"Wake up! Milo you idiot wake the fuck up!"
Someone was shaking me. I slowly open my eyes and see my reflection in a pair of clear brown eyes. Familiar brown eyes. Only one person had that gaze.
"Aira…is that you?" I ask I was surprised by my trembling voice. I back away immediately scared she might attack again.
"What is wrong with you? Are you ok?" She says looking confused.
Now that I take I good look at her she looks younger than usual and she was wearing her school uniform. What was going on? Was I dreaming? How much more pathetic can I get. I sigh.
I suddenly felt a slap on my back.
"Let's go, we're already late. You know what that psycho will do if we're late." said Aira
I felt that slap. I wasn't dreaming. Did I go back in time? If I did how far did I go back?
"What's the date today, Aira?" I ask breathing heavily
"You're really weird today. It's the first day of school, September fifth." she said looking annoyed
"No what year" I ask desperately
"Ugh bro it's 2018" she said as she gets up and walks toward the school building.
I gasped. Did she just say 2018. That's exactly 10 years ago. Three years from now. Aira will leave to join the enemy country. I don't know why and how I'm here but I'm not wasting this opportunity. I'll find out why she turned out that. Every little detail I won't miss this time.
I stand up and follow her into the school building. I feel weird seeing this place again knowing it's nothing but ruins ten years from now.
We enter the classroom and I see all my classmates. I stand there and look knowing what futures awaited some of them. No one had been safe from Aira. This time we'll all live.
"Why are you staring, come here man" I turn toward the familiar voice it's Fabian my best friend that saved me from Aira years from now from dying.
I sit next to him and look around to see everyone. It still feels unreal.
"Can you stop staring at people you pervert" said Aira, she continues, "This weirdo just woke up stared at me like I was some crazy person and started asking what day it was. He definitely looked high."
Everyone laughed at this and I felt a strange sense of peace.
"Did you have a nightmare? Was it that bad?" Fabian asked me.
"Fuck off my heads killing me." I said
"Are you ok?" A soft voice asks
I'll recognize that voice anywhere it was Michelle. One of Aira's closest friends before she left us. She was also one the few people that believed in her till the end.
"I'm fine Michelle, Don't worry too much" I smile at her.
The others stare at me weirdly and before I could ask the teacher came in.
Mr Smith the cause and the root of everything was here standing before me. Calling him the cause was a bit much but he had a role in this. He was the catalyst that caused the destruction of our country.
"Good morning, hope you've all been well because I have an announcement to make." He said with this usual cold voice
Two years from now he'll make come in as he had today and make us all join the military.
I won't fall for it this time.
Class ended without any major issues just the usual syllabus but I couldn't let my guard down at least not yet.
"Can you stop spacing out, you're actually freaking me out now" Aira said backing away from me. I forgot I was here with them. I had to keep my cool and act normal. I couldn't let anyone catch on.
"I'm just tired I have been out of it." I said trying to sound as calm as possible.
"Do you like Michelle?" Aira asks with a serious look on her face.
I'm taken aback as I did expect that at all. Did I make it look like I like her?
"No I don't why did you suddenly ask me that?" I said with a calm look on my face
Fabian and Aira look at me before they burst out laughing. I was now curious to why she asked me that.
"You were smiling so weirdly at her that we thought you liked her or something not that I can blame you." said Fabian
He was right. Michelle was one the most well liked students in our school by both students and teachers. She was good natured too but a person who's liked by everyone didn't rub off well on me.
"Aira, are you doing anything later today?" I ask
Both Aira and Fabian look surprised and she shakes her head.
"Ok I'll text you later I want to ask you something."
She gives me a weird look before leaving with Fabian. I never knew she was close with him. He didn't believe she was a bad either. Was it because they were close now or something more. I had to find out more about Aira herself before finding the reason she left.
I barely knew anything about her and she was a stranger to me. It was my fault too for not reaching out to her.
I run up to her and Fabian and with my new found determination I decided to start from here where it all began.
