Chapter 7 - It's Different Now

"I will be responsible for it, don't worry about that.". He then pulled out and got off me. He put his clothes on then picked me up and carried me to the bathroom.

Today my husband treated me like a princess, he bathed me, dried my hair, chose my clothes, and even carried me all the way to the dining room. While my husband was making breakfast Louis came down and entered the dining room, "Good morning, mom. Good morning father." he greeted us then sat down next to me. "Good morning darling" I greeted him back. "Good morning Louis." my husband greeted Louis putting breakfast down on the table, he then sat down and said "Let's pray.". After the prayer we all ate breakfast.

"Louis, your mother might be pregnant. She said that this morning."said my husband,"Will the baby be born on my 6th birthday?" Louis asked,

"I don't know about that." answered my husband. "Isn't your birthday party in 3 weeks Louis?" I asked, "a baby takes 9 months to be born." I added,

"9 months is a lot" Louis pouted, "I will be almost 7, by the time the baby is born."

"Wait, that means the baby's birthday will be 3 months before yours." my husband deducted. "So the baby will be born in March." exclaimed Louis.

"What a handsome and smart boy we have here." I smiled, Louis smiled and ate his crepes.

After breakfast we decided to go out for a walk, Louis grabbed his bike and ran out. I was with Louis waiting outside for my husband. "Hello." My husband picked up the call,

"I am very sorry for the inconvenience. I am very busy today that is why I asked my assistant to cancel all appointments." He walked out the door saying those words,

"I understand, I understand." he walked up to us then stopped. "A special guest?" He smiled at us and held my hand.

"Please deliver my apologies to Mr. Francis as I can not meet him today."

As we began our stroll down the road, the neighborhood enveloped us in a comforting silence, not even the hum of a bee to break the tranquility. The leaves danced gently on the trees in the breeze, while the sun painted the flowers along our path with warm hues, their fragrances wrapping around us like a soft embrace. Grateful for this moment together, I pulled out my camera to capture it all—Louis biking down the road, my husband smiling, the playful squirrels darting by, and the stunning sky overhead. "Thank you, have a great day," my husband said, ending the phone call before taking the camera from me. "Pose for the camera," he prompted, and I obliged as he snapped pictures of Louis and me. We wandered through the neighborhood, singing and playing together, letting the golden hues of sunset mark the end of our joyful adventure.

When we got back home my husband's mother was sitting in the living room waiting for us. "Nannin!" Louis ran to his grandmother happily, "Is that not our little angel?" she asked, sitting him on her lap.

"Nannin, why did you not give a notice of your arrival?" Louis asked, my husband sat down across his mother, while I stayed standing.

"Mom, May I know the reason for your visit?" My husband asked, "I have something to talk to you about." she replied.

"Louis, come here." I called Louis to my side, Louis jumped off his grandmother's lap and ran to me. I turned around and was about to leave the living room with Louis, when I was stopped by my husband's mother. "You are leaving without greeting me?" she asked, "Good evening to you mother." I said, "Good evening to you." she replied.

"May I take my leave now?" I asked, kindly. "Lucia!" She called for the maid. The maid ran into the living room. "Yes madam." She responded.

"Take the young master away." asked my husband's mother, the maid picked Louis up and sent him to his bedroom. "Inira, it seems that you do not welcome me here." She said,

"May I speak my mind?" I asked her. "Yes, of course." She agreed to my request.

"It seems to me that you ask for Louis to not be here for a reason. With all the respect I have for you, madam, I do not think that it is kind of you to come to someone else's house to set discord." I said,

"I never planned on setting discord into your house, and in addition this is my son's house." She replied,

"Your son is married." I said, "and I do not consider his wife." she replied.

"Mother, I think you are going too far." My husband said to his mother, "She is speaking her mind and I am doing the same." she replied,

"It seems to me that you clearly don't like me, and I appreciate your honesty. I care less about the past your family had, and I care most about the future of my family. You and I are both women and you were my age before. Put yourself in my shoes and tell me do you think your actions are pleasant to yourself?" I said,

"Young lady, watch your mouth." she shouted, "Please do not raise your voice at my house. I thought we were speaking our minds, why are you getting angry?" I asked,

"Ini, stop it now." said my husband. "I will take my leave now if you would excuse me." I turned my back from them and made my way to the staircase.

From his bedroom Louis heard the conversation that occurred between his mother and grandmother.

"Nannin doesn't not like mommy," he wrote in his notebook. "she wants my parents to divorce." he continued his text.

As he heard footsteps of someone walking closer to his bedroom, he put down his notebook and turned off the lights. Irina entered his bedroom at that moment.

"I know you are not sleeping." I said to Louis as I walked into his bedroom. "I wasn't trying to fake sleeping. I just didn't want you to worry about me." he sat up on his bed.

"You didn't want me to worry about you, then were you worried about mommy?" I asked, while giving him a gentle kiss on his forehead.

"Nannin, shouldn't come here if she doesn't like you." he said, I did agree with that, but I didn't want Louis to dislike his grandmother.

"She has to come see you." I tried to change his mind, "If she doesn't like you, I don't like her. I do not want to see her." he looked down at his fingers,

I held his hand saying "We are family and we will stay a family. You don't have to love her but please don't hate her." I didn't want to lie to Louis saying she loves me or anything, but I also didn't want Louis to hate his grandmother as she was also family.

"I will try." he hugged me. I put Louis to bed singing him a lullaby. When he fell asleep, I gave him a gentle kiss on his forehead and left his bedroom.

When I stepped into my dark bedroom, I quietly closed the door behind me. I didn't know how to feel about what just happened. Irem seemed to be asleep as his body was motionless, I stared at him for quite a bit to make sure he was sleeping. I entered the bathroom, preparing to wash away the evening, I felt pain through my lower abdomen, catching me off guard. I sank to the cold tile floor, as my legs weakened. My body felt a bit tense, but it was not the first time this happened to me. I was really used to the routine, as I am still trying to figure out the reason behind this uncomfortable feeling. Moments ticked by as I sat there, I eventually got better. I showered quickly, and ran out of the bathroom.
