Back at home, Caleb found his mom in the kitchen, humming softly as she prepared dinner. Her brown hair was tied back, and her kind eyes lit up when she saw him. "Caleb! You're home early. What's the occasion?"
He set his bag down and grinned. "Mom, you're not going to believe this. The academy's participating in a national competition, and I'm going to be part of it. There's a skill scroll, an SSS-ranked essence germ, and even a second pet slot for the winners!"
His mom smiled, pride evident in her expression. "That's incredible, Caleb. I always knew you had it in you."
Caleb rubbed the back of his neck. "It's still a long shot. But I'm going to use these three days to prepare. I'll need to cultivate and train harder than ever."
His mom placed a hand on his shoulder. "I believe in you, Caleb. You've already come so far. Just remember to stay safe, okay?"
"I will," he promised.
