He was lost in thought when a woman arrived and said, "Oh, so you're awake, my dear daughter." Hearing this, Sagar was utterly shocked and exclaimed, "What? Daughter? But I'm a boy!"
"Oh, God, what have you done?" he thought to himself, silently crying. In front of him stood a handsome prince who said, "Darling, aren't you ready yet?" Meanwhile, Sagar, who was dressed in women's clothes but still had his beard and mustache intact, turned around to look. The prince added, "Today is our first night together." Just the thought of it made Sagar scream in his mind, but no one could hear his voice.
At that moment, a maid interrupted, saying, "Madam, please stop calling him 'daughter.' After all, he's a boy. I understand you wanted a girl, but you can't just call him that."
Hearing this, Sagar sighed in relief internally. "Thank goodness! I'm still a boy. Otherwise, I'd have had a heart attack at such a young age." Just then, a man entered the room.
The maid stepped back, bowed, and greeted, "Welcome, Marquis." The man stared at Sagar for a moment and then left without saying a word. The child's mother then asked, "Aren't you going to name him?"
The man left without responding. The woman sighed in disappointment. The maid, exhaling deeply, said, "It seems the Marquis is still very angry. You'll have to name him yourself."
Hesitantly, the mother said, "Me? Alright then. From today, your name will be Little Bunny." Hearing this, both the maid and the child were dumbfounded. The maid objected, "Please let me pick a name instead." Embarrassed, the mother replied, "I'm sorry. I'm not good at naming." Sagar thought to himself, "Little Bunny? That's the name she came up with?"
The maid then declared, "From today, the child's name will be Lucifer."
The mother glared at the maid, while Sagar thought, "And I thought the maid was sensible. Lucifer? Who names a sweet child Lucifer?"
At that moment, an elderly woman entered the room and said, "You two fools can't even come up with a proper name?" Hearing this, the maid was about to yell, "Who do you think you're insulting—?"
But the mother interrupted, saying, "Please forgive me, Mother." Sagar realized this elderly woman was his grandmother.
"I'll name this child myself. You two, step aside," she declared. Looking at the child's face, she thought, "How adorable!" and lovingly pinched his cheek, though she kept her expression neutral. "Ethan. His name will be Ethan Kingswell."
The maid muttered under her breath, "Lucifer Kingswell would've been better." Whether the elderly woman heard her or not, she still gave her a piercing glare, making the maid's hair stand on end.
The mother then asked, "Did Father not come?" The elderly woman replied, "My dear Victoria, your father couldn't come due to some work. But don't worry; he sent plenty of gifts and blessings for you through me and your brother." Victoria said, "Alright."
The elderly woman then asked, "Forget that, where is Richard? Why isn't he here?" Victoria was about to explain when another woman entered the room. Victoria glared at her and said, "Isabella, what are you doing here?"
Her anger towards Isabella was evident in her eyes. Isabella responded, "Just as this is your child, he is also my son. That's why I came to see him." However, both the maid and Victoria glared at her as if they were ready to devour her alive.
Seeing this, Ethan thought to himself, "Something is definitely off about this woman. The way she's smiling, it feels like she's here to mock someone." He paused and added, "Maybe it's just my imagination, or perhaps it's related to that man who was here earlier."
He shook off the thought, "Whatever, it doesn't concern me for now." Isabella then said, "He had to leave early due to some urgent work." Victoria's mother glared at Isabella and retorted, "What kind of urgent work would make him leave so quickly? If you or he even think of harming my grandson, remember what will happen to you."
Startled, Isabella stammered, "I don't know anything about that." She then turned to smile at Ethan. But that smile didn't sit well with Ethan, whose name had just been changed from Sagar to Ethan.
A little while later, Ethan thought angrily to himself, "Ugh, just leave me alone already! Stop treating me like a baby and feeding me!" Pretending to sleep, he waited until his mother and the maid left the room. As soon as they were gone, he let out a deep sigh and thought, "Finally, they're gone."
Five minutes later, a man dressed entirely in black slipped into the room through the window. Ethan stared in shock, thinking, "Who is this?" The man approached the table and poured something into Ethan's milk bottle. Dressed in black even during the day, the man's appearance left no doubt in Ethan's mind—this was an assassin sent to kill him.
After finishing his task, the assassin slipped out of the room. Ethan tried to move his arms to reach the milk bottle but realized he could barely move. Frustrated, he thought, "What nonsense! Am I really going to die here just after being born? Wow, what luck!"
Moments later, the maid returned, ready to feed him from the poisoned bottle. Just then, Ethan's grandmother entered the room and scolded the maid, "Don't you even know you can't feed a newborn baby from a bottle?"
Apologizing profusely, the maid asked, "Then what should I do with this milk?" Ethan's grandmother replied, "Take it away." Relieved, Ethan thought, "Grandma saved me! Otherwise, I'd be a goner today."
"This life doesn't seem like it's going to be peaceful after all. But the real question is, who would want to kill a newborn baby? This place may look grand, but it's definitely not safe."
Later that night, Ethan woke to the sound of someone entering the room again. It was another man, also dressed in black. Judging by his movements, Ethan guessed it was the same assassin from earlier. This time, the man approached Ethan with a knife in hand. Ethan wanted to scream but couldn't make a sound.
Ethan remembered the maid's comment: "It's strange that this baby hasn't cried at all. Most newborns cry a lot." Determined, Ethan began crying loudly—louder than he ever thought possible.
The assassin reached Ethan and sneered, "Laughing before death, huh?" He raised his knife, ready to strike. But just as he was about to stab Ethan, Ethan urinated on his face, startling the assassin and making him step back in shock. At that moment, a man armed with a sword burst into the room and pierced the assassin's back.
After killing the intruder, the man approached Ethan, who was now smiling. The man said, "Nephew, don't worry. Your uncle is here." Hearing this, Ethan thought, "First Grandma saved me, and now Uncle. Maybe my luck isn't so bad after all."
Ten Years Later
Ethan, now older, thought to himself, "Over the past ten years, there have been 77 attempts on my life. Somehow, I've survived every one of them. What's baffling is that the Marquis has done nothing about it."
"As for my father, Richard Kingswell, I know almost nothing about him. I haven't seen him in ten years. It's like he doesn't even want to meet us. Sometimes I think he used my mother as a stepping stone to climb the social ladder. That theory makes sense, considering my grandfather is Duke William Ashford. Without his influence, my father could never have become a Marquis."
"The only reason I've survived this long is because of my grandfather's power. Thanks to him, I live in luxury. Otherwise, I wouldn't be alive right now."
"My father has practically abandoned me, but even so, sitting idle all these years has driven me insane. I can't just wait around for the next assassin to show up and try to kill me. But at least I've managed to gather a lot of money and connections. That should make my future much more comfortable."
"That's my plan, anyway. But first, I need to find out who's behind these attacks. Once I deal with them, my life will be peaceful and luxurious, without lifting a finger."
