Kian had never believed in vengeance, not did he ever think he would ever tread it's path.

Even after his parents were killed by drug dealers, even then, he did not turn to it.

Not that he could if he wanted, he was barely even 5 at the time, there was nothing he could do anyways.

As he rotted on the streets, he considered making those responsible for his plight pay, but he knew better.

Like anger, or lust, the desire for vengeance was just a destructive emotion that could destroy one if not controlled.

That's why Kian never imagined that he would walk a path of vengeance.

That was until he met Raiden.

It was a dark, cloudy day, and Kian was hiding in the shadows of an alleyway viciously ravaging a small piece of meat.

Three other homeless boys cornered him, eying him like starving wolves. Kian backed away from them, until he found himself backed up against a wall.

The biggest of the group, a gaunt boy with an ugly face scar, crept toward him.

"What's that you have there?" He asked, a sly, devilish smirk on his face.

Kian hid the meat behind his back.

"Oh?" The boy tilted his head, his predotary gaze tearing holes into Kian."Not going to share?"

Kian defiantly gazed at the boy, not replying.

"We'll just take it... Then!" The boy snarled. He pounced on Kian, and his companions followed.

The group began to attack Kian, clawing and wrestling ing him as they tried to free the meat, but it was of no avail.

Like a starved dog, Kian stubbornly held onto the meat, despite the assaults.

The torture seemed unending, until another voice was heard in the dark alleyway.

"Hey! Don't you maggots have any shame. 3 of you guys against one?"

A boy approached the group, a mocking smile on his face. His pale blue hair was messy, and his blue eyes held a confident flint within them.

Unlike the other 4, his clothes weren't ragged or dirtied, and his body healthy and clean.

"Mind your own business, posh boy!" The boys barked angrily, seemingly ready to fight.

The boys eyes narrowed,"You rats don't get to tell me what to do."

The next few seconds happened in a flash. Before the boy's comprehended what had happened, the strange boy had leapt through the air like an eagle, before kicking one of the 3 boys on the face.

The other two boys were stunned by the sudden attack, but recovered quickly, before trying to attack the boy.

As if he were lightening, he ducked their attacks and returned each one, landing his blows.

In a few seconds, the 3 boys were retreating, injuries covering their bodies.

The boy stood triumphantly, watching the 3 scurry away like frightened mice.

He turned to Kian, before flashing him a friendly smile.

"Hey, are you alright?"

Kian watched him cautiously, his hold over the meat not loosening.

"You can eat your food," the boy said, when he noticed Kian's distrust."I've got plenty."

Despite how cautious Kian felt, he felt his stomach squeeze with hunger.

Ignoring his cautiousness, Kian tore into the meat, until all that remained was bones.

"Man, you were hungry weren't you?" The boy asked.

Kian jumped out of shock, he had forgotten the boy was present.

The boy laughed. He stretched out his hand.

"I am Raiden, what about you?"

Kian regarded him for a moment, before taking his hand.

"I am Kian." He mumbled, avoiding eye contact.

"You're homeless, aren't you?" Raiden asked. If you want, you can come and live in my house."

Kian was taken aback by the proposal, but it seemed to good to be true. Kian regarded Raiden, not sure what to do.

"You can trust me..." Raiden said reasulssuringly. "These streets aren't safe."

That was true. The streets were no different from the jungle. One had to struggle and claw go for survival.

Finally, Kian made up his mind.

"Okay."

Rejoiced, Raiden led Kian to his house.

They walked through the narrow slum street, skipping over rats and trash. In some places, the sewage had overflowed, leaving a repulsive sight.

These were the slums.

The slums themselves made up a large part of the city of Urasia. The city was built almost 500 you ago after the earth's destruction.

Tall walls bordered the city, protecting it from the threat of the monsters that crawled beyond it.

The slums were built directly after the walls, and the houses of the rich right at the center.

To many, the walls was what protected them from the monsters.

To Kian, all the wall did was imprison them. It trapped them with monsters far worse then the senseless creatures beyond the walls.

It trapped them with monsters that could think, plan, lie and decieve.

After the walk, Raiden brought Kian to a small building squeezed in amongst many other similar buildings.

In it, Kian discovered something he had never experienced before.

A family.

Raiden's father was a construction worker, one who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Raiden's mother stayed at home, ensuring order in the house.

The two were loving parents, who welcomed Kian with open arms.

The next 2 years he spent with Raiden and his family was the best time in his life. Raiden was like a brother to him, and Raiden's parents treated him like their own child.

They were unlike his own parents who were drunkards that never showed him even a hint of affection.

Kian had enjoyed the time so much, he forgot just how cruel life was.

2 years later, monsters breached the wall, flooding into the slums of Urasia.
