Chapter 88 - Battle for Moriarch (Part 1)

" Abbadon! Come! Aatu has a few words for everyone! "

The King says to you in an optimistic tone, now wearing a suit of fully golden plate armor with ornate and intricate designs decorating it as he stands next to Sir Gerard. The entire throne room is now packed full of military officers who are in command of Moriarch's guard and military, and as you and Roary both walk to the center of the throne room where Aatu is standing, Aatu puts his hand on your shoulder, leaning towards you and whispering in your ear.

" Abbadon, may I ask something of you? "

You nod your head and Aatu continues whispering in your ear.

" In the coming battle, it's very likely that we'll require your assistance with using The Holy Omniverse Transcript. However, until it's absolutely necessary, I'd like you to preserve your strength for our fight with The None. I'll be holding back as well and preserving my strength because the true intention of this battle is likely to wear us down before our final confrontation. "

" Of course. "

You respond to Aatu quietly.

" Since using the book made me pass out last time, I'll be sure to take it easy. "

Aatu nods his head, then you ask him a question of your own in a discreet manner.

" I just saw the enemy forces on the horizon… Where's Mimi? Is she somewhere safe? "

Aatu smiles subtly and answers your question in a heartfelt tone, stepping to the side and revealing Mimi and Princess Elise standing behind him across the room.

" Mimi and the heir to Moriarch's throne will be held up in here with us where they'll be the safest. If the enemy forces break through our defenses and into the kingdom, this room will be the last place they'll reach. "

You nod your head in acknowledgment before Aatu takes a step back and addresses the room of officers, along with Moriarch's entire military force and citizens through a magical projection that's displayed on the inside of the shield barrier above the kingdom.

" Listen, and hear my voice, great people of Moriarch! This great army on your doorstep is unlike anything you have ever faced before! They come to tear down your walls and murder you, leaving no survivors in their wake! This enemy is one that many verses have faced before, all of which have fallen! Countless lands, gone and reduced to nothing, all suffering the same tragic fate regardless of how hard the Gods and mortals of said verse had fought to protect it! These cultists and the unbeings that they serve are capable of killing your Gods and destroying your planet without a second thought, but fear not! Do not lose hope! For we have something that all of those other fallen verses did not! "

Aatu then pulls you close, side hugging you with one arm to focus the broadcast and everyone's attention in the room on you before continuing his speech.

" I ask you to not only put your faith into your Gods, but to also have faith in this Otherlander here who has saved your kingdom once before! The Gods of the many fallen verses may not have been able to defeat these foes, but the power of Abbadon here goes beyond the likes of Gods! This battle will not just decide the fate of your world, but the fate of the infinite other worlds in existence that will fall as well if we fail tonight! If we are to succeed against all odds, then we will change the course of existence and save an infinite number of lives from being consumed by the same adversaries that come to kill you on this night! I ask you to fight! Fight until your very last breath, and if you are to fall against this great evil, then do so proudly knowing that you are protecting the infinite lands outside of your own and you gave your life avenging the countless mortals and immortals that have fallen before you! "

Suddenly, the whole kingdom begins to roar and shout with boosted morale upon hearing Aatu's words before you hear the sound of marching footsteps rumble louder and louder as the night sky gets darker outside the castle window and the opposing army draws closer and closer to the shield barrier. Aatu then reaches his glowing white hand up in the air, teleporting all of the military officers to their posts and beginning to transmogrify the castle throne room around you. You're caught off guard as the floor underneath your feet begins to quickly lift into the air and the walls of the throne room dissolve into a whirlwind of Light and Darkness that's spiraling around the castle as you're ascending. The walls slowly reform into a structure that's underneath the floor that you're standing on until the throne room is completely transformed into a giant tower with a 360° view of the whole kingdom and the entirety of the border wall around you. You can see millions of Moriarch soldiers all assembled in a defensive formation with knights and mages standing firm on the outside of the border wall and several legions of archers stationed on the inside of the wall. The King steps forward, looking out at the unfathomable red flood of cultists who continue marching towards the shield barrier and you can tell he's choking down the fear of the opposing army as he addresses his kingdom.

" Men and women of Moriarch! Take up your arms! "

The entire kingdom's military responds with hundreds of millions of soldiers chanting in unison.

" HOOHAH!! "

The King continues addressing his kingdom while his soldiers continue to chant as the cultists march closer and closer.

" Tonight, we give them a fight worthy of King Mori's legacy!! "

" HOOHAH!! "

" May your swords pierce their flesh and your conviction pierce their souls!! "

" HOOHAH!! "

You then begin to see a variety of Voldoorian vehicles coming over the horizon with large artillery, missiles and anti-tank weaponry. There are at least tens of thousands of walkers, tanks, and mechs; and once they have a clear line of sight at the kingdom of Moriarch, they all aim their weapons upwards, simultaneously firing a barrage at the shield barrier from all directions. You look around in awe as you see hundreds of thousands of missiles and shells flying through the air, closing in on the kingdom from all sides until they hit the barrier and the entire barrier is covered in explosions. The ground shakes violently from the force of the explosions and everyone under the barrier flinches from the power of the attack as the barrier stops them. Then you see several spaceship-looking cruisers zoom past overhead, bombing the top of the barrier with antimatter before flying off into the distance to turn around for another run. The antimatter bombs explode violently above the kingdom and blow all of the clouds in Aria's atmosphere away, causing the barrier to flicker slightly from absorbing the sheer amount of power of the bombs and converting them into mana.

The cultists continue to advance as the vehicles bombard the barrier and Sir Gerard steps forward to give a command.

" Archers of Moriarch!! Take aim!! "

You immediately see hundreds of thousands of archers within the kingdom's walls draw their arrows back and aim them upwards. Then the tips of the hundreds of thousands of arrows all begin to shine a radiant blue and emit a faint humming sound of magical energy, almost as if you're looking at a starry night sky of tiny glowing dots on the ground below you.

" READY!! ON MY COMMAND!! "

The archers hold their positions as the arrows glow brighter and brighter until Sir Gerard waits for an opening in the bombardment and gives his command.

" FIRE!! "

In an instant, you watch the archers release their arrows, launching them over the border wall. As the arrows spiral through the air, you see each individual arrow magically multiply a hundredfold which completely illuminates the sky and ground a bright blue almost as if its daytime again as they exit the shield barrier before coming down on top of the enemy forces. The arrows then explode on impact into a plethora of blue magical fireballs that wipe out tens of millions of cultists on their front line in one single volley, leaving a dense smokescreen where the millions of arrows just exploded. The people of Moriarch cheer and roar as the archers ready another volley of arrows, and once the smoke clears, you can see the cultists continuing to march forward, completely unfazed by the tens of millions of their own men who just died from the explosions. Sir Gerard orders the archers to fire again once there's another opening.

" READY!! FIRE!! "

Another volley gets released at their front line, this time closer to the shield barrier, and millions of more cultists perish from the blue magical explosions around the outside of the kingdom. Still, the cultists remain vigilant in their advancement, almost as if the deaths of those in front of them are inconsequential and they're ignoring it. The enemy vehicles continue to bombard the barrier while the cultists draw closer, taking volley after volley of the magical blue arrows that explode until they finally reach the edge of the barrier. However, to your surprise, they don't stop their advancement at the barrier's edge and you watch them continue walking into the barrier instead as if they can't even see it.

As expected, you watch the barrier break down the bodies of the cultists, turning them into a black dust that blows across the battlefield inside the barrier as a result while it converts their bodies into mana to fuel the integrity of the barrier. You feel sick to your stomach as you watch this mass suicide on a scale of millions, and then you notice something strange.

As the cultists kill themselves by walking into the barrier, you see that the base of the barrier where they're dying is slowly glowing more and more red instead of its usual blue. You stand beside the King, pointing it out to him and asking him a question.

" You see that? Is that supposed to happen? "

The King's face goes from confident to grim as he notices it as well and answers you.

" No… It's not… "
