Chapter 5 - Convinced!

Kael stared at her before shaking his head.

"No, but I have heard of it."

Although he was not able to play one, he actually developed some interest toward virtual reality games before. Especially since it was in the mouth of his classmates and Vivian all the time.

"Perfect. Don't you go scavenging to earn money? Instead of going there, why not try playing a virtual game with me and earn money?" Vivian said with optimism, still trying to convince Kael.

"I know that it's possible to earn money playing games, but it's not that easy, right?"

As far as he knows, earning money in games requires a lot of time and effort. Countless hours of grinding, and you will only earn a meager amount of money, except, of course, if you have something to rely on, like a clan, or if you are super strong inside that game.

There were also Esports players, but that was even more unrealistic for Kael.

Vivian nodded her head.

"Yes, it's not easy," she paused for a brief moment before continuing.

"However, in New Infinite, normal players can definitely earn a decent amount as long as they play diligently. And besides, you can just play during the night, it would definitely not affect your scavenging or even studying… well, maybe just a little."

"New Infinite?" Kael looked at her with a thoughtful expression.

New Infinite is the current top VRMMORPG at this moment.

From his classmates' conversation, this game has taken the virtual reality community into a storm the moment it was released. After a year, its popularity went to another level as almost every owner of a Virtual Dive Gear has played the game at least once.

"Yes. Three months ago, New Infinite released a new feature where players could now buy and sell their crafted items in the Global Shop using real money."

"Isn't that basically pay to win?" Kael commented.

Vivian shrugged her shoulders.

"It is. However, it isn't that easy to craft items in New Infinite. To craft a sellable item, you would need a lot of materials, which can only be obtained through hunting monsters or completing quests. You can also buy and sell materials in NPC stores, but they only accept in-game currency."

"Only crafted items can be sold for real money?" Kael confirmed while Vivian nodded in affirmation.

"You just said that it's not easy to craft items, how could you be sure that we can definitely earn money in that game?"

Vivian rolled her eyes at him, "Duhh, of course, it's because I'll help you craft your first item."

"I'm telling you, I have a pretty good class in the game," Vivian boasted proudly.

She then proceeded to explain to Kael why she was confident in him making money inside the game even if he was a complete newbie.

In a sense, she would want him to become her assistant first, and then they could share the profit after they sold their crafted items.

After a lot of explanation and persuasion, Vivian finally managed to convince Kael to play a game of New Infinite with her.

In truth, he also harbored some thoughts of playing the game after hearing Vivian and his classmates talk a lot about it.

Unfortunately, with his family's situation, he just knew that there was no way to waste time playing virtual reality games.

However, if what Vivian said was true, that he could definitely earn money while playing the game, New Infinite, then maybe it was at least worth a try?

Of course, before that, he must obtain permission from his parent first.

After bringing the snacks that Mrs. Arden gave, Kael went back to his house along with Vivian.

This time, she had gone full force and decided to tag along to have some leverage with his parents.

Fortunately, his parents did not seem to oppose it and even encouraged him to play the game with Vivian.

After getting what she wants, Vivian returned home after reminding Kael one more time.

"Your Neuro Dive already has New Infinite installed, so you only need to create a new account for the game. Remember, contact me right away the moment you reach level 10, got it?"

Since Kael was a complete newbie, she had briefed him thoroughly on what he should do the moment he entered the game.

Kael was not a dumb kid either, and he was not entirely unfamiliar with games, even though he just heard bits and pieces about them from Vivian and his classmates.

After Vivian left, Kael decided to refurbish the aluminum pan first since he only planned to enter the game after having dinner.

With the help of his father, they quickly managed to hit the aluminum pan in the right spot and allowed it to fit the rice cooker unit.

Fortunately, it seemed to be working fine, and it was able to cook the rice well without any trouble.

Saving themselves some gas, the family of four ate a hearty meal with grilled vegetables as viand.

Their rented house was pretty small and only had enough space for the four of them along with some things.

Since tables take up a lot of space, the family decided not to get one and would eat on the floor instead.

After they were done, they cleaned the floor and quickly laid down the huge mat directly to the floor. This would act as their comfy bed for the entire night.

It was a long and tiring day for the family, and everyone wanted to rest early.

His father was on the rightmost part, his mother was next to him, and then Mila. Kael, on the other hand, was next to Mila—at the other end of the room.

As the small house grew quiet, Kael slowly plugged the Neuro Dive into the power outlet before lying down on the mat again.

"Playing a game, huh…" Kael muttered softly as he stared at the neon lights flashing around the Neuro Dive.

After the booting animation lights finished their thing, he quickly wore the Neuro Dive before closing his eyes.

The moment he did so, his darkened vision quickly changed to the interface of the Neuro Dive.

There, he saw all the applications installed in the Virtual Dive Gear. His gaze moved to the corner where the icon of the game New Infinite was placed.

True to its name, it has the symbol of infinity with a bluish world as its background.

Seeing how it was isolated in that corner, he assumed that the previous owner of the Neuro Dive put it there so that it could be easy to spot from the dozens of games installed inside the Neuro Dive.

Focusing his thoughts, Kael clicked on the New Infinite's icon and launched the game for the first time.
