skipped a beat as she turned to see who it was.
It was Drake, his eyes gleaming in the dim light of the room. He was dressed in a black suit, his tie perfectly knotted. He looked every inch the powerful vampire prince, and Alessia felt a shiver run down her spine as he approached her.
"Alessia," he said, his voice low and husky. "I see you're getting to know Sabine."
Alessia nodded, feeling a sense of unease. She didn't know what to make of Drake's sudden appearance, or what he wanted.
"Yes," she said. "Sabine has been telling me all about the... complexities of vampire royal family politics."
Drake's eyes narrowed, his gaze flicking to Sabine. "I'm sure Sabine has been very... enlightening," he said.
Alessia felt a surge of protectiveness towards Sabine. She knew that Drake was trying to intimidate her, to make her feel like she was in the wrong. But Alessia wasn't going to let him get away with it.
"Actually," she said, her voice cool and calm. "Sabine has been very helpful. She's told me a lot about the history of the vampire royal family, and about the... tensions between different factions."
Drake's eyes flashed with anger, but he quickly controlled himself. "I see," he said. "Well, I'm glad to hear that Sabine has been... informative."
Alessia felt a sense of unease as Drake's eyes locked onto hers. She knew that he was trying to read her, to figure out what she was thinking and feeling. But Alessia was determined to keep her thoughts and feelings to herself.
"I think we've talked enough for now," she said, standing up. "I'm tired, and I need to get some rest."
Drake's eyes narrowed, but he nodded. "Of course," he said. "I'll escort you to your room."
Alessia felt a surge of unease as Drake offered her his arm. She didn't want to be alone with him, didn't want to give him the opportunity to manipulate her or try and control her.
But she also knew that she couldn't afford to antagonize him. Not yet, anyway.
So she took a deep breath, and placed her hand on his arm. "Thank you," she said, smiling up at him.
As they walked out of the room, Alessia couldn't help but feel like she was walking into a trap. She didn't know what Drake's game was, or what he wanted from her. But she was determined to find out.
And she was determined to come out on top.
