The academy grounds buzzed with activity as teams began to form, each one vying to stand out in the rankings. The instructors had made it clear: the next phase of training would focus on teamwork, strategy, and adaptability. For Dante, this was both a challenge and an opportunity.
With Ista officially on his team and Ethan Grayson sticking around, Dante knew they needed one more member to complete their group.
"I heard the next set of challenges will involve mock battles," Ethan said, leaning against the courtyard railing. "We're going to need someone who can cover the gaps in our abilities."
Ista, who had been reviewing the academy's roster of potential recruits, nodded. "Agreed. We need someone with ranged skills—or maybe a healer. Our current setup is too focused on close combat."
Dante folded his arms, his mind turning over their options. The academy had no shortage of talent, but finding someone who could mesh with their dynamic wasn't going to be easy.
"What about Rynn?" Ethan suggested. "She's one of the top archers in our year."
Ista shook her head. "Rynn's good, but she's already joined another team. Besides, we need someone who can think on their feet, not just follow orders."
Dante's thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of a familiar figure: Alaric, one of the academy's ranking advisors. His silver-lined robe shimmered faintly, a blend of ancient design and modern tech.
"Dante Valen," Alaric said, his tone formal yet warm. "I've been watching your progress. Forming a team, I see?"
"Yes, sir," Dante replied, standing a little straighter.
Alaric smiled faintly. "Good. A strong team is essential for what's to come. I have a suggestion—Lira. She's been unassigned so far, but her skills in support magic and strategy could complement your group well."
"Lira?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. "I've heard of her. She's smart, but... isn't she a little reserved?"
Alaric's gaze sharpened. "Don't underestimate her. Strength comes in many forms, and sometimes the quietest voice can turn the tide of a battle."
With that, Alaric turned and walked away, leaving the group to consider his suggestion.
"I'll talk to her," Dante said.
Later that afternoon, Dante found Lira in the library. She was seated at a table, her attention focused on a glowing tablet that displayed intricate diagrams of spell formations.
"Lira," Dante began, drawing her attention.
She looked up, her violet eyes thoughtful. "Dante Valen. What brings you here?"
"I'm forming a team," he said. "We need someone with your skills—support magic and strategy. I think you'd be a great fit."
Lira studied him for a moment, her expression unreadable. "Why me? There are others more experienced."
"Because I've seen what you can do," Dante replied honestly. "You're not just skilled—you're adaptable. And I need people I can trust."
Her gaze softened slightly. "Trust, huh? That's rare around here."
"Will you join us?" he asked, extending his hand.
After a long pause, Lira nodded. "Alright. But don't expect me to go easy on any of you."
By evening, the team was assembled. Dante, Ista, Ethan, and now Lira stood together in the training hall, their energy palpable.
"We're ready," Dante said, his determination evident.
"Not quite," Lira interjected, a small smile on her lips. "If we're going to do this, we need a name. Something that defines us."
Ethan smirked. "How about Team Valen? You are the one bringing us together, after all."
Ista crossed her arms. "It works. Besides, it's simple enough to remember."
Dante hesitated, but when he saw the approval in their eyes, he nodded. "Alright. Team Valen it is."
As they began their training, Dante couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement. This was his team—his first real step toward building something that mattered.
And the challenges ahead? They would face them together.
