My Beloved...
Under the silver glow of the moon, I whisper your name hoping it'd brush against your cheek. Thousand mountains and rivers between us yet, my heart flutters in the wind effortlessly.
To get a single glimpse of you!
A heart that's devoted to you!
Despite not knowing to read, the words on the letter, the feelings those words contained within them all flowed into Xiao Yun's heart, making it flutter for the first time.
Just acquired his human form after decades of cultivating, it was the first thing Xiao Yun learned in the mortal world.
Love!
The letter in his hand gave off a golden glow and it seeped into his body, soothing his soul. Turns out the Love that the mortals talk a lot about is a heaven-given gift to them.
Feeling as if it was a treasure, just as Xiao Yun was about to preserve it into his own spiritual body to keep it safe, he noticed a dark, silvery glare rushing towards him like lightning. Xiao Yun, just like a new born in the mortal world, was scared stiff that he just stood there with his tightly shut.Â
"Hands Off!!", a hoarse yet, harsh voice snapped as he felt the soul-calming glow that flowed into him from the letter leave his hands, making Xiao Yun to open his tightly shut eyes. His gaze fell right on the letter on the opposing party's hands. Despite being bewildered by the sudden turn of events, Xiao Yun didn't fail to notice the anger on the other party's face turning that of a confusion before it shifted back to rage once again.
As soon as Xiao Yun acquired his human body at the snow mountain peak, he had left there, wandering in to the mortal world only to encounter a floating scroll engulfed in bright golden glow. It was too eye-catching that Xiao Yun failed to control himself from reaching out to that bundle of golden glow. He had no idea of who it belonged to. And now, looking at the tall man in front of him with a slender and long, silver sword on his hand, his fiery gaze fixed on the scroll, Xiao Yun seemed to understand the situation.
That scroll belonged to this guy.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't know it's yours." Although Xiao Yun said it with so much sincerity, his milky voice only made it sound childish.
"You-! What did you do?!" The guy in front of him growled. Donned in black clothes with golden threads woven in between, his aura looked even more fierce that Xiao Yun felt suffocated in his presence.
"I didn't do anything!" A chill ran down his spine. He had just acquired his human form after decades of cultivating and he just had to run into this fierce guy who glared at Xiao Yun, his glare burning a hole through his head. What kind of luck did he have? Clouds are the hardest to manifest in to a spirit and it's even more unlikely for a cloud spirit to gain human form after only a few decades of cultivating. In other words, he's a miracle child full of luck to have gained access to Snow mountain peak, a place stacked with spiritual energy. Yet, he felt like his luck had dissipated as he stood in front of that fierce looking guy.
He really didn't know what he had done wrong. He just touched something that was just out there floating around which just so happened to belong to this guy. It wasn't a murder crime, right?
The guy in front him had a tall and slender figure. His clothes very neatly hugging his body loosely. His long black hair falling down his shoulders. He's handsome. Yet, when he frowned, rage evident in his deep black pupils, his handsomeness disappeared. He just looked like a fierce animal. Not to mention the enormous amount of spiritual energy Xiao Yun felt on him. It far surpassed that of a fairly new cloud spirit like Xiao Yun.
Xiao Yun sure thought he was done for.
However, contrary to his worries, he saw the fierce guy taking a few deep breaths, calming himself down as he spoke up, his tone hoarse from all the suppressed anger.Â
"If you didn't do anything, where's the soul fragment this scroll contained then?"
Xiao Yun who's as new as a 5 year old, "...". What soul fragment? He didn't understand anything.
After pondering on his answer for a while, fearing that fierce guy might eat him alive if he were to drag on any longer, Xiao Yun asked hesitantly, "How am I supposed to know that?"
"..."
At this hesitantly spoken bold question, Ling Baiyue felt like slaughtering everything around him to nothing.
Slaving around for the upper-heavens for thousands of years, going high and low, collecting fragments of souls left in the love letters written by the mortal humans, he had seen all kind of people, becoming numb to emotions with the passing time. Yet, there's still one emotion that still stayed fresh in his mind till to this day.Â
Anger.
Yet, the little spirit in front of him who's probably not even 500 years old yet dared to test his patience, angering him like that. It was indeed true that a young calf never knows fear.Â
He worked hard suppressing his anger. He'd be the one to get punished by the heavens were he to lose even a single fragment of soul after all.Â
"Just answer mw, what exactly did you do with the scroll?" Ling Baiyue asked, his tone eerily cold.
"I- I really didn't do anything. I just touched it and I just- I just suddenly had these few unfamiliar memories and words in my head. It's all your scroll. I didn't do anything." Xiao Yun explained, anxious.
Hearing his frantic explanation, Ling Baiyue suddenly felt like his previous bold question wasn't that infuriating after all. Since he felt like splitting his head now.Â
The fragment of the soul that was supposed to be merged with the scroll was missing. He had dealt with these kinds of love letter scrolls with fragment of souls attached to them, yet he never encountered a situation where he could just know the content of the scroll along with the memories of the fragment of soul trapped in it. Facing such a bizarre situation, it wasn't actually that hard to catch.
The fragment of soul probably got released from the scroll and merged inside Xiao Yun's soul instead.Â
He had heard of such an incident that happened in the past. But it was even before he became a spirit. It was even before Ling Baiyue came into existence. Thus, he never paid much attention to that incident. Now that he was experiencing it, he felt a headache coming on.
He had a feeling that this situation would take a long time to solve.Â
And if there's one thing that Ling Baiyue lacked, It'd be...
Patience.
