Chapter 5 - Elijah Woods II

'And your scent smells like winter ice cream, a seasoned flavour I find euphoric yet cursed.'

~Elijah

The scream sounded familiar as Val whispered one word, "No!"

Val briskly grabbed the boy, and together, they dashed out of the cave, which immediately collapsed right after their departure.

Being a psychic vampire, Val sensed that his spouse was in trouble. He quickly headed towards the source of the commotion, only to see her lying on the ground, almost unconscious, with her body covered in blood and her forehead covered in golden lines with a pattern of a flame.

With the little boy in his hands, he called out her name, "Amelia!"

...

"Eli! Snap out of it, it's time," echoed a voice, bringing him back to reality.

I gave the reflection in the mirror one last look before shifting to a female version. The usual look everyone knows. From afar, I could hear the loud noise of everything occurring outside, but being a vampire-wolf, I could block them all out and focus on what I wanted to listen to.

A couple of hushed footsteps caught my attention. They were familiar and the owner seemed as if he was hiding his trail. I admit his ability is quite extraordinary and he'd match my skills. Wearing my male version, I swiftly exited my room and headed for the gymnasium. My male version wasn't new so upon reaching the gymnasium, a few common faces glanced at me.

Replying with a nod, I followed the scent I sniffed a while ago and it led me to the pool situated at the furthest end of the huge gymnasium. The scent belonged to a vampire and I could tell because I'm a half one.

I couldn't quite see his face, but judging from his well-toned muscles, it was clear that he possessed the traits of a very strong vampire. Perhaps he seemed to have felt my gaze as he rose to the water surface where he met my gaze. I didn't back down and I stared back until he mindlinked me.

"What's your problem?" His voice came.

Chuckling a bit, I replied, "Nothing much, but I came to warn you to stay away from Carline."

Hearing her name, he frowned slightly, not knowing he was making one. A playful smirk made its way onto my lips; this was going to be a very interesting game. However, it quickly disappeared when the thought of Carline being endangered by this foreign creature crossed my mind.

"Hey Fang-boy, when I discover your intentions, I'll kill you," I muttered, something he heard.

Plastering back a playful smirk, I turned and left the gymnasium. Truthfully speaking, it was such a lame way to approach him but Carline is my boundary. Once outside, I caught a whiff of her scent and trust me it was the best.

"Eli, these forbidden feelings of yours will kill you one day," Eshaem, my wolf who always kept me in check, chimed in my mind.

Letting out a sigh, I lazily shifted into the female cover I always wore and cajoled, "Not like I don't know."

Carline's footsteps seemed to be heading my way, and I didn't want her to meet the dangerous guy, so I quickly trotted in her direction where we met just around the corner.

"Hi girl," I chirruped.

She didn't seem to have felt my presence as she bumped into me and exclaimed painfully, "Ouch!"

I quickly held her by the waist to stabilise her. The fragrance she always had invaded my nostrils so badly that I could feel my fangs start to itch for a bite.

"Eli! You can't! She's not yours," Eshaem growled, bringing me back to reality.

Being an inch taller than her, I took the advantage and sniffed her hair. Oh, how it smelled so nice that I missed those days. Realising that it was time to let her go, like the obsessed being I am, took a long sniff of the fragrance emanating from her as if my life depended on it.

Reluctantly breaking the embrace, I gently asked her in my raspy voice, "Are you okay?"

Carline raised her head and looked at me with her red eyes, a fine emerald ruby I could say. On a closer look, I saw black eye bags beneath her eyes. I raised my hand and gently caressed them as if doing so will heal them.

"What's wrong? You didn't sleep well?" worry marred on my face as I asked. She seemed so down, I wondered what happened to her. With that, I had to do something.

We silently moved down the big aisle of Frost Hall- that is the gymnasium. She followed my lead until we exited Frost Hall.

Carline broke the silence when she asked, "Where are we going?"

I smiled mischievously and said, "You'll see."

It wasn't long until we saw fog before us. Like in the past, she subconsciously held the edge of my sweater nervously. I chuckled lightly, finding her quite adorable.

Clasping her hand in mine, I assured her, "Don't get scared, I'm here."

I saw her eyes close in fear as we passed through the thick fog. On the other side lies tall pine trees clustered together forming a narrow pathway in the middle, like an entrance.

"You can now open them," I whispered in her ears, and she immediately opened them.

Her eyes comically widened in awe, "Wow!"

I knew of her love for nature so I was sure she'd cheer up. She then squealed with excitement, "Yay! How come I didn't know of this place?"

"You just had no brains to explore," I teased her, something that earned me a cute pout from her.

Carline lightly poked my shoulder while grumbling, "Hey, that's an insult."

I laughed heartily; no, once again, I felt alive because being with her in the same space has never been boring.

Unknown to them, far within the pine trees, a pair of red eyes watched the two girls beneath with hidden intentions, but one thing was for sure: something dangerous awaited ahead.
