Chereads / Back to April / Chapter 3 - 3. Caught

Chapter 3 - 3. Caught

Gabriel's heart nearly jumped out of his chest as he opened the door to his room. The apparition before him was far more terrifying than any ghost he had ever seen in movies.'Ah, I'm caught! Should I move again? Why can't I ever escape his surveillance?' Gab muttered under his breath.Mr. Ali's face appeared from behind the door as he opened it. Too bad; even though he had tried so hard to avoid the man, it seemed that Mr. Ali was much more agile than the spy Mr. Sean sent to track Gab. Really, Mr. Ali should get an award for that."So, this is where you live?" Mr. Ali looked around; not a single inch could escape his eagle eyes behind the glasses he wore."I'm not going to offer you to come inside, so get straight to the point. What does he want? Did he send you here to persuade me to come home? Don't expect it," Gab snapped.Mr. Ali smiled faintly when he heard Gab's words, then gave Gab a large brown envelope."These are the results of your father's examination," said Mr. Ali in a flat tone.Gab just smiled lopsidedly after reading the diagnosis written by their family's doctor. It looked very convincing, but unfortunately, Gab was not that stupid. His father was very meticulous about health matters; if he had the disease as written on the envelope, he would be much noisier than a hurricane."It was written very perfectly by a very professional doctor. Listen, if you want to persuade me, do something more reasonable than pretending to be sick, such as canceling the arranged marriage or giving me another company to manage. Don't do something silly like this; you guys are not actors in a drama or something, seriously!" Gab threw the envelope in the trash and frowned in annoyance.Mr. Ali is Mr. Sean's secretary. Gabriel comes from a wealthy family that is unfortunately crazy about money. It's strange; they already have everything, but his parents still want to get more wealth. They forced Gab to marry a mixed-race girl who inherited wealth from her late parents. Gab strongly rejected the matchmaking because he knew very well what his family's evil intentions were. Besides, who would want to marry someone they didn't even know? Not Gab, for sure."I won't force you, but think about it carefully. You ... who are used to getting everything you want just by pointing at it, have to work hard for a bite of rice now. Isn't that hard?" Mr. Ali looked at Gab with a gentle gaze. The old man who had accompanied his father for decades made him feel sorry for him. Mr. Ali must have experienced many hardships because of Mr. Sean's ambition."Rather than ruining other people's lives, I'd rather give up everything I have. I'll never change my mind, so don't waste your time," Gab said emphatically.Mr. Ali could understand Gab's words. Compared to his father, Mr. Ali understood him better. It could be said that Gab grew up under Mr. Ali's supervision."Don't be so rigid; think carefully. If you marry her, you can take over her company and be free from your father's interference. Isn't that quite profitable?" Mr. Ali approached Gab, trying to convince him.But no, messing with someone, especially a girl, wasn't Gabriel's style. He wouldn't want to do that."I'll look for a job, so don't worry about anything."Hearing Gab's words, Mr. Ali laughed so loudly. He then smiled mockingly and stared at Gab closely. Gab would not be offended by his attitude. He knew very well how much wealth had spoiled him all this time."You dropped out of college to travel around Europe with your friends a few years ago, remember that? So, you only have a high school diploma. What kind of job do you think you can get with that?"Gab knew there was nothing wrong with what Mr. Ali said. There were not many jobs offered to high school graduates except for the low-paying and very tiring jobs he had been used to since running away from home. But that's not a big problem; the proof is that he is still alive today."I just got a high-paying job offer. So, don't worry. Leave me, because I'm tired now. Tell my father that he will never see me come home before canceling that ridiculous arranged marriage!"Mr. Ali was silent, then he left the place. Gab saw him getting into a car parked not far from the boarding house. It seemed like ... He had no other choice. He had to leave this place because if he didn't, Mr. Ali would keep coming, and he might bring some people to drag him home.Reluctantly, Gab went into the room and tidied up his things, packed them quickly, and called April's number. Yeah, finally."Hello?" The girl's voice was heard as soon as the call connected."It's me," Gab said softly.Honestly, this was embarrassing for Gab; he had already rejected her firmly before. Now, he was the one who contacted her first."You were the one who saved me earlier?" The girl screamed in a shrill voice, making Gab's ears ring."Don't shout; your voice hurts my ears," Gab said quickly."Oh, sorry. So, do you agree to work with me?""How much salary are you offering?" Gab asked breathlessly. He desperately held back his embarrassment. But Gab was in dire need, so... there was nothing he could do."Of course, it's quite a lot; for the exact amount, my manager will discuss it with you. Meet me at the Magnolia building; my manager will pick you up tomorrow.""No, no need; I'll go there myself. I'll leave at 10 am." After saying that, Gab ended the call.If April's manager came, Mrs. Sella would be very excited, it would be a disaster. So it would be better for Gab to meet her himself.
