Chapter 9 - The Prometheus Project (5)

After Yakup returned to his area, he looked around to complete the rest of the preparations. It was difficult to find the necessary supplies. He could not move around freely as he had to be careful and stealthy at all times. The Lightning Komodo Dragon was not the only problem in the forest. There were many Class A and Class B monsters that were just as powerful. Thanks to his custom-made camouflage and insect repellent creams, he didn't need to be afraid of insects, but it was very important to avoid reptilian creatures like snakes.

The most thing that separated a Class A from a Class B was the potential for evolution. Class A monsters were monsters with fixed traits and low evolution potential. For example, it was impossible for the Venomtick Spider, the Class A monster he was looking for, to evolve into another species. It was a harmless species that lived quietly in its territory, not attacking humans unless attacked. Unlike the Venomtick Spider, the Lightning Komodo Dragon could evolve into the Lightningflame Komodo Dragon or Storm Dragon after reaching level ten.

Despite being Class B, it could evolve into a Class C Storm Dragon. Tenth level Storm Dragons were last seen in the Moscow Raid. Their attacks, full of whirlwinds and lightning, had left Paradion's hunters and Moscow's infrastructure bleeding.

'If I could find the Venomtick Spider and the Shadow Flower, this hunt would be a piece of cake.

Yakup was crushing the plants he had gathered on his left side while rolling the stink bombs he had created with a mixture of feces and plants into small balls. After throwing the leaves he wrapped the stink bombs with into his bag, he grimaced and looked at the liquid accumulated under the crushed plants. Flameskin Climber, Thunder Ant, Black Claw Mushroom and Flame Beetle.

He dripped about five drops of the peachy-smelling hot juice from the Flameskin Climber into the container with his sponge. The smell alone made his body go numb. Then he crushed the Thunder Ant with his bayonet and dripped three drops of the resulting liquid into the container. After stirring with a small twig, he added a drop of the Flame Beetle's liquid.

After the three different types of liquid reacted with each other, they started to foam. Yakup plugged his nose with his hand to avoid breathing in the fumes. After adding a fingernail's worth of the Black Claw Mushroom's spore, he stirred it well with a stick.

"I hope it's worth the trouble."

---

The forest was silent as the sky was bathed in the pale orange of twilight. The Lightning Komodo Dragon cowered in the shadow of a rock. Thin blue lights filtered through the cracks of its skin, blinking like stars defying the night. Its electrically charged muscles tensed impatiently, low-frequency vibrations from its snout filling the air. The forest was its playground.

A pleasant smell came from far away. It was harsh, but he would be wrong to say it was not intriguing. The Komodo Dragon stuck out its tongue and licked the air, pausing with its eyes wide open. Then it began to follow the smell with quick steps.

After following it for several kilometers, he saw that it was coming from a wounded deer. A deer. It was not an easy prey to encounter. The Lightning Komodo Dragon nervously approached the wounded deer. Even though it was an animal, it was not stupid, it could sense traps.

There was desperation in the deer's eyes. In the darkness of the night, the blue eyes of the Lightning Komodo Dragon watched its prey with steady composure. And now.

He accelerated like an explosion. When its electrically charged muscles kicked into action, it threw the damp earth back as if on fire. Despite its weight, it was silent, only a low electrical pulse was enough to paralyze its prey. By the time the deer returned, it was too late. The deer drew a desperate breath before the Komodo Dragon's powerful jaws snapped its neck. Hot blood trickled down the teeth of the Lightning Komodo Dragon.

The Lightning Komodo Dragon savored its kill for a while, but one deer would not be enough, not even in the socket of its tusk. He would have to look for new prey. But there was no problem, he was the king of this jungle. What could stand against it?

Then he caught a new smell. A kilometer away, the pungent smell he had smelled a while ago had reappeared. It was a very enticing smell, pungent and disturbing, but it was the smell that had brought the Lightning Komodo Dragon to this deer.

He followed the smell with quick steps. A kilometer later, under a tree, he found a dying deer. Same smell, same situation. The Lightning Komodo Dragon was surprised, but his hunger did not allow him to think too much about it.

He didn't even hesitate to devour the deer.

And again...

When he followed the smell, he came to a very open area. A deer, wounded in the same place, was walking with eyes full of fear. The wound on its hind leg prevented it from running, but not from walking, and the smell of ammonia emanating from its body made the Lightning Komodo Dragon approach uneasily. It was an unfamiliar smell, but it was so strong and pungent that it burned his nose, but it was hard for him to resist its allure.

The Lightning Komodo Dragon watched the deer for a while, then turned his attention to the threats around him. His senses allowed him to sense even the smallest creature within a kilometer radius. He could feel the aura of two monsters that could rival him in this jungle, the Eight-Faced Spider Lord and the Crystal Boa Snake, far away.

After making sure that there was not the slightest threat within a kilometer, he looked at the deer. The blood dripping from the deer's wounded leg and dripping on the ground gave him a familiar sensation.

Hunger.

Without thinking, he used his ability called 'Lightning Field'. Lightning Stamps flashed around his nose and his metallic scales opened slightly. The electricity radiating out from his body slowed the movements of the deer ten meters away.

Before the deer even realized what was happening, it was engulfed by the electric current surrounding its body. As its legs went numb, it turned its helpless eyes to the sky. Although the power used by the Lightning Komodo Dragon was very small, the quality of its ability had caused the deer to suddenly go into shock and die. His intention was to slow the deer down.

His energy flowed back into his body, and the Lightning Komodo Dragon walked excitedly towards the deer. This time he took his time. He took care to savor the meal. He ate until only a few bones of the deer remained.

The clouds had gathered and the sun was about to set.

The Lightning Komodo Dragon lifted its head to take a deep breath of fresh air. Tonight's meal had more than satisfied him.

Vziittt!

---

Suddenly he felt his scalp tingle and his survival instincts screamed. The black blackness in front of his eyes grew larger and larger.

It was a bullet!

Monsters hated humans the most, and encountering human hunters was the worst thing that could happen to a monster. When the Lightning Komodo Dragon saw the bullet, it didn't even have time to think about parrying the attack.

At that moment, the Lightning Komodo Dragon felt as if a spear had been thrust into its face, the force behind the blow causing it to throw its head back as blood began to flow like rivers. He went berserk as his survival instinct flared.

HRAAAAAZZZHHH-VZZZZZZZZTTTTTHHHH!

The uncontrolled show of force that followed his roar caused the area within thirty meters of him to be suddenly scorched by lightning. The pain of the bullet lodged in his eye caused him to lose control. So much so that the wind from his tail, which he accidentally swung, uprooted a tree thirty meters away.

About a kilometer and a half away, camouflaged on a hilltop, Yakup watched the scene through his binoculars. Even the expression on his face didn't change as the Lightning Komodo Dragon spiraled out of control, knocking trees out of place with just the wind of its tail.

"Tsk." When Yakup realized that the power of the bullet was insufficient, he wasted no time in regret. He immediately loaded the second bullet into the gun. His eyes never left the Lightning Komodo Dragon for a moment. When he placed the bullet, the trees that had been uprooted had not yet fully landed on the ground.

When he aimed at the other eye of the Lightning Komodo Dragon, a sight that scared the living daylights out of him. As the Lightning Komodo Dragon hesitated for a moment and looked in its direction, the second bullet whistled into its other eye. The Lightning Komodo Dragon had no time to react, letting out a pitiful scream, both eyes bloodied.

Yakup felt dizzy from the monster's roar. Even though he was 1500 meters away, he was frightened by the electric current lifting his feathers. He could not survive a second against this monster.

After a moment, the Komodo Dragon turned around and started running like a blind rabbit. But as he ran, he lost his bearings and crashed into a tree, knocking it down instantly. When he turned the other way to correct his direction, his feet got tangled and he fell to the ground.

His screams and cries were really heartbreaking.
