Kael and Aveline's footsteps echoed down the long, narrow hallway that led into the Dark Tower. The light of the Prism Aveline wielded produced cold, shiny metal walls, covered in intricate carvings that radiated an aura of ancient technology.
"This isn't just magic," Aveline murmured, touching the walls, which felt warm beneath her fingers. "This is… technology?"
Kael nodded. "I've heard stories of an ancient civilization that used technology like this. They called it 'Astral Technology.' But that civilization disappeared thousands of years ago."
Before they could argue further, the hallway before them suddenly changed. The floor beneath their feet began to glow, and a mechanical voice could be heard, speaking in a language they didn't understand.
"What is that?" Aveline asked, her eyes widening as a hologram of a woman emerged from the wall.
The woman appeared to be half human, half machine, with glowing blue eyes and a body covered in smooth metal. "Welcome to the Core Zone of the Tower. I am the Astral Guardian, an artificial intelligence system designed to protect this place."
Technological Test
The Astral Guardian told them that in order to continue their journey, they would have to complete a series of tests. The first test was to solve an energy puzzle: they had to rearrange the light panels on the wall to activate a path to the next floor.
Aveline tried to align the patterns of light, but her hands were shaking with nervousness.
"I can't do it, Kael. It's too complicated!" she said, disappointed.
Kael moved closer, placing his hand on top of hers. "We can do it together. Just focus on the pattern in the center. I'll enjoy it in peace."
The silence between them was filled with a strange tension. Aveline could feel her heart beating faster, not because of the puzzle, but because of Kael's close presence.
Finally, the last panel lit up, and the path before them opened.
"We did it," Kael said with a small smile.
Aveline glanced at him, realizing that the smile brought some comfort to the chaos. "Thank you," she said quietly.
Battle Against Cybernetic Guardians
As they advanced deeper, they were attacked by Cybernetic Guardians, mechanical creatures with human-like bodies, but with laser weapons and steel armor.
Kael immediately drew his sword, trying to fend off the creatures' rapid attacks. "Aveline, find cover!"
However, Aveline did not retreat. The Prisma in her hand glowed brightly, projecting an energy shield that protected them from the laser fire.
"I will not run anymore!" Aveline shouted, her eyes filled with determination.
With the Prisma shield, Kael was able to approach one of the Guardians and destroy it with a well-placed attack. Aveline, meanwhile, tried to use the Prisma to disrupt the creatures' systems, causing them to slow down and be easily destroyed.
The Hidden Secret
After defeating the Guardians, they found a control room with a large screen projecting a map of the tower. On the map, there was a location called the Void Nexus, where Erevos stored the greatest power of the Prisma.
However, there was something else that caught their attention: a holographic file about the civilization that created the Prisma. It turned out that the Prism was the core of an alternate-dimensional energy network, capable of connecting their world to another.
"If Erevos opens a portal with the Prism, it will be the end of our world," Kael said solemnly.
Aveline held the Prism tightly. "We won't let it."
A Moment Among Chaos
As they paused in the control room, Kael noticed Aveline sitting in the corner, her eyes fixed on the Prism.
"Are you okay?" Kael asked, coming over and sitting down next to her.
Aveline nodded, though her face showed exhaustion. "I just feel… this burden is too heavy. The Prism is too dangerous, but I have no choice but to protect it."
Kael looked at her gently. "You're not alone in this. I'm here to enjoy it, no matter what."
Aveline smiled faintly, her eyes starting to redden. "Kael… thank you. You've always been there for me."
Kael raised his hand, hesitantly touching Aveline's shoulder. "I promise I won't let anything hurt you, Aveline."
The moment was filled with intense silence, as if the world around them had disappeared in an instant. But before either of them could say anything further, an alarm suddenly sounded, signaling a new danger.
"They know we're here," Kael said as he stood up, serious again.
Aveline wiped away her tears and stood with Kael. "Let's go. We still have a lot to do."
