Chapter 3 young eyes open

A year has gone by since Arthur started his training under his mother. The physical part was hard in the beginning but became easy over time, The mental part is where he struggled. His anger got the better of him more often than not. Controlling his magic was the hardest part, he often let too much power out that his body couldn't handle, causing him to collapse from the pain.

His father tried to include him in the training with everyone else but everytime they got face to face an argument starts and on a few occasions they put hands on each other and have to split up by everyone around them. Arthur made sure his father knew that he disliked him at every chance he had.

As he meditates the words his father said when found out that he had fire magic fills his head

"Fire? A disrespectful little shit and an abomination. Fire magic has been dead for decades and yet you somehow got it? The world killed people like you off in the time of the old gods, i should send you off with the rest of your kind"

Flames start to form on Arthur's body

"Forget this, I can't focus right now. I better go check on mom"

Arthur opens his room door and sees his mother sitting down reading a book

"How are you feeling mom? Any better i hope"

"Oh sweet heart there you are, I was wondering where you went. Yes i feel a little- (Cough, cough, cough)"

"You sure? Do you need some water?"

"Im fine baby, i just need to some more rest"

"I can see your body heat your running a fever, you need to be laying down and not reading"

"Haha Out of everything I taught you, I only regret teaching that. But I'm fine baby, just laying down is boring, I need to read a good book."

"I guess that's fine, for now"

"Good now for today's training you're going to continue your meditation. But this time you're going to learn to deepen your connection to your magic. Making it stronger. Its kinda like refining it"

"Okay i guess i could try it"

"Good now hurry before we run out of sunlight"

Arthur begins to meditate and hours start to pass, soon the sun sets and Arthur opens his eyes to see it snowed.

"It's so cold, i need my jacket"

As Arthur walks in the house he sees his father. He has his head laying on Arthur's room door with both hands placed against it. Almost like didnt want to leave what's inside.

"What are you doing to my door?"

"Huh? Nothing kid get the fuck out of my way"

His father pushes him out of the way as he leaves the house. Arthur looks back at him ready to say something but a feeling of terror washes over him. He looks at his door, panicking and runs and slams the door open. His mother is sitting with her back against the wall grabbing her chest, struggling to breathe, He rushes to her.

"MOM ARE YOU OKAY? DID DAD DO THIS!"

She says nothing but her eyes read yes.

"I'M GONNA KILL THAT BASTARD!"

He stands up but his mother pulls him back down

"H-hos-pital"

Arthur looks at the door in anger wanting to fight his father but gives in to his mother's request. He picks her up

"Don't worry, were be there soon"

He carries his mother in his arms from the from the house and start running for the nearest town

"The closest town is a mile away, i need to hurry"

The hospital door slams open as an exhausted Arthur rushes in. The nurses take her and place her in a bed and rush her down the halls as Arthur slowly follows behind before he collapses.

He wakes up in a chair with an IV pumping water into his system. He stands up and sees his mother asleep in a bed. She has so many wires and things connected to her it scares him.

"So you're awake now?"

Arthur turns around to see a man in a white jacket standing by the door

"Who are you?"

"My name is Dr. stevenson. I'm the one who put that thing in your arm and whos taking care of your mother"

"Is She going to be okay?"

Arthur says as he grabs his mothers hand

Dr. stevenson walks up and places his hand on Arthur shoulder

'Do you have a father I can call or some family?'

"N-no, she's all I got, all I have left."

"Kid your gonna want to sit down"

Arthurs chest start to tighten but he refuses to let go of his mother hand

"Y-your mother she has a mass in her chest. It's right on top of her heart, We don't know what it is but it's going to ki-. We believe she wont see tomorrow"

Arthur doesn't say a word he just grabs his mothers hand tighter

"I'm going to give you some time to say goodbye and we'll figure out what to do after that okay?"

Still no words from Arthur. The dr leaves, closing the door behind him. Once alone the tiers start to fall from Arthur's face but his mother wipes the tiers away.

"Don't cry baby it's alright, all the pain is gone."

Arthur jumps up to hug his mother

"Mom the dr said that you won't"

"I know baby, I know. How about you help me unplug all of these things? They are starting it hurt me"

As soon as everything was unplugged she slowly got on her feet

"Here give mommy your hand, i want to show you something"

Arthur grabs her hand had and follows her as she leads him to the roof of the hospital

"Grab on tight okay?"

She starts to fly away from the hospital and she lands in a small patch in a forest of sakura trees. She guides Arthur to the stump of an old cut down tree.

"I used to come here all the time, this is my favorite spot, it also has an amazing view."

Arthur is still fighting his tiers as he try to respond

"I-its s-so n-nice here"

"Oh don't cry baby, I'm fine."

She looks at Arthur and puts her arm around him, pulling him close.

"I need you to be strong Arthur, Be strong for me. This world won't let you be weak or vulnerable. I need you to do this for me so when I am gone you'll be okay. Everything I taught you is to make sure you're safe when I'm gone. Life is going to be hard and unfair for you but that is the price we pay for us to be special. You're going to be just fine, I know it. Just do your best okay."

"O-okay, i promise i will"

"Oh look, it's my favorite view, the sun rises. I-i always loved t-the sunrise..."

She lays her head on Arthur's head as she takes her last breath. In the place she loved, with the view she loved, with her son she loved.
