Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Aren

Yesterday was brutal. I almost lost my shit along with the rest of the guys in school when I smelled that Ora had gone into heat. I have always had incredible control around pheromones, I am one of the top three shifters at the academy after all, but her pheromones were insanity inducing. The only way I managed to keep from pouncing on her was to hold my breath as much as possible. When she stepped towards me in her room, with her bed just a few feet away, I almost crumbled. I had to get out of there. I was in class with Jay when her heat scent penetrated the classroom and the guys in class started losing their minds. Jay had no idea what was going on, since his sister's heat doesn't affect him. I had to explain to him that it was Ora, and he jumped into action. I'm glad Koda and Professor Hastings were with her and were able to keep her safe.

I walk into the common room after my run, just in time to see another non-shifter girl leaving Ryland's room. I'm betting a lot of shenanigans happened last night after all the straight male shifters in the school got riled up by Ora's pheromones. Koda and Kaden high five Ryland when he leaves his room, shirtless with a satisfied grin on his face. Ryland then goes to get a high five from Max. Max highfives him but shifts uncomfortably. Kaden gives him crap about being a prude, although I suspect Max's discomfort has more to do with his ability to read minds than being a prude. I wonder what thoughts Ryland was having that made Max uncomfortable.

"Ryland, keep your dirty thoughts away from poor Max." I say to him.

"I just thought he would enjoy seeing my memories of last night." Ryland winks.

Before I can continue, there is a light knock at the door. I crack it open and see Ora is standing on the other side.

"What are you doing here?" I whisper. "You shouldn't be out of your suite, since it hasn't been 24 hours since the beginning of your heat."

"Relax, it's pretty much over. Besides it's not like it affects you."

"You still shouldn't be here." I sniff hesitantly and she's right, the intensity of her pheromones have reduced greatly. They are still abnormally high, but not nearly as intense as yesterday.

"Hey who's at the door?" Ryland asks.

"No one you need to concern yourself with." I tell him.

I hear Leon's voice snicker to the guys. "It's probably the girl he keeps sneaking out to see." I grimace and hope that Ora didn't over hear that. I look back at Ora, and judging by the expression on her face, she definitely heard it.

"I need to talk to you. It's important." She says pulling me into the halls.

I close the door behind me I let her lead me away from it. "Fine. What is it?"

"Last night Char and I were at the library…" She starts but I cut her off.

"You went to the library when you were in heat?"

"It was late and no one was there." She retorts. "That's not important."

"Like hell it's not. Staying in your suite for 24 hours isn't just for your protection. It's for the protection of everyone. Having a powerful female shifter in heat walking around the halls is so dangerous. You are lucky no one was seriously injured in the mayhem yesterday. Leaving your room not once but twice was really stupid. I spent most of the night healing the injuries from yesterday. Nurse Stone is exhausted because of you."

"I'm sorry! I didn't know I was going into heat. It's not my fault."

"I'm not saying it's your fault. I am telling you leaving your room so soon after the main part of your heat was a selfish risk." Ora looks down and to my horror I see a tear rolling down her cheek. "Hey don't cry. I'm not mad, I just need you to be more careful."

She sniffles. "You're right. I was being careless."

"Okay, so tell me why you took the risk to go to the library."

"Char and I were experimenting with her magic trying to see if it could translate the writing on my locket." She explains. "She thought that we might be able to find something in this huge book series in the rare collection in the library. Those books ended up not being helpful, but when we were there…" She leans in close to me and whispers in my ear. "We found a secret ancient library."

"You found what?" I shout.

"Shhhhh, keep your voice down." She looks around to make sure no one is in the hallway. "The secret library was full of books in the ancient language and one of the books has a common language translation throughout it."

My eyes widen. This book could allow us to learn how to translate the lost language of the moon goddess, and if there is a whole library of books written in the ancient language, then translating them could change everything we know about the history of our world.

"That's not all" Ora continues. "There was a statue of the moon goddess and she was depicted wearing the same locket as me. Do you have any idea why my mom left me a locket that was related to the moon goddess?" I want to tell Ora what I know about her mother, but I shake my head knowing that I cannot.

"I don't know." I lie and Ora pouts. I try to change the subject. "Will you show me the secret library?"

"Yeah we can go back tonight after my date with Kaden if you want." I forgot she had a date planned with Kaden tonight. Disappointment fills me that I will have to wait to see her.

"Do you think it's a good idea to be going out on a practice date today?" I ask.

"At noon, my 24 hours of heat will be over, so there is no danger of going out."

"That's true." I mumble.

Eudora

"So where are you taking me?" I ask as I follow Kaden towards a crowd waiting near an opening in a large fence.

"You'll see."

I can hear the sound of screaming and music coming from the other side of a large fence. Kaden surprises me by taking my hand and leading me forward until we come to a huge fake castle facade. I pause at the entrance gaping up at the huge sign that reads 'Wolf's Harbor Park'.

"Come on, let's go." Kaden snaps at me as he pulls out two tickets and hands them to the staff member at the gate. I would think he was angry with me, except I've known him long enough to know that's just how he is.

We walk past the castle facade and it feels like we have entered a different dimension. The amusement park is lit up with multi-colored lights and I can see rides running over the crowds and the trees. The smell of candy and popcorn penetrates my nostrils and I breath in deeply, almost tasting the food in the air. I laugh giddily and turn to grin at Kaden. Excitement fills every fiber of my being.

"No way! I've never been to an amusement park before!" I shout to Kaden over the noise.

"Wait, really?"

I blush. "I didn't leave my father's estate very often."

"Oh, yeah." He responds lamely. "So what do you want to do first?"

"You're the expert. What do you recommend?" I smile at him and I see the hardness of his face relax a little.

"I usually like to start with the biggest rides." He says.

"Let's do that then." Kaden takes my hand again and we walk to a long line for a large yellow roller coaster. I look up at the intense drop and corkscrews the screaming riders are undergoing. I gulp.

"Are you scared?" Kaden snickers.

"No! I'm just weary of this new experience."

"That's just a fancy way of saying you're scared."

"Oh Shut up!" I teasingly bump my shoulder into Kaden's, but as soon as I make contact he wraps his arm around me, holding me close to his chest.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"This is a date isn't it? And on dates, it's the guy's job to comfort his scared lady." Kaden doesn't look at me while he says this, and I think he's feeling shy.

"Only problem with that is I'm not scared." I tell him.

"Sure you aren't." He smirks down at me, any hint of shyness gone. Even through my denials, his warm arm around me does help calm me. As the line slowly moves forward, he continues to hold me. He breaks the silence by saying, "Koda and I used to love going to amusement parks as kids. Our parents would take us whenever they had a little bit of extra cash saved."

"What was it like growing up in the Tundra Kingdom?"

"It was cold." He laughs humorlessly. "Our pack was ecstatic when my mom gave birth to twin shifters. The birth rate, like it is in every shifter kingdom, has been really low, so twins were a big deal. Our mom forced Koda and I to wear matching outfits everyday to remind everyone we were special because we were twins."

"At least you had each other."

"Yeah honestly I love Koda, but I was so desperate to be seen as my own person. I finally put my foot down about the matching outfits when we were 12. Koda started dressing in bright colors, so I decided I would only wear black. I pierced my ear and started dying my hair black."

"You used to dye your hair?"

"Yeah, I dyed it for years, but we weren't allowed to in the military, so I had to stop. Besides, it was dangerous for a polar bear to be black on a stealth mission in the arctic."

"I didn't know hair dye would affect the color of your fur when you shift."

"Yeah it does. One time a girl in my pack dyed the tips of her hair red, so when she would shift into her owl form, the tips of her feathers were also red. She looked like she had been mauled." He howls his laughter. "Her mother almost had a heart attack the first time she saw! It was great."

"You had a female shifter in your pack?"

"Yes, she got even more attention from the pack than Kaden and me. She loved it." He rolls his eyes. "Unlike you, she thought she shit rainbows."

I snicker. "So, you dyed your hair and changed your clothes to set yourself apart from Koda. Is that why you have such a cranky attitude all the time? To further set yourself apart from your bubbly brother."

"Nope. My dark demeanor is all natural."

I realize we have reached the front of the line and I start to panic. I don't think I can do this. Kaden sees me hesitate and pushes me forward forcing me to line up at one of the roller coaster's carts. I look back at him and he sees the full panic in my eyes.

He stands behind me and wraps his arms around me. He leans down and whispers. "It's going to be okay. A big bad girl like you can face anything."

I clench my jaw and when the gate opens, I walk onto the ride, and take my seat. After we are strapped in, the ride starts slowly ascending the first, and largest drop.

"I think I might shit myself." I turn my head as much as the ride's harness will allow. "At least I shit rainbows, so it will be easy to clean up."

Kaden chuckles. The ride comes to the top of the hill, pauses for a second and then plummets to the ground. I scream. I feel my stomach in my throat. The ride twists through two loops and then slows down as it returns to the station. I am shocked by how quickly the ride was over.

"Holy shit! What a thrill. I want to do that again!" I tell Kaden after the ride has come to a complete stop. I stand up and Kaden pointedly looks at my ass.

"Are you checking out my butt?" I ask teasingly.

"No, I'm just making sure there aren't any rainbows staining your pants."

"Oh shut up!" I say and playfully slap his chest. "Can we do that again?"

"There are plenty of roller coasters at this park. We can ride all of them if you want."

"Yes!" After a few more rides, my stomach grumbles.

"I think it's time for food." Kaden says, hearing the loud sounds my stomach is making. Miraculously, he doesn't tease me about it.

"What food do they have here?" I ask him.

"A lot of stuff. What are you in the mood for?"

"Do you think they would have french fries?"

Kaden laughs. "Yeah, I think we'll be able to find that." We wander around until we spot a large picnic area with a food stand shaped like a giant box of french fries. Kaden orders me poutine, and he gets himself cajun fries. He grabs me a fork and we find an empty table to sit at. I dig into my food. It is so good! I look up to see Kaden just smiling at me, his eyes softer than I've ever seen them.

"What?" I ask, my mouth still stuffed with food.

"Aren't you supposed to be a proper lady? Your father is the High Alpha of the entire Forest Kingdom, isn't he?"

"Yes, but I don't have to be a lady around you. Do you want me to act properly?"

"Ha, no."

"Do you want to try some of this?" I stab my fork through a few fries and hold it out to him. To my surprise, instead of taking the fork from me, he leans forward and maintains eye contact while he eats the food off of my fork. Something about the action feels intimate, and I blush again.

"You know, with your brother and Aren, you are all fire, but alone, you act like a blushing school girl."

"Jeez thanks. We already know that I have about as much experience dating as a school girl does, so it would only make sense that I blush like one. You have a problem with that."

For the first time, Kaden looks vulnerable. "No, I like making you blush."

My body grants his wish, and I blush even more. Once all of our food has been eaten I ask, "So is it time for more rides?"

"I don't think it's a good idea to go on rides right after eating. Let's play some games. If you're nice to me, I may even win you a prize."

The thought of him winning me a prize excites me. It's like something straight out of a romance novel. We walk over to the games and Kaden picks out one to play where we have to throw baseballs to knock over cups. Kaden rolls up his sleeves, and pays the game runner, getting us both three balls to throw.

"What prize do you want?" I look at the prize rack. I spot a giant stuffed polar bear and grin. I point at it. "I want that."

"Stand back and watch a pro work." He says flashing me a sideways grin. He throws all three of his balls and only hits one cup. The staff member hands him an eraser as his prize.

They reset the cup and I take Kaden's place at the counter. I throw my first ball and knock down a cup, I throw my second ball and manage to get two this time. My third throw nails one more cup. Most of the cups are still standing, but I still feel like I did a good job for my first time.

"So if you're a pro, then that must make me the god of this game." I say to Kaden, as I am handed a small stress ball.

"I was just warming up." Kaden says and he pays for another round. His second attempt doesn't go much better. Neither does his third or fourth. As the game staff hands him another eraser, a big muscular guy steps up next to me.

"Why don't you let me try to win you a prize?" He asks and Kaden turns glaring at him.

"I've got it covered." He says.

"Doesn't look that way to me, little guy."

"Who are you calling little?" I put my hand on Kaden's shoulder trying to calm him. Kaden isn't short, but he isn't tall either.

"Let's just go and try a different game."

"No, this guy is trying to move in on my date." Kaden growls while glaring up at the much bigger guy.

"No one can move in on me unless I let them." I say to him in a soothing tone. He doesn't seem to relax so I lean in and kiss him on the cheek. This softens him. "I really want to try that game over there." I say into his ear pointing to a horse race game.

"Okay let's try that game." He says, giving the man one last glare then turning and heading to the new game with me. The game involves rolling a ball that is embedded into a table to get your horses to move. The faster you roll your ball, the faster the horse moves.

Kaden is even worse at this game than he was at the throwing game, but I break the daily track record and am rewarded with the giant polar bear plushie.

"Don't worry. I'll tell the guys that you won this." I say to Kaden. He just grunts at me. I think more games isn't a good idea so I grab Kaden's hand and lead him over to the ferris wheel.

"The ferris wheel, really?" He asks while looking up at it.

"Yeah in all of my books, the ferris wheel is an essential part of amusement park dates."

"The ferris wheel is for babies."

"Please." I look up at him and pout.

"Fine, but I better get five stars for this date."

"Deal!"

We board the ferris wheel and I am amazed at the view once we reach the top. "I think I can see the campus from here!" I grin looking out the window. "And over there is the ocean. Wow! Everyone looks so small. Come over here and look!"

Kaden rolls his eyes at me, but stands and walks over to me. The cart shakes and swings and I lose my balance. I tumble backwards and instead of hitting the floor, I land on Kaden. The cart rocks even more and we bounce around on the floor. Once we have come to a stop and the carts swinging has slowed down I pause, keeping my eyes closed and assessing the damage to my body. I don't feel any pain, but I am definitely sitting on Kaden. I am afraid to open my eyes.

"Kaden, Are you okay?" I feel something vibrate between my legs and I hear Kaden's muffled voice. I can't work out what he is saying, but the feeling between my legs makes my eyes fly open. I look down, and to my horror, I see that somehow in the chaos I ended up sitting directly on Kaden's face.I lean forward putting my hands on the floor on either side of his hips and lift my pulsing pussy off of his face.

"You could at least buy me dinner first." Kaden says. I realize that the new position has put my face close to a hard bulge in his pants. My mouth waters at the thought of unzipping his pants and letting his cock free. I need to get my head out of the gutter. "Can you move?" Kaden asks.

"Yes sorry!" I hurriedly try to stand up but I slip and my crotch comes down on his face again and my face falls right towards his bulge. I manage to turn my face so my cheek ends up pressed against his hard length.

"Mumeriously?" I hear Kaden's muffled voice say on my crotch and the vibration of his voice makes me shiver.

"What was that?" I feel his large hands underneath my ass cheeks and he lifts me up off of his face.

"I said seriously." He repeats then he grins. "I can smell that this turns you on. Are you into public sex or something?" Kaden teases me.

I shriek and clamber off of him putting some distance between our bodies. "You can't expect me to not get a little turned on when your face is between my legs." I hiss at him and he just smirks at me.

The ride comes to an end and so does our date. We head home. Just like after the rest of my dates the guys and Gia are waiting for me to return.

"So how was your date?" Leon asks in a sing-song voice.

I share a conspiratorial look with Kaden then announce. "Another 5-star date." I show off my stuffed polar bear and brag about how Kaden won it for me on his first try.

"So will you kiss and tell about this date?" Ryland asks, smirking at us.

"Oh there was no kissing, but we did make it to third base." I announce winking at Ryland. He smirks his approval. I look around at the rest of the guys and to my joy I see that Aren looks pissed at my words. Leon and Koda look at us with wide eyes and Max refuses to look at us at all. Aren stands up and walks over to me.

"Let's go to the library and study your magic, like we talked about earlier." Aren lies to cover up our real plan of investigating the lost library.

"Can I come, I want to do some more research about my abilities?" Gia asks.

"No." Aren glares at her and she doesn't argue back.
