Lucas' face changed from pleasure to pain, a constant reminder that Sebastian Reed was never his in the first place. His heart swelled, not from what he felt for this relationship but from the aching pain—an agonizing pain that he had felt the moment the vampire felt his bond with him.
["You selfish dog! What the hell did you do?"]
He could still hear Sebastian's angered voice through his ears when the vampire had found that Lucas had imprinted on him. Him. A vampire. His sworn enemies of all people. Lucas closed his eyes tightly as he felt Sebastian reach his climax.
"Ah, shit!"
Sebastian gasped and panted as he looked at Lucas with sparks in his eyes. A spark that somewhat resembled "love".
'No, stop that Lucas! Don't get your hopes up. It's just a quick fuck. Stop asking for more!'
Sebastian smiled and leaned forward to kiss Lucas on his lips—a sweet, chaste kiss that made Lucas' wolf whimper quietly in his mind. Lucas stared at his blue eyes, searching for the love he had hoped for once he had found his mate.
All he could see was Sebastian's reaction when he made it clear the first time. No love, just pure hatred.
["Dream on for all I care, Lucas. I will never mate with you. Never in a million years."]
Lucas knew Sebastian's heart belonged to someone else. Someone better, bolder, and tastier. Someone who would never force him to get into a relationship over a stupid bond. Someone who will truly love and care for him.
Sebastian deserved all of that.
["Get out of here, Lucas. You stench the whole place."]
The only reason Sebastian stayed with him, cared for him, and even tried to love him was the imprint. There was no love between them. Just pure lust and whatnot.
He felt Sebastian's fingers caressing his cheek, chuckling at the face Lucas was making.
"What are you thinking of, sweetheart? Care to share it with me?"
Lucas stared at him and softly scoffed, giving away a face that Sebastian deemed childish. He could only smile and kiss his lips one more time. He then got up, took all of his clothes, and went to the bathroom.
"Hey."
He called out to Lucas, turning around and looked at Lucas' direction, a small playful smile plastered on his face.
"Rachelle had invited you to her birthday party tomorrow. The theme is pink and flowers."
Mockery was evident in his voice, the vampire rolled his eyes when he mentioned the theme of the party, making Lucas laugh lightly.
"Oh stop that."
Sebastian scrunched up his nose and walked back to where Lucas was sitting.
"You'll be there, right?"
"Duh. She would kill me if I didn't."
Lucas showed him a toothy grin. Clearing all his thoughts and hiding them in the very subconscious where Sebastian won't be able to hear him.
Sebastian smiled back and gave Lucas a chaste kiss before going back in the direction of the bathroom.
"I will pick you up near our little fortress so we can go together."
Lucas watched him leave, as he would watch him again later on. Something that often happened to the both of them, yet Lucas hoped that one day, Sebastian would stay.
Lucas sat on the bed, his back leaning against the bed frame of the motel.
"Stop it, Lyra. It's expected. He was just here because the imprint forced him to."
His wolf grumbled and sat in the darkest part of Lucas' mind. Away from the pain and the agonizing anxiety of jumping off a cliff.
Hours passed by like a speed of light, and the day ended just like any other day every time they met. They walked out of the motel and into the parking lot. Hands barely touching each other. Lucas had the urge to touch him, to feel again, even if it would be the last time.
But he slipped that thought away and put his hands in his pocket. He stopped in front of the car and watched as Sebastian put his things in the trunk.
"You're not coming with me, Lucas?"
"Not this time. Oh, Great Alpha Timothy is asking for a pack meeting."
Sebastian nodded in understanding and went inside his car. He started the engine before looking back at Lucas. Blue met brown, a stare-down that Lucas hated doing as they were never genuine.
It was all hatred and anger.
He may not be able to read minds like Sebastian, but he could read his eyes. A gift from his great-great-great grandfather Silas Red. And Sebastian's eyes say a lot that Lucas wouldn't want to know anymore.
He looked away and bid farewell to the vampire. He smiled at him and watched as the car flew at an abnormal speed in the direction of a human named Beatrice Caldrich — Sebastian's real mate.
Lucas inhaled deeply as he placed his shaky hand on his chest, quietly apologizing to his wolf in advance.
"I am sorry, Lyra. But it has to be done. This time it will be different."
He would be different.
Maybe in another life. I would be his and he would be mine.

The moment Sebastian arrived home, he fished out his phone and looked through the notifications that might come from Lucas. But there were none.
"Hm. That's odd. Guess the pack meeting is still not done."
He tossed his phone aside and went to play some old vinyl music. The ones that he had been stocking up to offer to Lucas as a small gift. He hummed along with the music and reminisced about the first time Lucas locked eyes with him.
It was rather gloomy weather and his girlfriend, Beatrice, had introduced him to his eccentric best friend. The moment their eyes met, he felt a rush of emotions, both happy and sad. He felt as if his life suddenly shifted as if gravity was pulling him towards Lucas.
He never knew what the feeling was at that time, but he knew he was happy. He did his research on that same feeling but even the internet had no answer for him.
He looked at his phone again. No notifications.
"Strange."
He held onto his bond and closed his eyes, concentrating on the only place where they could hold the meeting. But he sensed none. He tried tracking him down at Beatrice's house, but he couldn't sense him there.
Sebastian was stunned. He was about to ask and call Lucas through his bond when his phone rang. He grabbed it and saw the caller ID.
Maximus.
He answered it, pretending that everything was alright and he wasn't panicking.
"Hey, Max. What's up?"
A low grumbling sound could be heard on the other end of the line before an answer came in.
"Hey, Sebastian. Have you heard from Lucas?"
Sebastian inhaled a deep breath. "No, what's up?"
Maximus hummed from the other line before heaving a deep sigh. "We haven't heard from him either. Were you not with him earlier?"
Wait, what's going on? Is he hurt?
"Yes, I was. But we did not come home together as he said that there was a pack meeting."
Maximus was quiet on the other line before shouting back, probably to one of his kind.
"Lucian! Was there any pack meeting?!"
"Pack meeting? None that I heard of."
Sebastian felt his heart drop. Lucas lied? There was no pack meeting? But Lucas said–
"There is no pack meeting, Sebastian. Was Lucas the one who told you that?"
Sebastian was silent. He felt his heart aching. He just caught Lucas lying to him. He believed him earlier before they bid farewell to each other.
"But, if there's no pack meeting like what Lucas told me, where the hell is he?"
This time, it was Maximus who went silent, and then the call was cut. Sebastian frantically ran out of his house, dodging all obstruction in his path, not caring about the curious looks from his siblings, and went straight for the forest.
He didn't want to believe that Lucas had run away. No, it can't be. He promised that he would give me a chance.
A chance. A chance was what he asked Lucas. A chance to redeem himself.
