Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Vitale and Oliver were chatting at the bar of the Nottinpart club.

—Let's get to the point, who do you work for? Vitale asked, letting his distrust show in his voice.

Oliver gave a carefree laugh, as if the question had no weight.

—Who do I work for? —he repeated, with a defiant smile—. If you think I work for someone in the criminal world, you're wrong. I work organizing rock events, nothing more exciting than that.

Vitale frowned, scanning Oliver's face for any sign of lying. The vibrant music of the club pulsed around them, but the outside world seemed to fade as they faced each other.

"I'll tell you what," Oliver continued, leaning forward slightly. You can trust me. Don't think I'd like to mess with Luca Vitale.

Oliver's words hung in the air between them, and Vitale felt that he wasn't lying. His carefree appearance didn't seem to fit someone who had motives to deceive him.

—But how do you know all that? Vitale continued, frowning. Did you have a criminal past?

Oliver shook his head, his smile remaining intact.

—No, I was never in that world... Listen, I find out everything that happens in the city. Just like you heard it. Even the smallest.

Vitale looked at him suspiciously, but there was something about Oliver's sincerity that made him doubt.

"Let's put it to the test," Vitale said, his voice firm. Do you know Don Dimitri?

Oliver thought for a moment.

—There must be many Dimitris in the city. You must be clearer if you want a strong answer.

Vitale stared at him, feeling the tension rising between them.

"Illegal," Vitale said decisively.

Oliver raised an eyebrow thoughtfully.

-Illegal? Hmm... Let's see... A Dimitri who does illegal things... It's true! It could be Don Dimitri, a trafficker of weapons, cartridges and explosives. His lair is somewhat far from the city. To go unnoticed, he usually sells weapons to gangs, criminal gangs and even mafias. "He's very good at it," Oliver said, his tone taking on a tinge of involuntary admiration.

Vitale was a little surprised: not even the city police knew that.

—Wow... It seems you weren't lying. For a simple rock lover, you're not that badly informed... Not even the police know about this.

Oliver watched him, letting out a sigh.

—The city police do nothing to stop crime. "The city is infested with criminals," Oliver exclaimed. Speaking of this, what is it about your life? Do you work for someone in particular?

Vitale grabbed his glass and began to swirl it around, watching the crowd filling the club. Vibrant music and laughter echoed around him, but he couldn't find his friend Domenico among so many people. He looked back at Oliver, seeking to keep the conversation going.

"Well... I'm working with Mark Blaze," Vitale said, firmness in his voice.

Oliver raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised.

—With Mark Blaze? Wow, I didn't expect that. You work with one of the biggest drug traffickers in the city. "You must make good money with it," he commented, letting out a nervous laugh that sounded more like disbelief.

Vitale stared at him, feeling the tension building in the air between them. He didn't answer her right away, letting the words float for a moment.

"Now you're Mark Blaze's errand guy," Oliver continued.

Vitale put his glass still, his gaze hardening.

"No, I'm not anyone's errand guy," he replied, his tone firm and determined. I do it only temporarily.

The determination in his words echoed in the space between them, as Oliver watched him.

—Mmm... Hey, do you need money? Oliver asked, lowering his voice a little, as if he were about to reveal an important secret.

—I have good money for now, but I still need more. What is your question about? —he responded, his tone cautious.

Oliver leaned forward a little, as if afraid someone might hear.

—Listen... I know a guy who is going through difficult situations right now. He is looking for someone to help him; You know, a guy who solves his problems and doesn't sit back with his arms crossed," Oliver said, his gaze intense.

Vitale frowned, analyzing Oliver. Curiosity grew in him; who could that guy be? Oliver's words echoed in his mind, full of possibilities.

—Who are you talking about? —said Vitale, clearly interested, with a glint of curiosity in his eyes.

—I'm talking to you about Mason Heart. He is involved in the world of crime; you could help him. "Since you're very clever at this, you could make a lot of money with it," Oliver whispered, his voice barely audible above the murmur of the club.

Vitale frowned, trying to connect the dots.

—Mason Heart? "I don't know that name, but it could be a good opportunity," he said, feeling the adrenaline begin to flow through his system.

Oliver nodded, as if he knew he had caught Vitale's attention.

—You know, Mason has an absurd amount of money. He is a partner of mine; He rarely comes to this club to vent when a deal goes wrong. Oliver paused, looking around as if afraid of being overheard. The last time he came, he was quite upset... something went very wrong.

The atmosphere of the club seemed to change; The laughter and murmurs faded as Vitale focused on Oliver's words. The idea of getting involved with someone like Mason Heart intrigued him and filled him with uncertainty at the same time.

—And what kind of problems do you have? Vitale asked, frowning.

—The truth is, I don't know; He doesn't usually go around telling people his business. Why don't you find out for yourself? —Oliver suggested, with a mischievous smile.

Vitale remained silent, thinking carefully. This could open new doors for you.

—Where do I find it? —said Vitale, with excessive determination and confidence.

—It's too late now, but come any of these days and I'll tell you where to find it. Don't worry, I usually spend almost every night in this club.

—Okay... Why do you spend so much time here? —Vitale asked, curious.

—I just love the atmosphere: the rock music they sometimes play, the drinks and all that. Although the owners of the club must make a lot of money, because there are always a lot of people here," Oliver replied, looking around with satisfaction.

Vitale thought it was interesting to hear that; He was already planning his next move in his mind.

"I can imagine... Soon you will be coming every day," he said as he got up from the stool.

Oliver was a little confused, not fully understanding what Vitale meant.

"I'll see you in these days, Oliver," Vitale said, with a serious look.

"As you wish, Luca," Oliver replied, still trying to decipher the implication.

Vitale left the bar and began looking for Domenico, who had been out of sight since they arrived at the club. It was difficult to locate him in the crowd, but finally he saw him chatting animatedly with two girls.

He approached him and, with a mischievous smile, said: "Let's go, Romeo."

-Oh really? Are we leaving now? Domenico looked at Vitale in surprise before turning to the girls. Excuse me, girls, but I have to go.

Domenico caught up with Vitale just before leaving the club.

-What happened? I didn't see you all night. Where had you been? And just when I was with those two beauties you appear," Domenico joked, laughing as he adjusted his jacket.

Vitale smiled and patted him on the shoulder. —Life is hard, friend. But there is always time to enjoy the company.

Vitale opened the club door and walked out, feeling excited about the new possibility of working with Mason Heart. However, he knew that he had to analyze the situation carefully.

Domenico caught up with him to the car and they both got in. The engine roared softly as Vitale started the vehicle.

—How was your night? Domenico asked, looking at Vitale from the corner of his eye.

"I think it was a good choice to have come here, I congratulate you," Vitale responded, flashing a smile. And sorry for interrupting you with those girls; And I don't apologize often.

Domenico gave a light laugh, shaking his head. —Don't worry, friend. Maybe it's for the best for me, although those girls were pretty interesting!

Vitale and Domenico relaxed, enjoying the tranquility of the night before setting off on their next destination: stargazing from the car. The cool breeze brought with it a soft murmur, while the sky was filled with bright spots.

—Did you make a new friend within the club? —Domenico continued, looking towards the horizon—Or did you meet someone interesting?

"Yes, I met someone interesting," Vitale replied, leaning back in his seat and clasping his hands behind his head. Do you know Oliver Moon?

Domenico raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oliver Moon?" No... I don't know who you're talking about. Is he an interesting guy?

"Quite a bit... He knows a lot of things... Maybe too much," Vitale said, relaxed. He offered to visit one of his friends, Mason Heart.

—Mason Heart? Wow, it seems like I missed out on a lot, all by being with those girls," Domenico responded, shaking his head with a smile.

Vitale laughed. —Let's go home, I'll take you to yours. Your grandmother must be worried.

"It's true, I completely forgot my grandmother," Domenico laughed. Let's go rest.

As Vitale drove toward Domenico's house, the sound of the engine filled the comfortable silence of the car. The street lights flashed by and the stars shone brightly in the clear sky.

"I'll tell you everything I talked about with Oliver Moon," Vitale said, glancing askance at his friend. It seems I have new opportunities.

Domenico listened attentively, nodding with interest as Vitale shared his impressions of the conversation and the plans that were brewing.

Until they reached their destination, Domenico got out of the car and, before going home, Vitale spoke to him from the car window.

"Wait, Domenico," Vitale said, leaning forward.

-Something wrong? Domenico asked as he stopped on the street-lit sidewalk.

Vitale took money out of his jacket and stretched out his hand towards him.

—This is your share for today's work.

Domenico took the money with a smile, surprised.

"Thank you, this is more than I made in two weeks," he laughed, looking at the bills in his hand. By the way, Vitale, are you planning on working for this Mason Heart guy?

—I don't know yet, it depends. "We'll see what happens," Vitale responded. Oliver didn't tell me where to find it; He told me that the next time he sees him he will tell me. For now, I'll just go to the hotel.

"I understand... See you another time," Domenico said before walking towards his house.

Vitale thought for a moment, took a deep breath and decided to leave. Upon arriving at the hotel, the bright lights illuminated the facade, making it look splendid at night.

He walked into his room and dropped his jacket on a chair. She took a hot bath, enjoying the steam that filled the air and the aroma of the shower gel that relaxed her tired muscles. After drying off, he got dressed and climbed into bed, feeling the softness of the sheets against his skin.

As he settled down to sleep, his mind wandered to the possibilities that awaited him. There was a lot to think about and plans to make for tomorrow.
